Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games Mascot Unveiled

Why In News?

  • On August 22, 2022, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot unveiled the mascot 'Sheru' of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games to be held in villages and hamlets in the indoor hall of Sawai Mansingh Stadium and also released the theme song.

Key Points

  • The Chief Minister said that a budget provision of Rs. 40 crore has been made for the Rural Olympic Games starting from August 29 in the state.
  • The main objective of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympics is to find and bring forward rural sportspersons, nurture their talent, encourage them and promote sportsmanship among the common man.
  • The Chief Minister said that rural Olympics are for all age groups. About 30 lakh players are participating in these games and 2 lakh teams have been formed.
  • On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the state government has increased the incentive amount given to the players who have won medals at the national and international level including Olympics, Commonwealth, Asiad. The gold medal winner is being given an increase of Rs 75 lakh to Rs 3 crore, the silver medal winner from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2 crore and the bronze medal winner from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
  • Apart from this, the prize money of Rs 30 lakh, Rs 20 lakh and Rs 10 lakh for winning gold, silver and bronze medals in Asian and Commonwealth Games has been increased to Rs 1 crore, Rs 60 lakh and Rs 30 lakh respectively.
  • He said that 229 sportspersons who excelled have been given government jobs under the out of turn policy by the state government. Apart from this, pension scheme has also been implemented for trainers. A provision of 2 percent reservation in government jobs has been made for the players and they are being given jobs up to DSP level.
  • The Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games are scheduled to be held from August 29 to September 1 at the gram panchayat level, September 12 to September 15 at the block level, September 22 to September 25 at the district level and October 2 to October 5 at the state level.
  • The games are being organised in coordination with sports department, rural development and panchayati raj department, education department, health department and local administration.
  • Kabaddi (Boys/Girls), Shooting Ball (Boys), Kho-Kho (Girls), Volleyball (Boys/Girls), Tennis ball Cricket (Boys/Girls) and Hockey 6 sports including (boys/girls category) will be included.

12th National Science Film Festival

Why In News?

  • On August 22, 2022, Science and Technology Minister Omprakash Sakhlecha presented Prof. Jagdish Chandra Basu inaugurated the 12th National Science Film Festival of India by lighting the lamp in the auditorium.

Key Points

  • It is noteworthy that 71 films will be screened in this film festival organized by Mapcast. The film festival will continue till August 26. Except for the inaugural session, the film will be screened at Ravindra Bhavan on other days.
  • Minister Om Prakash Sakhlecha, while inaugurating the festival, announced that in order to make India self-reliant and vishwaguru and to take science to the masses, science films will be screened as a festival in the divisional headquarters of Madhya Pradesh in the next one year.
  • The Vigyan Film Festival began with the screening of a documentary on the great Indian scientist P.C Ray. Produced by Vigyan Bharati and the Ministry of Culture, the film focused on Prafulla Chandra Ray, the father of modern chemistry, his extraordinary contribution to academia, employment, poverty alleviation and development of the chemical industry in India before independence.
  • The second documentary on oceans focuses on the dangers hovering over and saving the amazing biodiversity of the oceans.
  • Prizes worth around Rs 16 lakh will be distributed in various categories for various events to be held during the ceremony.

Hafed Launches Multigrain Flour, Biscuits and Namkeen

Why In News?

  • On August 22, 2022, Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) launched multigrain flour, biscuits and namkeen, expanding its range of consumer products.

Key Points

  • The products launched in the HAFED brand include multigrain flour, five different varieties of biscuits, i.e. cumin, coconut, flour-Jaggery-Saunf, naan-khatai and dry fruit biscuits. Other products include six different types of namkeen namely Punjabi Tadka, Gujarati-Mix, Khatta-Meetha, Bikaneri Bhunjia, Peanut Pakoda and Garlic Pakoda.
  • HAFED has tied up with Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited (HDDCF) for manufacture and packing of biscuits and namkeen products in HAFED brand through 'M/s Chandigarh Sweets' (major stake of which has been taken by Haldiram Delhi).
  • Similarly, HAFED has roped in an agency for manufacture and packing of multigrain flour in the HAFED brand. The main ingredients of multigrain flour include gram, ragi, barley, soybean, maize, jowar, oats, psyllium husk and shyama tulsi.
  • The unique combination of about ten ingredients of multigrain flour is very beneficial for health, digestion and increasing immunity in the human body. HAFED will promote sales of newly launched consumer products through its existing network of HAFED outlets, distributors and institutions.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Kailash Bhagat, Chairman, HAFED said that HAFED has taken initiatives to boost its sales and broaden its customer base in the current competitive market. This will further strengthen the Federation's overall presence in the market through its consumer products.

State's Largest Jain Kirti Stambh Inaugurated

  • On August 21, 2022, Shwetambar Jain Saint Lalitprabh and other Jain munigans inaugurated the state's largest 35 feet Jain Kirti Stambh at Kotwali Chowk in capital Raipur.

  • Red stones of Rajasthan have been used to make this Kirti Pillar built at Kotwali Chowk.
  • All the symbols of Jainism have been used in this Kirti Stambh. Four lions are also depicted around the column. Artisans from Gujarat have beautifully carved symbols of Jainism on stones.
  • The specialty of this Kirti Pillar is that iron has not been used anywhere in it. It is made by adding red stones from bottom to top. It will be safe for years even in thunderstorms, storms.
  • Earlier this pillar was only eight feet in height, which has been newly built by breaking during road widening.

Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana and Godhan Nyay Yojana

Why In News?

  • On August 20, 2022, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, on 'Sadbhavna Diwas', the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Rajiv Gandhi, gave the second installment of 'Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana' and 'Godhan Nyay Yojana' to more than 26 lakh farmers of the state. Earlier on May 21, 2022, Rs 1745 crore was paid to the farmers of the state as the first installment of this scheme.
  • 14 thousand 665 crore rupees have been paid to the farmers since the launch of 'Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana' including the amount paid in the second installment.
  • Under this scheme, Rs 5627 crore was paid as input subsidy in 4 installments to 18.43 lakh farmers in Kharif 2019. Similarly, input subsidy of Rs 5553 crore was given to 20.59 lakh farmers of Kharif year 2020. This amount of input subsidy is being given to farmers to reduce crop cost price, increase productivity, promote crop diversification.
  • Similarly, under 'Godhan Nyay Yojana', a total of Rs. Under this, Rs 2.64 crore was paid to cow dung vendors and Rs 2.60 crore to Gothan committees and self-help groups.
  • 158.24 crore has been paid to the villagers selling cow dung since the launch of Godhan Nyay Yojana. Similarly, Rs 154.02 crore has been paid to Gothan committees and self-help groups so far.
  • On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that as input subsidy under 'Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojna', Rs 9,000 per acre to paddy producing farmers, Rs 10,000 per acre to farmers taking fragrant paddy and other Kharif crops and for planting trees. 10 thousand rupees per acre will be given to the farmers for 3 years.
  • He said that by giving input subsidy along with loan waiver and support price to the farmers, the farmers have become self-reliant from the burden of debt and are moving towards improving the economic condition of their families. The farmers who use the most vermi compost will be honored on the occasion of Rajyotsava.
  • The Chief Minister said that there are few fertilizer factories in the country. Chhattisgarh has made a lot of progress in this matter, fertilizer factory has been started from village to village with the production of vermi compost in Gothans. The use of vermi compost is increasing the quality and fertility of the land. Agricultural products are getting rid of toxic elements. The state is moving towards organic farming. In the coming time, electricity will also be made in Gothans. Paint is also being made from cow dung.
  • Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said that the economy of Chhattisgarh has improved due to 'Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana' and 'Godhan Nyay Yojana'.
