On 25 April 2023, the 12th edition of The Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB 2023) concluded at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Center (JECC), Sitapur, Rajasthan.

Key Points:

  • The 3-day GITB was organized under the joint aegis of the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
  • Prestigious national and regional associations like the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Rajasthan (HRAR), Indian Heritage Hotels Association (IHHA) and Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators (RATO) participated in the event.
  • Around 283 leading Inbound Foreign Tour Operators (FTOs) from 56 countries participated as overseas buyers in this mega event.
  • Around 11,000 B2B meetings were held during these 2 days. State Tourism Boards of 9 states including Rajasthan participated in the Mart.
  • On this occasion, President of Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators (RATO) Mahendra Singh Rathore said that fame tours have also been organized for the upcoming buyers, in which a total of 60 tour operators will participate. These 3 itineraries are- Jaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Bikaner; Jaipur-Sariska-Ranthambore and Jaipur-Udaipur-Devgarh-Pushkar.
  • The state pavilions put up by some of the states of the country at the Great Indian Travel Bazaar showcased their tourism specialities, in which Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Tamil Nadu are some of the major states.
  • Here the state's safari, rural tourism, new hotels, heritage hotels & sites and fair festivals were promoted.
  • A detailed report on 'Inbound Tourism in India - Unlocking the Potential' was released in the 12th edition of GITB.
  • The report prepared by FICCI and Nangia Andersen LLP aims to draw attention to the current scenario of inbound tourism in India. The report discusses in detail everything from cruise tourism and adventure tourism to golf and polo tourism, as well as film tourism and rural tourism.
  • Highlighting the future of tourism in the country, the report also provides some key steps that can be taken to accelerate the growth of the Indian tourism industry. These include streamlining visa procedures, addressing security issues, promoting sustainable tourism, developing appropriate tourism offerings, promoting partnerships with the private sector, etc.
  • The report provides an overview of the current scenario of inbound tourism in India, initiatives being taken by the Center and various state governments to promote the sector, various unique tourism products launched by the Government of India, India's G-20 tourism priorities and the tourism sector. Vision 2047 sheds light on the relationship.

Madhya Pradesh Municipality (Business Licensing) Rules 2023 Postponed

Why in News?

On 25 April 2023, Madhya Pradesh's Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh said that as per the instructions of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the implementation of the Madhya Pradesh Municipality (Business Licensing) Rules-2023 has been postponed with immediate effect.

Key Points

  • It is known that on 21 April 2023, the Madhya Pradesh Municipality (Business Licensing) Rules-2023 were notified by the Urban Development and Housing Department to regulate business within the city limits of the state.
  • Before coming into force of these rules, the rules by fixing the fee for issuing trade licenses for trade regulation at the body level by the urban bodies, according to the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1956 or the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1961 have been implemented, will continue to be applicable as before.
  • It is worth mentioning that after the declaration of the new rules, attention was drawn to the discrepancies in the rules by the local public representatives of businessmen, business groups and bodies of different cities.

Panna's 2 Irrigation Projects got revised approval from the Cabinet

Why in News?

In the cabinet meeting chaired by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on 25 April 2023, revised approval was given to 2 irrigation projects of Panna district – Runjh Medium Irrigation Project and Majhgaon Medium Irrigation Project.

Key Points

  • The area under irrigation in Runjh Medium Irrigation Project is 14 thousand 450 hectares. Rs 513 crore 72 lakh has been approved for this project.
  • 47 villages of Ajaygarh tehsil will get the benefit of irrigation facility in 14 thousand 450 hectares from the Runjh Medium Irrigation project.
  • Similarly, the area under irrigation in Majhgaon Medium Irrigation Project is 1360 hectares. Rs 693 crore 64 lakh has been approved for this project.
  • 38 villages of Ajaygarh tehsil of Panna district will get the benefit of irrigation in 1360 hectares from Majhgaon Medium Irrigation Project.

Power Corporations of Haryana have achieved the Best Performance with an A+ grade

Why in News?

On 25 April 2023, Haryana's Electricity Minister Chaudhary Ranjit Singh said that due to the excellent policies of the state government, both the power distribution companies of the state have performed excellently by achieving A+ grades at the national level.

Key Points

  • The 'Bijli Chori Pakdo Abhiyan' and 'Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon' schemes have made a special contribution to this achievement, as they have increased the revenue of the power companies.
  • Notably, the Union Ministry of Power has recently released the 11th Integrated Annual Report of power distribution companies, in which both Haryana's power distribution companies (UHBVN and DHBVN) have shown unprecedented performance while improving the previous integrated annual report.
  • The current report covered 43 state discoms, 8 private discoms and 12 power departments from across India.
  • Chairman of Power Distribution Corporations P.K. Das informed that both UHBVN and DHBVN have been placed in the A+ group. DHBVN has improved its rating from 85.71 to 89.30 and is placed in the 9th position.
  • Also, UHBVN has improved its rating from 74.70 to 87.60 and is placed in the 10th position.
  • UHBVN has improved from the previous rating of 14th to 10th. Similarly, DHBVN has improved its previous rating from 12th position to 9th position.

Rain Gauge will be installed in All Panchayats of Jamtara

Why in News?

On 25 April 2023, the Agriculture Officer of Jamtara district of Jharkhand, Ranjit Kumar Mandal said that preparations have been started by the Agriculture Department to install automatic rain gauges in every panchayat of Jamtara district so that accurate weather information will be available.

Key Points

  • The Block Agriculture Officer has been made the nodal officer for marking land in panchayats for the installation of rain gauges. This device will be installed in 25 panchayats of Narayanpur.
  • Installation of automatic rain gauges in panchayats will help in getting advanced information about floods, cyclonic storms etc.
  • It is known that at present there is a rain gauge in the Narayanpur block office premises, with the help of which the rainfall in the block is measured.
  • According to the information, there is a proposal to install instruments in each panchayat on private land also, so that the instruments can be taken care of properly. With the installation of instruments at the panchayat level, accurate information about rainfall will be available.
  • It is to be noted that as of now the instrument has been installed at the block level itself due to which the exact rainfall in the panchayats is not known.
  • Farmers will get maximum benefit by installing automatic rain gauges. In the event of drought or less rainfall, the government found it difficult to get information about where the farmers were most affected. It used to take more time to get the assessment done by the agency and it could not be 100 percent correct. However, with the installation of rain gauges, accurate information about the panchayats affected by drought will be available and accordingly, compensation will be given to the farmers.

Gumla became the 1st district of Jharkhand to Beat Policing

Why in News?

On 25 April 2023, the Superintendent of Police of Gumla district of Jharkhand, Dr. Ehtesham Wakarib said that Gumla has become the first district of the state where work is being done under beat policing, under which 250 QR code best systems are being monitored in the area.

Key Points

  • It is known that in the initial period, it was used in the urban areas of the district. At present QR code has been installed in all the panchayat buildings of the district. Where the deputation police officer is monitoring by reaching the divided beat area three times a day in the urban area and twice a week in the rural areas, due to which the crime in the area is under control.
  • Superintendent of Police Dr. Ehtesham Wakarib said that Gumla Police has taken the initiative to connect the youth of Naxal-affected villages with the mainstream. Under this, 40 youths of Naxal-affected villages are being given the training to participate in the recruitment of the Para Military and Police. This training is going on in Police Line Chandali.
  • Apart from this, on the initiative of SP in Gumla district, witches are being attacked under Johar Cop in Gumla district. People are being made aware of witchcraft in every village.
  • Under the Johar Cop program, awareness campaigns related to road safety, child labour, witchcraft, drug abuse, child marriage, and cybercrime are being conducted in various police station areas.
  • Libraries will be constructed in Ghaghra, Sisai and Chaunpur police stations of Gumla district for which the SP has started the initiative.
  • Under the friendly neighbourhood police project, all the police stations of the district are being beautified, in which gardens, reception halls, seating arrangements and drinking water arrangements are being made for common people. Under this scheme, gardens have been constructed in Chainpur and Raidih police stations. Here the problems of the common people are heard.

Shyam Vishwakarma's Terracotta Paintings will enhance the Glory of Jharkhand High Court

Why in News?

According to the information received from the media on 25 April 2023, the famous artist Shyam Vishwakarma's terracotta paintings will soon increase the glory of the Jharkhand High Court. In light of the instructions received from the government, Shyam Vishwakarma is busy with full preparation for this.

  • It is known that more than a dozen large terracotta paintings of Shyam Vishwakarma are being installed in the under-construction High Court building in front of the new assembly in Ranchi. Along with these paintings, the statue of the goddess of law made by Shyam Vishwakarma will also beautify the High Court.
  • Apart from this, the Ranchi branch of the Reserve Bank of India is also being beautified with the painting of Shyam Vishwakarma. Here also about one and a half dozen terracotta paintings of Shyam Vishwakarma will be installed.
  • All the paintings to be installed in the High Court building will be related to tribal folk art Sohrai, Jadu Petiya, Jharkhand's tourist place etc.
  • Recently several terracotta paintings depicting Shyam Vishwakarma's resolution to success have been installed at Coal India Asansol, West Bengal.
  • In December 2022, about 150 paintings of Shyam Vishwakarma of Sahibganj were installed in various ministries of the Government of Jharkhand.
  • An attempt has been made to depict the art and culture of Jharkhand through all the paintings giving the message of prosperity & greenery of Jharkhand. The message of a prosperous Jharkhand has been given through the endangered folk art of Jharkhand, Jadu Petiya and Terracotta Painting.
  • Significantly, Shyam Vishwakarma of Sahibganj is a well-known name in the world of art and painting across the country. Paintings of Shyam Vishwakarma are decorated in many ministries of the Government of India. Shyam Vishwakarma has also given a different identity to the Jharkhand Bhavan located in the country's capital Delhi with his art.
  • Now Shyam Vishwakarma's work is not limited to Sahibganj or Jharkhand only. Apart from the country, his works & fame have reached countries like America, Canada and Denmark. About one and a half dozen paintings of Shyam Vishwakarma are increasing the glory of a museum established in New York, America.
  • It is worth mentioning that Shyam Vishwakarma made his mark in the country in the first year 2006 with the art exhibition organized at the Indian National Trade Fair held in Delhi. Here a dozen of his paintings on terracotta art were bought by the Government of India, and are still adorned in the Agriculture and other Ministries of the Government of India.
  • Jharkhand's tallest statue implemented in the Ranchi Project building has been prepared by Shyam Vishwakarma. He has also been awarded by the Government of Jharkhand for the upliftment of terracotta painting. Shyam Vishwakarma also represented the country in the International Workshop held in the year 2018.

Chhattisgarh got Award for its Remarkable work in PM Awas Yojana (Urban)

In a program organized in Delhi on 25 April 2023, Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, awarded Chhattisgarh for its remarkable work in the field of housing construction.

  • On the occasion of the 53rd foundation day of Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO), New Delhi, the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) was honoured and rewarded for its innovative efforts & excellent contribution to the field of housing construction.
  • Saumil Ranjan Choubey, CEO, SUDA, received the award at the ceremony held in Delhi.
  • It is notable that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the work of providing housing for all in all the urban bodies of the state is being done in mission mode. At present, the Housing for All Mission is being implemented by the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) in all 170 urban bodies of all 33 districts of the state.
  • So far, more than 2 lakh 62 thousand houses have been approved under the scheme, of which 1 lakh 40 thousand houses have been completed so far and the remaining houses are being constructed.
  • In the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Housing Mission for all, an expenditure of about 42 hundred crores has been spent.
  • The central government rewarded these achievements of Chhattisgarh-
    • Distribution of rights certificates for the construction of houses and renewal of residential leases to the families living on populated land.
    • Group houses being built under the scheme were given an exemption by the government in RERA registration.
    • Renowned consultants and architects were appointed by the government for the supervision of the houses under construction.
    • In the 'Mor Makan-Mor Aas' scheme, an unprecedented decision was taken by the government to include the urban poor living on rent through group housing. Due to this, about 25 to 30 thousand houseless tenants of urban areas are being provided with houses.
    • Benefits to the families affected by Naxalite activities - The state provided pucca houses with all facilities to the beneficiaries of 80 families affected by Naxalite activities in Nagar Panchayat, Antagarh.
  • Awards received in the past under Housing for All (Urban)-
    • Municipal Corporation Rajnandgaon, Nagar Panchayat Antagarh and Nagar Panchayat Gandhi were awarded Best State for Convergence with Other Missions by the Government of India under the PMAY Awards 2019.
    • Under the PMAY Awards 2019 by the Government of India, Nagar Palika Parishad, Dongargarh was awarded the Best Performing Municipal Council category award.
    • In the HUDCO Award 2019-2020, Municipal Corporation Rajnandgaon was awarded the category of Housing, Urban Poverty and Infrastructure.
    • The State of Chhattisgarh has been awarded the award for Outstanding Performance in the category of Best Community Oriented Projects at the Indian Urban Housing Conclave (IUHC) 2022 by the Government of India at the PMAY Award, 2021.

Ayushman Card will now get Free Treatment in Army and Paramilitary Hospitals

Why in News?

On 25 April 2023, Uttarakhand Health Authority Chairman D.K. Kotia said that the central government has listed 21 military and paramilitary hospitals operating in different districts of the state under the Ayushman scheme, under which Ayushman card-holders will now be given military and free treatment facilities will be available in Paramilitary Force hospitals.

  • It is known that till now the working soldiers, their dependents and ex-servicemen get treatment facilities in these hospitals.
  • The central government has included these hospitals in the scheme to provide free treatment facilities to the common people on the Ayushman card.

  • It is worth mentioning that 50.40 lakh cards have been made under the Ayushman Yojana in the state. There is a facility of free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh on the Ayushman card. So far 7.36 lakh patients have got treatment facilities. In this, the government has spent an amount of 1352 crores.

Inauguration of SDRF Headquarters and Training Center in Jolly Grant

Why in News?

On 24 April 2023, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the SDRF Headquarters and Training Center at Jolly Grant, Dehradun and made several other important announcements during this period.

Key Points

  • With the setting up of the SDRF headquarters, relief and rescue operations will be expedited during natural calamities and various accidents in the state. SDRFs of other states will also be given training here.
  • With the formation of SDRF, Char Dham Yatra and tourism activities have been secured. SDRF has so far carried out more than 3,000 rescues, 12,000 injured and 2,000 dead bodies. By giving training to 35 thousand trainees of various institutions, 2.5 lakh people have been made aware of disaster relief works.
  • State DGP Ashok Kumar said that the first phase of the SDRF headquarters being built in three phases has been completed. In the second phase, the training centre is under construction at a cost of Rs 36 crore.
  • Under the World Bank-funded project, the headquarters and training centre of SDRF has been built near the airport at Jolly Grant at a cost of Rs 144 crore.
  • The first phase has facilities for reception, office, training block and library, a three-storey training block, demo room, course coordinator, computer lab, lecture room, and library in the first phase.
  • There is an electronic charging station, garage and parking for more than a dozen vehicles. There is a canteen facility, fire fighting system, solar system, fencing, watch tower, and residential colony for the police and their families. There is also a petrol pump which will also be useful for the common people.
  • The Chief Minister made these announcements-
    • Risk Allowance: Gazetted officers of SDRF, who conduct rescue operations at a height of 11 thousand feet or more, will get a risk allowance of Rs 1500 and non-gazetted officers & jawans will get a risk allowance of Rs 1000. It will be payable on the lines of paramilitary forces. Presently 12 SDRF officers and jawans are deployed in Kedarnath Dham. Apart from this, from time to time, one has to go to higher Himalayan regions for rescue operations.
    • Sixth Company: Now there will be six companies in SDRF. The new company will be formed soon. One-third of the women employees will be appointed in this.
    • Deputation Period: The time period of deputation in SDRF will be increased from seven years to 10 years.

International Cricket Stadium to be built in Varanasi

According to the information received from the media on 25 April 2023, a 32-acre International Cricket Stadium will be built at Ganjari in Rajatalab Tehsil of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The process of its construction has started.

Water Taxi to be operated in Kashi on the lines of Water Metro in Kerala

Why in News?

On 25 April 2023, Sanjay Bandhopadhyay, Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, said that on the lines of the country's first water metro in Kerala, water taxis between Namo Ghat (Northernmost) to Assi Ghat (Southernmost) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, will be introduced in Indian inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and will be operated in collaboration with the Department of Tourism.

Key Points

  • This taxi will ply from one end to the other of all the 80 Ghats of Varanasi. 4 stations will be built for this in between. The Waterways Authority will provide floating jetties at all ghats. This will make it easier for people to get on and off taxis.
  • This water taxi will not only be used for transportation, but people will also be able to take a view of the beautiful Ghats of Banaras.
  • It is to be known that at present cruise and cargo operations are going on in Varanasi. It is used only by tourists. But the people of Varanasi will also be able to use the water taxi to get rid of the jam on the road.
  • It is worth mentioning that recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country's first water metro in Kerala.

Center approves 454 km 4 Lane in Bihar

Why in News?

According to the information received from the media on 25 April 2023, the Central Government has approved 4 new four-laning of 454 kilometers in Bihar. These four-lanes will pass through different areas.

Key Points

  • Bihar will have a new four-laning of 454 km from Valmiki Nagar adjacent to the Indo-Nepal border to Hariharganj on the Jharkhand border. The Center has approved the conversion of the 143-kilometer National Highway -98 from Naubatpur to Hariharganj in Patna into a four-lane.
  • It is known that at present the width of National Highway 98 is only 2 lanes. The pressure of vehicles on this highway is very high. This National Highway passes very close to the eastern end of the Son River and reaches Hariharganj via Bikram-Arwal-Aurangabad and Amba.
  • This is a very convenient way for those going to Garhwa-Daltenganj and Chhattisgarh in the western end of Jharkhand state, due to which the pressure of vehicles on this highway remains constant.
  • According to the information, the Central Government has now approved the preparation of DPR for constructing this National Highway 4 lane. Along with this, an amount of 1 crore 38 lakh has also been approved for this.
  • The construction of 195 kilometer-long four-lane highway from Patna to Bettiah at a cost of 5 thousand 6 hundred crores has started. This National Highway is the main part of the Buddha Circuit. There is also a saffron Buddhist stupa on the side of this highway.
  • Next to JP Setu, the tender for a 6-lane bridge between Patna's Digha-Sonpur to be built in three and a quarter years at a cost of 2 thousand 636 crores has been done. Apart from this, a tender of 868 crores has been floated for the construction of a bridge between Konhara Ghat in Saran to Jalalpur in Vaishali on the Gandak river in Sonpur Manikpur. The parts which are yet to be tendered include Manikpur to Sahebganj, Sahebganj to Areraj, and Areraj to Bettiah. The total cost of these three parts is going to be 2 thousand 159 crores.
  • With the construction of this new four-lane, the journey from Valmikinagar to Hariharganj will be reduced from 11 hours to just 6 hours. Apart from this, Nepal will be directly connected to Palamu, Chapatra in the western part of Jharkhand. This will greatly facilitate transportation. Inflation Relief Camps Started across the State

Why in News?

On April 24, 2023, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched inflation relief camps from Mahapura Gram Panchayat of Jaipur district. He distributed Chief Minister Guarantee Cards to the beneficiaries at the camp.

  • It is worth mentioning that on April 23, 2023, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had launched the registration portal and website of the Inflation Relief Camp at his residence and released the guidelines book of the Inflation Relief Camp.
  • Inflation relief camps have been started across the state to provide relief to the common man from inflation. By registering in these inflation relief camps, common people can directly benefit from 10 major public welfare schemes of the state government.
  • These inflation relief camps will be organized in all the districts of the state till June 30.
  • More and more people are being connected to these inflation relief camps under Chief Minister Gas Cylinder Scheme, Chief Minister Free Power Scheme (Domestic), Chief Minister Free Agricultural Power Scheme, Chief Minister Free Annapurna Food Packet Scheme, Chief Minister Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme, Social Security Pension Scheme, Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme, Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Accident Insurance Scheme and Chief Minister Kamdhenu Animal Insurance Scheme.
