Why In News?
Recently, a spokesperson of the Uttar Pradesh government said that the construction of new check dams and ponds is ensuring availability of drinking water for the animals along with the increase in agricultural yield in the area.
Key Point
- The Department of Minor Irrigation of the Ministry of Jal Shakti has completed the construction of 317 check dams and restoration of 218 ponds under the third phase of Bundelkhand package. Under the scheme, a target of construction of 328 check dams and 238 ponds has been set.
- It is worth mentioning that Bundelkhand is a drought-hit plateau region, which covers 7 districts of Uttar Pradesh and 8 districts of Madhya Pradesh.
- In view of the problem of water scarcity in Bundelkhand region, an agreement has been signed between the two States (Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh) regarding Ken-Betwa Link Project.
