Padma Awards to 14 Persons from Uttar Pradesh

Why in News

  • On January 25, 2022, on the eve of the 73rd Republic Day, the President announced 128 Padma Awards for the year 2022. 14 persons from Uttar Pradesh are included in the list of these awards.

Key Points

  • Padma award is the highest civilian honor of the country. It is provided in three categories. These three categories include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
  • 'Padma Vibhushan' for exceptional and distinguished service, 'Padma Bhushan' for distinguished service of high order and 'Padma Shri' for distinguished service in any field.
  • These awards are given in various disciplines/fields, viz., arts, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
  • These awards are announced by the President every year on the occasion of 'Republic Day' and usually in March/April, these awards are given in formal functions held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • This year the President has approved the conferment of 128 Padma Awards, including 2 Jodi Awards (the award given to a pair counts as one award). The list includes 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri awards.
  • Among the recipients of Padma awards, 34 are women and 10 persons in this list fall under Foreign/NRI/PIO/OCI category and 13 persons have been given the award posthumously.
  • The following persons from Uttar Pradesh are included in the list of Padma Awards announced for the year 2022-
    • Radheshyam Khemka (posthumously) and Kalyan Singh (posthumously) have been selected for the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honor in the fields of literature and education and public affairs, respectively.
    • Rashid Khan has been selected for 'Padma Bhushan' for his outstanding contribution in the field of arts and Vashisht Tripathi in the field of literature and education.
    • Similarly Ms. Kamalini Asthana and Ms. Nalini Asthana (Arts), Sheeshram (Arts), Seth Pal Singh (Agriculture), Ms. Vidya Vindu Singh (Literature and Education), Sivananda (Yoga), Ajay Kumar Sonkar (Science and Engineering), Ms. Ajita Srivastava (Arts), Dr Kamalakar Tripathi (Medicine) and Shivnath Mishra (Arts) have been selected for the Padma Shri award.

Gallantry Medal/Service Medal to 79 Policemen of Uttar Pradesh

Why in News

  • On the occasion of Republic Day on 26 January 2022, a total of 939 policemen of the country were awarded gallantry medals/seva medals, including 79 policemen from Uttar Pradesh.

  • Every year on the occasion of Republic Day, the gallantry award is awarded to the brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifice by displaying indomitable courage in the security of the country.
  • The Police Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs deals with matters relating to meritorious/distinguished service and President's Police Medal awards for gallantry etc.
  • The policemen of Uttar Pradesh who received gallantry medal for the year 2022 are-
    • The Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) was awarded to Prashant Kumar, ADG Law and Order, Uttar Pradesh.
    • President's Police Medal for distinguished service was given to five policemen of Uttar Pradesh - Vijay Prakash, Shripati Mishra, Sushil Pandey, Mishri Lal Shukla and Krishna Chandra Mishra.
    • Similarly, 73 policemen of the state were awarded Police Medals for meritorious service.

Madhya Pradesh State Asset Management Company Formed

Why in News

  • Madhya Pradesh State Asset Management Company (SPV) has been formed under Public Asset Management Department in pursuance of the decision taken by the State Government on January 27, 2022 in the meeting of the State Council of Ministers held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on January 18.

Key Points

  • The authorized share capital of Madhya Pradesh State Asset Management Company and the proposed SPV is proposed to be kept at `1000 crore and paid-up capital `10 crore. After formation of SPV, 100% contribution of share capital will be borne by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The administrative department of the Madhya Pradesh State Asset Management Company will be the Madhya Pradesh Public Asset Management Department. The Board of Directors of the company has also been constituted, which will be headed by the Chief Minister and the Vice President will be the Chief Secretary.
  • The members of the Board will be Principal Secretaries of Finance, Public Asset Management, Public Works, Revenue, Commercial Taxes and Urban Administration and Development Departments. Managing Director Madhya Pradesh State Asset Management Company has been made Member Secretary.
  • The State Government has also fixed the responsibilities of the Board of Directors. Along with this, by constituting an executive committee for the company, its responsibilities have also been fixed. The state government has fixed the arrangement of financing, official structure as well as annual expenditure for the company.
  • Madhya Pradesh State Asset Management Company SPV has been assigned the following obligations-
    • Formulation of policy and guidelines regarding proper management of public assets.
    • To ensure proper utilization of the assets of the state and public sector undertakings through inter-departmental consultation and coordination.
    • To evaluate various options for monetization and management of assets of government and public sector undertakings.
    • To create necessary skills and qualified human resources for management and monetization of unutilized assets.
    • To prepare the register of convertible assets of the state through information technology and geographic information systems.
    • Necessary development work to enhance the value of assets, leading to better management of assets.
    • To provide advisory services to government departments and undertakings for monetization and management of assets on service fee basis.
    • To use it for various purposes of public interest by obtaining loans from various financial institutions as per the requirement.

    • Arjun Singh Dhurve of Dindori took the folk art to the summit by keeping Baiga dance and culture flowing, while Ms. Durgabai Vyam of Mandla not only kept the painting of Gond folklore flowing, but also got it recognized at the international level.
    • Ramshay Pandey, a talented artist of Sagar district, has given recognition to the song-music culture of Bundelkhand, 'Rai Nritya' at the international level.

MoU between Tata Steel and Jharkhand Badminton Association

Why in News

  • Amidst the growing popularity of badminton sport in Jharkhand recently, with every household taking up badminton as a hobby or profession, Tata Steel and Jharkhand Badminton Association have jointly signed an MoU to promote badminton in the state.

Key Points

  • This MoU will pave the way for settlement of all pending litigation and settlement between Tata Steel and Jharkhand Badminton Association.
  • The Tata Steel Sports Division Badminton Development and Advisory Committee has been constituted to take this initiative forward. The committee will work to develop badminton as a sport at Tata Steel's Badminton Training Center and Mohan Ahuja Badminton Stadium.
  • This also includes providing best-in-class infrastructure for training and organizing district, state, national and international badminton tournaments.
  • It is to be known that badminton is the most played sport in the world after football. Its popularity in the city has increased manifold.
