Madhya Pradesh First in Getting Recognition of Water Testing Laboratories
Why in News
- On August 27, 2021, Madhya Pradesh stood first among the states to get the accreditation certificate from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratory (NABL) for water testing laboratories.
Key Points
- State and district level 51 laboratories of the Public Health Engineering Department have been granted recognition certificates by the Accreditation Board (NABL). Madhya Pradesh is the first and Maharashtra is the second among the states that have received recognition for various water testing laboratories of the country.
- The quality of water being supplied to the common citizen is tested from time to time. For this, one state level and 55 district level (including upgraded Khurai, Mauganj, Sardarpur and Parasia) laboratories are run by the PHE department in the state. Apart from this, 100 subdivision level laboratories are also operating.
- To ensure the quality of drinking water, applications are made by various states for certification of their water testing laboratories with prescribed parameters and fees.
- Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of 51 laboratories in the accreditation certificates issued by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) to 182 water testing laboratories in 25 states so far.
