PM Flags off Kanpur Metro Rail

Why in News

  • On December 28, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the completed section of the Kanpur Metro Rail project in the metropolis of Kanpur and took a metro ride with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

Key Points

  • The Prime Minister, accompanied by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, traveled by the new Kanpur Metro train to inspect the 9 km long stretch from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel.
  • The metro rail project in Kanpur has a total length of 32 km and is being built at a cost of over Rs 11,000 crore.
  • During his visit to Kanpur, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Bina-Panki multi-product pipeline laid at a cost of over Rs 1,500 crore. The 356 km long project has a capacity of about 3.45 million metric tonnes per annum. The project, spanning from Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh to Panki in Kanpur Nagar, will help in transportation of petroleum products from Bina Refinery in the region.

Satellite Campus of IIT Indore Will Open in Ujjain

Why in News

  • The Higher Education Minister of Madhya Pradesh said that the satellite campus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore will be opened in Ujjain to establish it as a major learning center of technology and knowledge science in line with the ancient glorious knowledge tradition.

Key Points

  • Established on 100 acres of land, this campus will provide an international standard research center and higher education at par with standards. It will be the first educational institute of its kind in the country. This campus will also play an important role in promotion of employment and self-employment.
  • The Higher Education Minister said that this campus would be free for all administrative, academic decisions. The campus will also have hostels and accommodation for teachers. International level research facilities and courses will be conducted here. It is also proposed to open four national level learning centers and industrial research parks in the initial phase.
  • Industrial Research Park will play an important role in creating employment and self-employment in the Malwa region. It is also proposed to do research on the devices and equipment used in sports in sports science.
  • He said that this would be an important center for water resource management. Where research work on water resources will be done along with educational activities related to water. Courses based on water management will also be conducted. This will help the center to enhance water conservation technology and prepare water-related educational programs in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Keeping in view the importance of Ujjain in time calculation and astronomical science, this center is being established. Research and laboratory will also be established here along with courses in space technology, space engineering and astrophysics.
  • Focusing on the Indian knowledge tradition, this center will become the country's model in the national education policy, in which research will be done on topics like agriculture, knowledge tradition, holistic medicine, preserving ancient knowledge.

Training Booklet on 'Birsa Harit Gram Yojana' Released

  • On December 28, 2021, Dr. Manish Ranjan, Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Jharkhand released a training booklet based on the ambitious scheme 'Birsa Harit Gram Yojana' under MNREGA.

Key Points

  • Dr. Manish Ranjan said that this booklet would prove to be a milestone for the beneficiaries of 'Birsa Harit Gram Yojana' and Horticulture Sakhi/Mitra, Mahila Mate and MGNREGA workers. He said that the continuous expansion of the horticulture scheme under MGNREGA would not only help in strengthening the livelihood but would also help in making the state of Jharkhand more green and in the category of states with highest productivity of fruits.
  • On this occasion, MGNREGA Commissioner Rajeshwari B said that this training booklet on Birsa Harit Gram Yojana has been prepared by the Rural Development Department to fulfill the purpose of Birsa Harit Gram Yojana.
  • In this booklet, important guidelines have been mentioned from the selection of horticulture schemes to its care and identification of diseases of crops and its treatment.
  • He said that this training booklet would prove to be very useful for the training of beneficiaries of Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, Horticulture Sakhi/Mitra, Women Mates and MGNREGA workers.

Chief Minister Honored Farmers in Kisan Sammelan

  • On December 28, 2021, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel honored the farmers who did excellent work in the farmers' conference organized at village Godmarra in Dondilohara block of Balod district.

  • On this occasion, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also unveiled a life size statue of Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi at the venue.
  • He honored Dhansu Ram and Chandra Kumar of Dondilohara block for selling cow dung under Godhan Nyay Yojana.
  • In the conference, Godhan Mahila Self Help Group of Piparkharna Gauthan and Gayatri Mahila Self Help Group of Tatenga Gauthan were honored for manufacturing organic manure.
  • Under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, farmers Daman Lal and Heera Lal of Bhedi village, who took other crops in lieu of paddy, and Shyamlal and Sanjeev Chaudhary, farmers of Pinkapar, were honored.
  • On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced the construction of 3.50 km road up to Godmarra-Suregaon, beautification of Godmarra Pat, renaming Kharkhara reservoir after former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Rajiv Gandhi and renaming Kharkhara-Mohdi Pat project after Dau Pyarelal Belchandan.

Tableau of Chhattisgarh's Godhan Nyay Yojana Selected For Republic Day National Parade

Why in News

  • Recently, the High Level Expert Committee of the Union Defense Ministry has given its green signal to Chhattisgarh's Godhan Nyay Yojana for the Republic Day parade ceremony to be held at Rajpath.

Key Points

  • This committee included the country's leading craftsmen, painters, photographers, musicians, singers and expert members of other disciplines.
  • The tableau of Chhattisgarh, centered on the Godhan Nyay Yojana, will present options for solutions to many global concerns at once by synergizing the traditional knowledge and scientific approach to the use of rural resources.
  • In the tableau, water management systems being developed in the state, increasing productivity and a happy farmer will be shown in fresco style. In the same sequence, women of self-help groups preparing dung products and vermicompost from cow dung will also be displayed in the tableau.
  • In the foreground of the tableau, rural women will be shown collecting cow dung and taking them to the collection centers of Gauthans for sale. These women will be in traditional tribal costumes, wearing hand made clothes and ornaments.
  • Out of these, a woman will be shown preparing products from cow dung and taking them to the market for sale. Flower pots will be decorated around the women, symbolizing the cultivation of vegetables and flowers in the Gothans. Diyas made of cow dung will be decorated at the bottom. These diyas will show the self-reliance and self-confidence in the lives of rural women.
  • In the back part of the tableau, Gauthans will be shown to be developed as Rural Industrial Parks. It will show how women are developing their own entrepreneurship, running small industries in villages using new technologies and machines.
  • The central part will show how the goals of environmental protection, organic farming, nutrition, employment and income enhancement are being achieved by keeping the cow at the center of the rural economy.
  • Lastly, the rural woman painting will be displayed as a symbol of the development of the traditional crafts and arts of Chhattisgarh.

Inauguration of Mega Skill and Employment Fair

Why in News

  • On December 28, 2021, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat and Parliamentary Affairs, Urban Development Minister Banshidhar Bhagat jointly launched the Vridha Kaushal and Sewayojan Rozgar Mela in Haldwani. On this occasion, Chief Minister Dhami also distributed appointment letters to 42 youths and women.

Key Points

  • This fair has been organized by the Department of Skill Development and Employment.
  • At the fair, Chief Minister Dhami said that employment fairs are being organized continuously by the government in the districts of the entire state. These fairs are providing employment opportunities to the youth. Unemployed youth of the state can register for the employment fair sitting at home.
  • Chief Minister Dhami said that the main objective of the government is to increase self-employment along with employment. He said that 3700 homestays are registered in the state, under which 8000 youth and girls are getting self-employment.
  • He said that work is being done to fill up the departments where the posts are vacant. The government has made a provision to increase the amount up to Rs 25 lakh in the Veer Chandra Garhwali Yojana for self-employment as well as employment, and work is being done to increase subsidy in homestays.
  • He said that the government has increased the age limit for government jobs by one year and the applicant will not have to pay any fee for filling the application fee of the examination form in the state, as well as the preparation of IAS, PCS, MBBS, Public Service Commission. The children who pre-qualify for this purpose are being given 50 thousand rupees by the government for further preparations.
