U.P. Govt. implemented LADCS system
Why in News?
On June 22, 2023, the Uttar Pradesh government implemented the 'Legal Aid Defense Counseling System (LADCS)' for two years under the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority to provide free legal aid to the people of the state and settle small disputes on the basis of agreement.
Key Points:
- In the LADCS system, legal aid will be provided to the general public through the services of Chief, Deputy and Assistant Council.
- Legal aid can be provided to the general public on the lines of the public protection system in criminal cases.
- The objective of implementing LADCS is to strengthen court-based legal services to provide effective and efficient legal services to the backward and weaker sections of the society.
- It will provide qualitative and competent legal services in criminal cases to eligible persons.
- The victim will be able to take direct advantage of the illegal trade being done by a person. Members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes can take advantage of this.
- Eligibility to take advantage of LADCS-
- Women, daughters and children of the victims.
- People suffering from blindness, leprosy, deafness, mental weakness etc. and nomadic persons.
- Persons suffering from mass disaster, ethnic violence, class atrocities, floods, famine, earthquake or industrial disaster.
- Industrial workers.
- Juvenile delinquent means a child up to the age of 18 years.
- Person detained in custody.
- Mentally ill persons admitted in protection homes, mental hospitals or nursing homes.
- A person whose annual income is less than Rs.3,00,000.
