World Bank approves Rs 2460 crore to Improve the Quality of School Education

Why in News?

According to the information given by the Public Relations Department of Chhattisgarh on June 27, 2023, the World Bank has given about 2460 crores to Chhattisgarh to increase the quality of education with better infrastructure in the schools of Chhattisgarh, to encourage the education of science and commerce at the senior secondary level. Sanctioned an amount of Rs. About 40 lakh students coming from poor and weaker sections will be benefited from this project.

Key Points:

  • It is worth mentioning that on the initiative of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, along with strengthening school education in Chhattisgarh, Swami Atmanand English and Hindi medium schools are being started to provide quality education to the talented students of the poor class. Apart from this, many innovative initiatives are also being taken in the field of education.
  • Chhattisgarh Accelerated Learning for Knowledge Economy Operation (CHALK) project has been launched keeping in view the increasing demand for science and commerce at the senior secondary level, ensuring access to education at all levels. Through this project, better facilities for teaching and learning are also being made available in schools located in remote areas.
  • In this series, with the help of the World Bank, to encourage science and commerce education in secondary schools of the state, increase the number of science and mathematics teachers, as well as strengthen the necessary infrastructure in laboratories, students coming from remote places to study. A project has been prepared for arranging accommodation for students, increasing the enrollment rate of students in schools and providing quality education.
  • This World Bank project will help develop and operate about 600 model schools from class 1 to 12 and encourage science and commerce education at the secondary level.
  • Trained teachers, strong leadership and adequate infrastructure for learning management will be provided in the schools. The project will reduce learning loss during COVID-19.
  • The teachers' training through the project will improve the teachers' ability to teach in the classroom as well as enhance the student's ability to learn the subject matter. This project will increase employment opportunities for the youth in the fast-growing construction and service sectors in Chhattisgarh.
