G20 Culture Ministers' Meeting under the Chairmanship of India Concluded in Varanasi

Why in News?

On August 26, 2023, the G20 Culture Ministers' meeting under the chairmanship of India was held in Varanasi. The meeting was attended by G20 members and culture ministers & dignitaries from the invited countries along with representatives of international organizations.

Key Points:

  • Under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, the G20 Culture Working Group under the chairmanship of India is engaged in shaping concrete action-oriented outcomes for the four priority areas articulated by India's CWG.
  • This discussion is being pursued through sustained consultations through CWG meetings, bilateral sessions and a series of global thematic webinars. The Culture Ministers' Meeting (CMM) was the culmination of all the discussions, deliberations and initiatives of the previous meetings.
  • G20 Culture Ministers agreed to harness the transformative power of culture to address today's multidimensional development challenges, such as climate change, rising inequalities and the impact of digital transformation among others & the need to shape more inclusive societies which are based on full respect for the diversity and recognition of the equal dignity of all cultures.
  • The outcome document of the meeting of the Culture Ministers of India has been named as 'Kashi Sanskriti Marg'. It summarizes the commitments and consensus made by the G20 Culture Ministers on the priorities expressed by the G20 Culture Working Group under India's G20 Presidency.
  • The G20 MOC has unanimously adopted an outcome document titled Kashi Sanskriti Marg.
  • The report 'G20 Culture: Shaping the Global Narrative for Inclusive Growth' was launched by the G20 Culture Ministers during the G20 Culture Ministers' meeting. It includes insights and recommendations from the expert-driven global thematic webinars on the four priorities articulated by the Indian Presidency to be held during March-April 2023. This concise publication documents the proceedings of the Global Thematic Webinar organized under the G20 Presidency of India.
  • The Culture Ministers released a special edition postage stamp. This special stamp was launched to commemorate the Hallmark campaign 'Culture Unites All', an initiative of the Culture Working Group under India's G20 Presidency. During the Commonwealth Games, the campaign 'Culture unites all' stood as a testimony to India's unwavering faith in multilateralism for inclusive growth.
  • Thereafter, the Culture Ministers and delegates witnessed the G20 Orchestra- 'Sur Vasudha' organized by the Culture Working Group under the G20 Chairmanship of India. 'Sur Vasudha' or Treasure of Tunes celebrates the rich musical knowledge and heritage of G20 member countries & guest countries.
  • In the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' or 'One Earth, One Family, One Future', the concert featured music and musical instruments from G20 members & guest countries. This common platform for musicians aims to promote inclusion & diversity, to encourage the exchange of ideas and international collaboration through music.
  • The key outcomes of the Culture Ministers' meeting will be part of the ambitious and collective actions that G20 leaders will discuss during the G20 New Delhi Summit in September 2023.

Rajasthan Premier League Starts in Jodhpur

Why in News?

On August 27, 2023, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched the Rajasthan Premier League (RPL) organized by the Rajasthan Cricket Association at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur.

  • On this occasion, Governor Kalraj Mishra, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot unveiled the Rajasthan Premier League trophy.
  • Addressing the launch ceremony, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that Rajasthan Premier League is a historic step in the field of sports. Through RPL, talented cricketers from all over the state will get a suitable platform to showcase their talent.
  • The Chief Minister honored the brand ambassador of RPL and former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev by presenting him a momento.
  • Singer Ravindra Upadhyay sang the theme anthem of RPL along with the captains of all the six teams in the ground.

Rajasthan's Asha Rani Suman & Sheela Asopa Selected for National Teacher Award

Why in News?

According to the information given by the Information and Public Relations Department of Rajasthan on August 27, 2023, two teachers of the state, Asha Rani Suman and Sheela Asopa, have been selected for the National Teacher Award for the year 2023.

Key Points:

  • According to the information, Asha Rani Suman is a teacher of Government Higher Primary School Kharkhanda, (Rajgarh) Alwar and Sheela Asopa is a teacher of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shyam Sadan, Jodhpur.
  • Education Minister Dr. BD Kalla and Minister of State for Education Zahida Khan have congratulated both the teachers while expressing happiness on receiving the National Teachers Award. They said that this glorious achievement of Asha Rani Suman and Sheela Asopa is a matter of pride not only for the teaching community of Rajasthan and the education world, but also for the people of the entire state.
  • Both these teachers of the state will be awarded in a special function organized in New Delhi on Teacher's Day (September 5, 2023). They will be given a certificate of merit, an amount of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal under the National Award.

State Animal Welfare Board will be Named after Amrita Devi

Why in News?

On August 26, 2023, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, while addressing the 14th meeting of the State Animal Welfare Board, announced the renaming of the State Animal Welfare Board after Amrita Devi.

Key Points:

  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that commendable decisions are being taken in Rajasthan regarding forest and wildlife conservation. Due to the policies of the state government, today the number of tigers in the state has increased to more than 100.
  • He said that due to the efforts of the State Government, the rating of Ranthambore and Sariska Tiger Reserves has improved in the review report released by the National Tiger Conservation Authority in 2022. Of the total 29 conservation reserves in the state, 16 have been created during the tenure of the current government.
  • He said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi encouraged environmental protection in the country through the Wildlife Protection Act, Project Tiger etc. Kailash Sankhla of Jodhpur was appointed as the first Project Director in Project Tiger.
  • Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi made innovations in this direction like the Environmental Protection Act, Ganga Action Plan and Wasteland Development Board. The previous central government brought the National Green Tribunal Act. In this sequence, the state government is also working to preserve the forests and wildlife of the state.
  • He said that out of 6 tiger reserves in the state, 3 were created during the tenure of the present government. More than 10-thousand-hectare grassland is being developed in the state. 741 families have been rehabilitated from various tiger reserves, which has reduced man-wild conflict.
  • Under 'Project Godavan', the second generation of children hatched from the eggs of Godavan have also been born through artificial hatching in the Incubation Center.
  • Announcing the renaming of the State Animal Welfare Board after Amrita Devi, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that Amrita Devi's sacrifice inspires everyone to protect the environment.
  • It was informed in the meeting that decisions like arrangement of drinking water supply in the forests by installing solar pumps, construction of corridors for wildlife, formation of 18 new protected areas, establishment of special tiger protection force have been taken. The protected areas have increased from 11243 sq km (about the area of Connecticut) to 13595 sq km as compared to 2018.
  • It was informed in the meeting that approvals have been obtained from the National Tiger Conservation Authority for the expansion of the core and buffer areas of Mukundara, Sariska and Ranthambore tiger reserves. Along with this, in-principal approval has been received for the Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve.
  • Shikhar Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest and Environment Department, said that 53 wetlands have been notified by the state government in the last few months. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Hoff) Munesh Kumar Garg said that there has been an unprecedented increase in the budget allocated to the Forest Department, due to which work is being done in new areas like grassland, wetland etc.
  • Chief Animal Warden Arindam Tomar said that translocation of different species is being done after feasibility analysis in different sanctuaries of the state. Their population growth is being monitored by experienced veterinarians. The state is a leader in the country in conservation-breeding of wolves.

MICE Center to be Built in Jodhpur

Why in News?

According to the information given by the Information and Public Relations Department of Rajasthan on August 26, 2023, MICE center will also be constructed in Jodhpur district, famous for hosting national & international events.

Key Points:

  • MICE (Meeting Incentive Conference and Exhibition) centers will play an important role in promoting art and business tourism in the state.
  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has given financial sanction of Rs 25 crore for the construction of the center. This decision has been taken in the commitment to become Sirmour in the tourism sector. This will give impetus to MICE tourism.
  • At present, the MICE center will be constructed on 5,650 square meters out of the total 65,000 square meters of land allotted to the Women's Polytechnic College campus by the Jodhpur Development Authority. Exhibition Hall, Central Block (G+2) will be constructed here in the first phase.
  • This block will have various functions including registration and information center, administration block, VIP lounge, meeting space for trade and business center, parking area.

Seven Panoramas will be Built in the State

Why in News?

On August 26, 2023, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot gave financial approval of Rs 35 crore for making panoramas at 7 places in the state.

Key Points:

  • The state government is taking important decisions to take the glorious history of the state to the younger generation. Panoramas are being constructed in different districts. In this sequence, the Chief Minister has given financial approval of Rs 35 crore for making panorama at 7 places.
  • With the approval of the Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chauhan Panorama will be made in Ajmer, Indira Mahashakti Bharat Panorama in Pokaran of Jaisalmer, Maharaja Surajmal Panorama in Deeg of Bharatpur, Panorama of freedom fighters in Jaipur.The Chief Minister has given in-principle consent of Rs 23 crore for their work.
  • Along with this, a panorama of Bagdawat Sawai Bhoj in Bhilwara's Asind, Kaila Devi Panorama in Karauli, Veeramdev Kanhaddev Chauhan in Jalore will also be prepared. Financial approval of Rs 12 crore has been given by Chief Minister Gehlot. This amount will be spent from the tourism development fund through the tourism department.
  • Through these panoramas, the general public will get information about the unforgettable sacrifice, sacrifice, courage, self-respect and social concerns of their inspirations. These panoramas will prove to be a source of inspiration for future generations.

CM approved the Draft of 'Rajasthan Part Time Contractual Hiring Rules-2023'

Why in News?

On August 25, 2023, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot approved the draft of 'Rajasthan Part Time Contractual Hiring Rules-2023'. Under these rules, a retirement assistance package of Rs 2-3 lakh will be ensured for the honorarium workers.

Key Points:

  • It is worth mentioning that the state government is constantly taking important decisions to ensure social security of part-time honorarium workers in the state. In this sequence, the Chief Minister has approved this draft.
  • Retirement benefits will be given to the part time workers coming in the rules after completion of prescribed service period, in the event of termination of service, death or retirement after getting the consent of the Cabinet to the draft.
  • 2 lakh on completion of 10 years of service, 2.50 lakh on completion of 15 years of service, 2.75 lakh on completion of 20 years of service and 3 lakh on completion of 25 years of service by the personnel is proposed. Similarly, an amount of Rs 3 lakh is proposed to be given on the retirement of the personnel (irrespective of the time period).
  • It is worth mentioning that in the budget year 2023-24, the Rajasthan Part Time Contractual Hiring Rules-2023 has been made with a view to provide proper protection and financial support to honorarium workers working on part time basis, such as Anganwadi workers, helpers, cooks, farrash etc. was announced.

Rani Avanti Bai Welfare Board will be formed in Madhya Pradesh

On August 27, 2023, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while addressing the Mahasammelan of Lodhi-Lodha-Lodh Kshatriya Mahasabha near Atal Path in Mata Mandir area of Bhopal said that Rani Avanti Bai Welfare Board for the welfare of Lodhi-Lodha-Lodh society will be constituted.

  • Niranjan Prasad Singh (Babu) - Niranjan Babu, who was an example of suchita in politics, became MLA from Champaran assembly constituency for the first time in 1967 from Jansangh Party. At that time his age was 29 years. Became MLA from Barhi assembly constituency for the second time in 1972 from Congress party, then became MLA in 1980 and 1985.
  • Imtiaz Hussain - Imtiaz Ahmed is a big cricket coach not only in Dhanbad but also in Jharkhand. He was the manager of the Jharkhand cricket team for 12 years.   • Mohammad Khalid - For the last 20 years, unknown unclaimed dead bodies of all religions are cremated with different religious customs. Under this campaign, he distributes free saplings. So far he has distributed more than 50 lakh saplings. Jaiswal is building the world's first eco-friendly Dharma Gyan Mandir in his village at his own expense. So far, he has been honored with more than 50 awards in the country and abroad.
  • Aditya Ranjan - Aditya Ranjan, an officer of the year 2014 batch of Indian Administrative Service, is originally from Bokaro.   • Nishant Kumar- Nishant Kumar started the startup 'King Fisheries' in the year 2018 in Booty Mod, Ranchi. Presently aqua culture has become the first largest commercial aqua farm in Asia. On August 25, 2023, the National E-Governance Award-2023 was awarded to the 'Mor Raipur App' of 'Swarna' Raipur Smart City Ltd. by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India, for district-level excellent e-governance initiative.

Key Points:

  • The 'India Smart City Award-2022' organized for the cities of the Smart Cities Mission, operated under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, was also announced, in which the Oxy Reading Zone Library 'Nalanda Complex' prepared by Raipur Smart City Ltd. Received the Best Innovative Idea Award.
  • In the category of excellent work done from the social point of view of this competition, building renovation and infrastructure construction of B.P. Pujari Shala Bhavan Upgradation Program has got a place at the national level.
  • The system of 'Mor Raipur App' has been considered as an excellent innovation under the e-governance initiative. Under this App, the initiative towards hi-tech citizen services by creating a system of digital door number, payment of municipal taxes, service & redressal of grievances has been given the ‘National e-Governance Award’ by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India.
  • Apart from this, two important projects of Smart City Raipur have also been appreciated at the national level in the result of 'India Smart City Award-2022'.

Chief Election Commissioner Inaugurated the 'Voting Festival Exhibition, Symbol of Democracy'

Why in News?

On August 25, 2023, the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Rajeev Kumar, along with Election Commission commissioners Anoop Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal, inaugurated the 'Voting Festival Exhibition, Symbol of Democracy' by cutting the ribbon at the Budhapara Talab complex in the capital Raipur.

Key Points:

  • Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar visited various stalls in the exhibition. Stalls have been set up here by different districts of the state, especially those belonging to tribal-dominated areas. In these stalls, glimpses of voting held in the past years through photographs and campaigns conducted for voter awareness in different districts are also shown.
  • Stalls have been set up by districts like Bilaspur, Raipur, Bastar, Sukma, Janjgir-Champa, Balrampur, Kabirdham, Sarangarh, Balod in the exhibition.
  • Voter awareness campaign along with photo exhibition has been displayed in the stalls put up by Raipur, Bilaspur, Kabirdham, Sarangarh and Balod.
  • Bilaspur has illustrated slogans like 100% polling, Bilaspur's campaign, the basis of democracy, no vote should be wasted.
  • Similarly, in Sarangarh district, a rakhi with the slogan 'Mor Bhaiya Vote Devaiya' is attracting people while Balod has also showcased the election campaigns being run in the district with 'E Dari Manabo Raksha Sang Matdaan Ke Bandhan'.
  • In the stall of the photo exhibition here, a picture of the elections held in 1967 in Orchha, a remote area of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, is displayed, in which an elderly woman is seen exercising her right to vote and putting the ballot slip on the ballot box.
  • While in the stall of tribal dialect exhibition, there is a pictorial display of election slogans in dialects like Gondi, Sadri, Birhor, Baiga, Kamari, voter songs in local Halbi dialect are also displayed here.
  • Various stalls in the exhibition prominently displayed the election campaign carried out in different districts. Similarly, a stall focusing on the grand event of newly married bride felicitation ceremony has also been put up in the exhibition. In this campaign, under the Second Special Brief Revision Program 2023 of Voter List, 1771 newly married brides were felicitated in 1281 Anganwadis of all child development projects of the district on a single day in Janjgir-Champa district.
  • The election campaigns 'Matveer' and 'Sankalp Vriksha' run here have been prominently displayed in the stall put up by District Balrampur, the aim of which is to increase the voting interest of all categories of voters like youth, women, disabled, senior citizens etc. and to make them understand the importance of voting.
  • Satrangi Raigarh, a stall put up by Raigarh District, focuses on development from heritage, in which the works of voter awareness have been displayed through programs such as resolution of the election campaign heritage, growing hand with oath, respect for the elderly, Shubh Kadam Swagatam, Kartavya pe Badhe Chalen. It has glimpses from the Birhor tribe to the industries of Raigarh.
  • In the stall put up by Sukma district have displayed election campaigns under the SVEEP, a voter awareness campaign in the most naxal-affected areas, voter awareness campaign, voter awareness programme, voter oath programme, voter awareness and EVM chariot demonstration, debates, painting & slogan writing competition, human chain, newly married felicitation program, voter awareness rally, rangoli painting.

Chamoli District got the Skoch Award at the National Level

Why in News?

On August 26, 2023, under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, Chamoli district was awarded the Skoch Award for various activities of livelihood promotion by the Skoch Group India at the 94th Skoch Summit Constitution Club India in New Delhi.

Key Points:

  • Under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, Chamoli district has received the Silver category in the Skoch Award for various activities of livelihood promotion.
  • Dr. Mahesh Kohli (then District Development Officer Chamoli) and Sanjay Purohit (Rural Finance Coordinator Upasak Chamoli Rural Development) received this award as the representative of Chamoli.
  • On behalf of the self-help group formed under the National Rural Livelihood Mission in Chamoli, the members are engaged in Lentana furniture manufacturing, fruit preservation, useful items made of Pirul, incense-agarbatti manufacturing, spinning-weaving training, dairy training, aromatic herb training, food preparation etc. are being trained. Under the Rural Livelihood Mission, loans are also being provided to the groups for business along with bank linkage.
  • Self-help group women have got self-employment through this type of training in Chamoli. Due to this, women are becoming self-reliant by becoming self-employed. These materials produced by the group are improving their economic condition at the local level.
