150 ITIs of Uttar Pradesh will be Upgraded

Why In News?

  • According to the information received from the media on February 21, 2023, the Uttar Pradesh government is going to upgrade the State Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of the state. 150 ITIs have been identified for upgrading.

Key points

  • This decision of the state government will benefit thousands of youths of the state and they will be able to get skills and employment according to the needs of the existing industry.
  • It is known that under the Department of Vocational Education and Skill Development, a total of 305 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are operating in the state, in which a total of 72 vocational training of different types are being conducted.
  • According to the demand of Industry 4.0 proposals, the need to modernize the state industrial training institutes has been told. According to the demand of the modern market, such innovative business/courses should be included in the training, so that the quality of training can prepare skilled manpower according to the local/national/global industrial demand. This proposal of Tata Technology Ltd. (TTL) has been approved by the government.
  • Apart from this, a MoA (Memorandum of Agreement) has also been done between Tata Technology Ltd. and the State Government (Vocational Education and Skill Development Department) in this regard.
  • Rajeev Yadav, deputy director of the Skill Development Mission, said that under this MoA, a provision has been made that 13 percent of the expenditure incurred in the ITIs which will be upgraded will be given by the state government, while 87 percent will be raised by private company TTL.

Five Historical Buildings of Nawabs to be built as Heritage Hotels in Lucknow

Why In News?

On February 21, 2023, Dr. Renu Dwivedi, director of the Uttar Pradesh Archaeological Department, said that the government has approved the proposal to convert five historical buildings of the city into heritage hotels to promote tourism in the capital of the state, Lucknow.

  • Director Dr. Renu Dwivedi said that after the proposal was approved, the Tourism Department has put them in the unprotected category and pasted a notice to develop a heritage hotel here. These buildings will be de-notified and the hurdles in the way of their heritage hotels will be removed.
  • It is believed that giving these buildings the look of a hotel will not only boost tourism but will also increase the income of the tourism department. In Rajasthan, it has been a great benefit to convert all the historical buildings into hotels. Tourists are increasingly attracted to them.
  • Director Dr. Renu Dwivedi told that at present preparations are on to convert Lucknow's Chattar Manzil, Roshan-Uddaula Kothi, Kothi Gulistan-e-Iram, Kothi Darshan Vilas and Farhad Bakhs into heritage hotels.
  • He said that if any person has any objection in the matter of unprotected these buildings, he can file an objection with the department and only those objections which will come within a month of the cancellation of this notification will be considered.
  • Dr. Renu Dwivedi said that this model of converting buildings into hotels in other states has helped a lot in saving heritage and made them self-reliant. This will also help in protecting these monuments from being dilapidated.
  • The conversion of these historic buildings for commercial use will go a long way in preserving them. The state ASI will ensure that the renovation and reconstruction of the building is carried out without affecting the heritage.
  • Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department Mukesh Meshram said that converting these buildings into heritage hotels on the lines of other states will help in their conservation. Also, it will help in increasing the number of tourists in the state capital.
  • Chhatar Manzil Building - This building was built by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan between 1798-1814 in the name of his mother Chhatar Kunwar. After this, this building was decorated during the reign of Emperor Ghaziuddin Haider from 1827-1837. The roof floor building is made up of Indo-Italian architecture. Gomti water used to hit the walls of its ground floor, which kept the building cool. This building was used for the residence of the Begums of Awadh. It is also believed that when the Nawab assumed the umbrella at the time of the ascension, he also installed an umbrella on this palace. In the freedom struggle of 1857, the chhatar manzil was used by revolutionaries.
  • Gulistan-e-Iram - It was built in the early 19th century by Nasiruddin Haider, the second Nawab of Awadh. It was Naseeruddin's personal library. In the British era, it became the farmhouse of the government. After the freedom struggle in 1857, the British ordered the demolition of Kaiser Bagh, as it was the stronghold of the Nawabs. Gulistan-e-Iram was also demolished under the same order.
  • Kothi Darshan Vilas - The building in which the Directorate of Health is now located was once a palace. Its construction started during the reign of Nawab Ghaziuddin Haider.
  • It was built by Roshan-ud-Daulah during the reign of Nawab Nasiruddin Haider (1827-1837) of Awadhi's Prime Minister. It was soon taken over by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. Its architecture shows signs of both British and Mughal art.
  • Farhat Baksh Kothi - The original name of this kothi was Martin Villa. It was built by Major General Claude Martin in 1781. It is a wonderful specimen of Indo-French architecture. It used to be their place of residence.

On-Demand Multi-Language Teaching Online Course Launched by School Education Minister

Why In News?

  • On February 21, 2023, Chhattisgarh School Education Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam launched an online course for online demand multi-language teaching for district and development block level officers on International Mother Language Day.

  • Apart from this, School Education Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam released reading material for teachers to impart multi-language teaching to children based on linguistic survey in the state. He also launched an on-demand capacity building programme for teachers to use podcasts to tell stories to children in their local language.
  • It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced to provide education to school children in their local language in the state, on the basis of which various works have been started on mother tongue teaching, its benefits are being given to the children of tribal areas in the state.
  • Chhattisgarh is the first state where linguistic survey work has also been completed in collaboration with Language and Learning Foundation (LLF) and UNICEF. In such a situation, now when the local language has to be used in the classes to teach the children, an online course has been started for the officers of the School Education Department.
  • Chhattisgarh is the first state to conduct a linguistic survey based on the language spoken by children. The reference material has been prepared by Samagra Shiksha to understand this report and to bring necessary improvements in teaching methods by informing teachers in schools on various issues related to multilingualism. This material will be made available to the teachers at primary schools.
  • At present, a discussion paper is published every month in the form of a podcast by a team of teachers in the state, which the teachers listen to with great interest and try to implement the things said in it in their respective classes.
  • In this series, some expert teachers, some local language expert teachers and some external organizations who want to cooperate in this work, together with various local stories, making podcasts on them, sharing print versions of some of the stories selected later will be done with this team.
  • A team of interested people for this work will be formed through social media. These podcasts can be used by teachers in schools using mobiles, speakers available in primary schools, etc. By listening to this podcast, children will be able to be proud to know their culture, history and traditions.

Tourism Police Structure will be Ready in Uttarakhand on the Lines of Goa-Kerala

'Chief Minister Utthan' and 'Gyankosh Yojana'

  • On February 20, 2023, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that students in the state will now get free coaching for many competitive exams including IAS-PCS. For the preparation of these exams, it has been announced to start 'Chief Minister Utthan' and 'Gyankosh Yojana'.

Key points

  • The Chief Minister said that under the Mukhyamantri Utthan Yojana, students in the state IPS will be given coaching for competitive examinations like IAS, PCS, NDA, CDS, Medical and Engineering. This will facilitate students who are unable to prepare for these examinations due to financial constraints.
  • He said that these students will be provided facilities like online study material, offline classes, examination related courses, question banks etc.
  • Establishment of a rich library in every district using departmental hostels, ashram method schools and departmental establishments under the 'Gyankosh Yojana', the libraries will be able to be used by youth, students, teachers and community members preparing for competitive exams.
  • A contact centre will be set up in libraries listing qualified experienced and professional lecturers, who will address the thematic problem related to competitive examinations and will be reviewed by the expert committee by the expert committee to list experts for the use of libraries, arrangement of books, infrastructure etc.
