She opposed the death penaltyin Iran with high execution rates and has been a dedicated women's rights advocate since college.
She was arrested for the first time in 2011 for her efforts to assist incarcerated activists and their families.
She protested the regime's use of torture and sexual violence on political prisoners, particularly women, in Iranian prisons.
During the Iranian Hijab Movement, she expressed support from the prison for the demonstrators and organised solidarity actions among her fellow inmates.
