Why in News

  • In the fourth phase of voting for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly that was held on February 23, 2022, a green booth was set up at AP Sen PG College, Lucknow.

Key Points

  • This green booth was made to give a message to the people about the environment.
  • The specialty of this booth is zero carbon emissions. Here the whole system was operated with alternative energy (solar energy).
  • To give voters a better feel of the festival of democracy, arrangements in this booth have been made with beautiful, handmade decorations, such as rangoli and pots for water.
  • It is worth mentioning that for the awareness of voting, Pink booths and Adarsh booths are also constructed.

  • On February 24, 2022, Bihar Governor Fagu Chauhan inaugurated the first state-level virtual postage stamp exhibition 'Bihar Digipax'.

Key Points

  • The exhibition is being organized by Bihar Postal Circle from February 24 to 27 with the theme 'Rich Cultural Heritage of India'.
  • The objective of this philately exhibition is to promote the hobby of philately as well as provide an opportunity to philatelists, especially budding and young philatelists and students to showcase their collections.
  • In order to encourage philately, the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications of the Central Government had started 'Deen Dayal Sparsh Yojana'.
  • This is a scholarship scheme for school children from all over India. Under this scheme, scholarships are given annually to those children of classes VI to IX, who have good academic results and who have chosen philately as an interest.

Industry Status to Tourism in State Budget 2022-23

Why in News

  • In the State Budget 2022-23 presented by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on February 23, 2022, it has been announced to give industry status to tourism in order to promote and provide support to the tourism sector.

Key Points

  • In the State Budget 2022-23, many announcements have been made to meet the needs of the people of the state and for the welfare of each and every section. Necessary provisions have also been made to implement all the announcements.
  • It is noteworthy that for the first time in the history of the country and the state, the Agriculture Budget has been presented by Chief Minister Gehlot.
  • State Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh said that taking a big decision in the interest of the officers and employees of the state, an old pension scheme as earlier has been announced for the employees appointed on and after January 1, 2004.
  • To give impetus to tourism related works, the amount of the Tourism Development Fund has been increased from Rs 500 crore to Rs 1000 crore. This will encourage tourism.
  • In order to promote adventure tourism, the 'Adventure Tourism Promotion Scheme' has been announced in the budget. Further in order to provide facilities to the tourists, a provision has been made to recruit 500 tourist friends for the help and safety of tourists including an integrated online booking portal and mobile app at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
  • To promote tourism in Dungarpur and Banswara region and nearby religious places, 'Vagad Tourist Circuit' will be developed, as well as a Vedic Gurukul will be built at Govind Guru Tribal University, Banswara at a cost of Rs 10 crore. 
  • The honorarium and other allowances given to folk artists will be increased by up to 25 percent. With this, along with improving the financial condition of the artists, they will also get financial support.

Country's First Government Women's Cricket Academy

Why in News

  • On February 24, 2022, Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia informed that the country's first government women's cricket academy will be opened in Shivpuri for the young daughters of the state.

Key Points

  • This will be the 11th academy of the state. Till now there are athletics, shooting, horse riding, water sports, martial arts, men's hockey, women's hockey, badminton, archery and men's cricket academies in Madhya Pradesh.
  • The talent search for Madhya Pradesh State Women's Cricket Academy will start from February 28. Players between the ages of 14 and 21 can participate in this talent search program. The first talent search for the academy will be held in Indore on February 28 and March 1. Players from all the districts of Indore and Ujjain divisions will be involved in this.
  • Talent search will be held on March 2 and 3 in Bhopal for the districts of Bhopal, Narmadapuram and Sagar divisions, on March 4 and 5 in Jabalpur for the districts of Jabalpur division and on March 7 and 8 in Shivpuri for the districts of Gwalior and Chambal divisions.
  • The facilities of education, accommodation, food, training kit are provided free of cost to the selected players in all the academies by the Sports Department.

Pilot Project of MBBS Course in Hindi

Why in News

  • On February 24, 2022, in the meeting of the Hindi Curriculum High Committee constituted in connection with the introduction of courses in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh, State Medical Education Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang said that the pilot project of MBBS studies in Hindi will be started from Gandhi Medical College.

Key Points

  • Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang informed that a systematic course is being prepared by duly constituting a Hindi cell. It includes experts from different fields.
  • In parallel, this arrangement is being made as an aid to the students studying in Hindi medium. Along with English, preparations are also being made to provide Hindi books.
  • As an innovation, the books of 3 subjects of the first year are being adapted keeping in mind the practical side. Tools and platforms are being provided to the students using Devanagari.
  • The Faculty of Medical College has also been instructed to take classes in Hindi while explaining to the students. Three war-rooms are being built for three subjects.
  • He said that Madhya Pradesh would be the first state in the country which started this innovation and Madhya Pradesh would be the leader in implementing it in future also.

  • Recently, eminent archaeologist Vasand Shinde said that the research done in Rakhigarhi, Hisar, Haryana has been included in the list of 'Nine Break Through Research' by 'International Conference of Genomic Journal' and in 'Top 10' by prestigious journal 'Science'.

Key Points

  • Rakhigarhi is the largest Harappan site in the Indian subcontinent. The site is situated in the plains of Saraswati river, about 27 km from the seasonal Ghaggar river.
  • To study its evolution from 6000 BC (Pre-Harappan phase) to 2500 BC, excavations were carried out at Rakhigarhi under the leadership of ASI archaeologist Amarendra Nath.
  • It is noteworthy that Prof. Shinde played an important role in the research related to Rakhigarhi. Prof. Shinde is also writing a book 'History of India' on these researches related to Indian history.
  • Pro. Shinde said-
    • The DNA report of the remains, evidence and skeletons found in the excavations at Rakhigarhi, Lothal Gilund, Nujat etc. has proved that the Harappan civilization was the oldest and most developed civilization in the world.
    • The theory of Aryan invasion and coming from outside is fabricated and false, which has been confirmed on the basis of archaeological and scientific verification of DNA.

  • On February 24, 2022, approval was given to relax Rule 245 and Rule 235 of the Finance Rules for the construction of Zonal Master Plan of Eco-sensitive Zone related to Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary on the basis of nomination from M/s XLRI, Jamshedpur.

Key Points

  • Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary (Shelter) located in Jamshedpur is famous for elephants. Apart from this, barking deer, sloth bear and various reptile species are notable among other fauna found here.
  • This wildlife sanctuary with an area of 193.22 sq km is located in the catchment area of the Subarnarekha river.
  • It consists mainly of dry mixed deciduous forests with some dry peninsular sals. The main tree species here include Terminalia, Jamun, Dhaura, Kendu, Karam etc.
  • Eco-sensitive areas are the areas within 10 km around protected areas, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries which are notified under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

Durg District Hospital Recognized for DNB Course

Why in News

  • Recently, Doctorate of National Board (DNB) has given recognition to DNB courses for ENT (Nose, Ear, Throat) and Pediatric (Pediatrics) to Durg district hospital of Chhattisgarh.

Key Points

  • With this, Durg District Hospital has become the first institute in Chhattisgarh to get recognition for DNB course.
  • After getting the recognition of DNB course, now every year in two seats of ENT and Pediatric, eligible doctors will be able to complete the course and get the certificate.
  • Permission for DNB course in Durg District Hospital has been given from January 2022 to December 2026. For this, the doctors of ENT and Pediatric departments working in the hospital have been appointed as faculty. DNB is a two year post graduate diploma course.

National Bravery Awards For Children

  • On February 24, 2022, the Child Welfare Council of India, New Delhi selected Aman Jyoti Zahire, a resident of Korba district of Chhattisgarh, for the National Child Bravery Award 2021.

  • This award is given every year by the Indian Council of Child Welfare along with a certificate and a cash amount to the children for their courageous deeds and bravery.
  • Keeping in view the COVID circumstances, the date for conferring this National Award will be announced later.
  • Aman Jyoti was recently awarded the State Bravery Award by the Chhattisgarh State Child Welfare Council for the courageous work done by him.
  • 15 years old Aman Jyoti, a resident of Korba, saved the life of a student who was older than him on Friendship Day on August 1, 2021.
