17491 Cooperative Societies were abolished in Bihar
Why in News?
According to information received from the media on June 20, 2023, 17491 cooperative societies have been abolished in Bihar, leaving 25487 co-operative societies in the state.
Key Points:
- Apart from PACS, dairy and fisheries cooperation committees, there are now 8884 other types of committees left in the state. The state now has the highest number of 2217 housing societies.
- It is known that earlier there were a total of 42985 cooperative societies in the state. Many committees were not active for a long time. They didn't work through them. After the division of Jharkhand and Bihar, the legitimacy of many committees was lost. For this reason, these committees were closed.
- Industrial Cooperation Committee, Cold Storage, Gramodaya, Oil Producers, Palm, Jaggery Producers, Irrigation Cooperation Committee, Joint Cooperation Agriculture, Boat Transport, Charmakar Sahyog and Sarvodaya Sahyog Samiti have been abolished in the state.
- There are now only eight SC/ST cooperative societies in the state, one each in Lakhisarai-Muzaffarpur and three each in Nalanda and Patna. There is not a single women's welfare committee in Darbhanga and Siwan. Purnea has the highest number of women's welfare committees at 145. There is not a single jute committee in the state.
- Apart from these, there are no transport committees in any district of the state except East Champaran, Jamui, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Nalanda, Patna, Rohtas, Saharsa, Sitamarhi, Vaishali and West Champaran.
- There is no tourism committee anywhere in the state except Patna. There are five tourism committees in Patna.
