  • On December 27, 2021, government think tank NITI Aayog released the fourth edition of its health index for 2019-20, ranking states on the basis of overall health performance. In this, Uttar Pradesh ranks last in terms of overall health performance among large states, while Kerala is at the top.

Key Points

  • The report was divided into three parts - large states, small states and union territories. Among the smaller states, Mizoram was the best performing state while Nagaland remained at the bottom.
  • According to the NITI Aayog report, Chandigarh tops the Union Territories, followed by Dadra and Nagar Haveli at number two and Delhi at number three.
  • Uttar Pradesh ranks last among 19 states in terms of overall health performance among large states with a score of 30.57, however, in terms of incremental performance by registering the highest incremental change from the base year (2018-19) to the reference year (2019-20) In Uttar Pradesh topped.

Country's First 'Indigenous Knowledge Study Center'

Why in News

  • For the operation of the country's first indigenous knowledge study center recently started at Dr. Hari Singh Gour Central University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, cooperation and guidance will be given by Chhattisgarh Traditional Vanaushadhi Trained Vaidya Sangh.

Key Points

  • This study center has been started with the aim of proving the scientific authenticity of traditional medical knowledge based medicine and conservation, promotion and development of rare forest medicines.
  • This will be the first such indigenous knowledge study center in India, where initiative will be taken to prove the scientific authenticity of the public health tradition of the whole of India. A separate department has been created for this in the university, which has been recognized by the UGC.
  • In this study center, students will be able to get help for research and scientific authenticity to the treatment method of traditional doctors. This work will prove to be helpful in the continuous livelihood development of the family of Vaidyas, on the other hand the common man will get the benefit of Vanaushadhi medical system in incurable diseases.
