Announcement of Chhattisgarh Master's Table Tennis Team

Why in News?

On April 23, 2023, Chhattisgarh Veteran Table Tennis Committee announced the state team to participate in the 29th National Master's Table Tennis Championship starting in Jalandhar.

Key points

  • The 29th National Master's Table Tennis Championship is being held in Jalandhar from April 24 to 30.
  • Chhattisgarh Olympic Association vice-president Sharad Shukla said that players have been selected in each category.
  • The players of the announced team are:
    • Age Group 40: Male- Nikhil Bani (Raipur), Female- Shikha Khande Hussain (Bilaspur)
    • Age Group 50 (A): Men: Rajesh Agarwal, Captain (Raipur), Sanjay Laheja (Bilaspur), Suresh Shadija (Raipur), Ritesh Malhotra (Raipur)
    • Age Group 50 (B): Male- Arvind Kumar Sharma, Captain (Raipur Metropolitan), Giriraj Bagri (Raipur), Vidhandeep Mishra (Raipur), Vinay Kejriwal (Raipur Metropolitan).
    • Age Group 60: Men: Pawan Shadija, Captain (Raipur), Shane Stephen (Raipur), Sushant Borwankar (Raipur), K. Ravi Shankar (Bilaspur), J.M. Rathore (Raipur Metropolitan).
    • Age Group 65: Men: Pradeep Janwade, Captain (Raipur), R.N. Kelkar (Durg), A.N. Rao (Bilaspur)
    • Age Group 65: Women- Gauri Dey, Captain (Bilaspur), Ira Pant (Raipur), Sarbari Moitra (Bilaspur).
  • The team is coached by Ravi Shankar (Bilaspur) and manager Arvind Kumar Sharma (Raipur Metropolitan). Ajit Banerjee (Raipur) and Jaya Sahu (Rajnandgaon) will be the umpires from the state.

Chhattisgarh got Award for its Remarkable work in PM Awas Yojana (Urban)

Why in News?

In a program organized in Delhi on 25 April 2023, Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, awarded Chhattisgarh for its remarkable work in the field of housing construction.

Key Points

  • On the occasion of the 53rd foundation day of Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO), New Delhi, the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) was honoured and rewarded for its innovative efforts & excellent contribution to the field of housing construction.
  • Saumil Ranjan Choubey, CEO, SUDA, received the award at the ceremony held in Delhi.
  • It is notable that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the work of providing housing for all in all the urban bodies of the state is being done in mission mode. At present, the Housing for All Mission is being implemented by the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) in all 170 urban bodies of all 33 districts of the state.
  • So far, more than 2 lakh 62 thousand houses have been approved under the scheme, of which 1 lakh 40 thousand houses have been completed so far and the remaining houses are being constructed.
  • In the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Housing Mission for all, an expenditure of about 42 hundred crores has been spent.
  • The central government rewarded these achievements of Chhattisgarh-
    • Distribution of rights certificates for the construction of houses and renewal of residential leases to the families living on populated land.
    • Group houses being built under the scheme were given an exemption by the government in RERA registration.
    • Renowned consultants and architects were appointed by the government for the supervision of the houses under construction.
    • In the 'Mor Makan-Mor Aas' scheme, an unprecedented decision was taken by the government to include the urban poor living on rent through group housing. Due to this, about 25 to 30 thousand houseless tenants of urban areas are being provided with houses.
    • Benefits to the families affected by Naxalite activities - The state provided pucca houses with all facilities to the beneficiaries of 80 families affected by Naxalite activities in Nagar Panchayat, Antagarh.
  • Awards received in the past under Housing for All (Urban)-
    • Municipal Corporation Rajnandgaon, Nagar Panchayat Antagarh and Nagar Panchayat Gandhi were awarded Best State for Convergence with Other Missions by the Government of India under the PMAY Awards 2019.
    • Under the PMAY Awards 2019 by the Government of India, Nagar Palika Parishad, Dongargarh was awarded the Best Performing Municipal Council category award.
    • In the HUDCO Award 2019-2020, Municipal Corporation Rajnandgaon was awarded the category of Housing, Urban Poverty and Infrastructure.
    • The State of Chhattisgarh has been awarded the award for Outstanding Performance in the category of Best Community Oriented Projects at the Indian Urban Housing Conclave (IUHC) 2022 by the Government of India at the PMAY Award, 2021.
    • In the Indian Urban Housing Conclave (IUHC), 2022 by the Government of India, in the PMAY Awards, 2021 Nagar Panchayat Patan got the third position in the category of Best Performing Nagar Panchayat all over India.
