State- Level online Lottery drawn under Krishak Uphar Yojana

Why in News?

On 19 April 2023, under the chairmanship of Principal Government Secretary Agriculture and Horticulture Dinesh Kumar, the state-level online lottery was conducted by the Agriculture Marketing Department under the Krishak Uphaar Yojana at Krishi Pant Bhavan.

Key Points

  • Under the scheme, farmer Pradeep of Bhavani Mandi, Kota block got the first prize of Rs. 2 lakh 50 thousand, Jaswant of Goluwada Mandi, Hanumangarh block got the second prize of Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand & Mohanlal, a farmer of Hanumangarh market, got the third prize of Rs 1 lakh.
  • State level lottery is conducted once in a year, in which there are Chief Government Secretary Agriculture Department-Chairman, Administrator Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board-Member and Director Agriculture Marketing Department-Member Secretary.
  • The software of the National Informatics Center drew the state-level lottery for the year 2022.

New Gambling Act will be implemented in the state

Why in News?

On 19 April 2023, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told media representatives that the state government has decided to enact the 'Madhya Pradesh Gambling Act 2023' instead of the present Gambling Act.

Key Points

  • The Chief Minister said that online gambling is a big problem. Presently the Gambling Act, 1876 is applicable in the state. There is no provision against online gambling.
  • Adequate provisions will be included in the new Act against online gambling so that criminals indulging in these activities can be punished.
  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that a special cell will be set up under the chairmanship of an Additional Director General of Police level officer at the police headquarters for effective action against chit-fund companies and monitoring the work of returning money to the affected people.

Jyoti Surekha Vennam wins Gold Medal in Archery World Cup Step -1 Competition

Why in News?

According to the information received from the media on 19 April 2023 Archer Jyoti Surekha Venom of the Center of Excellence at Bahalgarh (Sonipat), North Zone Center of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), broke the Asian record and won the gold medal in the Archery World Cup Stage One-1 competition being held in Antalya city of Turkey.

Key Points

  • Jyoti Surekha Vennam has also equaled the world record set by Sara Lopez in 2015 during the Colombian National Selection event, breaking the Asian record in the Stage One-1 competition.
  • The Indian archer shot 353 out of 360 in the first round and 360 out of 360 in the second round (total 713 points) to set the Asian record.
  • Bahalgarh-based Sai's Executive Director Lalita Sharma said that the Archery World Cup Stage One-1 competition is being organized from 16 to 23 April in Antalya city of Turkey.
  • World Championship 2021 silver medalist Jyoti Surekha shot 66 out of 72 shots to score 10 points. With this, she equaled the world record score set by Sara López in 2015 during the Colombian national selection event.
  • Lalita Sharma said that Jyoti Surekha, a resident of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, has been practicing at the Excellence Center of Archery in Sai, Bahalgarh of Sonipat since the year 2019.
  • Significantly, Jyoti Surekha, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, is DC in Hyderabad. She is the first archer who was directly posted as DC by the government.

The Governor returned the Bill seeking to Increase Reservation

Why in News?

According to information received from the media on 19 April 2023, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan has returned the bill seeking to increase reservation for socially and educationally backward classes in the state.

Key Points

  • It is known that this bill proposes to increase the OBC quota from 14% to 27%, ST quota from 26% to 28% and SC quota from 10% to 12%.
  • In such a situation, if this bill is passed, the total reservation in government jobs will be 77 percent with the inclusion of 10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections in the state.
  • Giving information in this matter, the official of the Governor's office said that this bill has been returned on the basis of legal opinion from the Attorney General of India. He also said that the previous Governor of Jharkhand, Ramesh Bais, had sent this bill to the Attorney General, who has said that the Supreme Court's decisions on reservation have not been taken into account in the bill.

Chief Minister inaugurated C&D Plant at Hirapur Jarwai

Why in News?

On 19 April 2023, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the C&D plant at Hirapur Jarwai in Raipur during his Bhent-Mulaqat Programme.

Key Points

  • On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that due to increase in construction activities in the cities, C&D plant has been constructed for the proper management of construction and demolition waste, colloquially called debris, coming out of demolition and other processes.
  • Paver blocks, tiles, drain covers etc. will be manufactured by processing debris at this C&D plant.
  • Proper disposal of debris through C&D plants will reduce problems like air quality, blockage of drains and reduction in water storage capacity of ponds.

6 Engineering Colleges of Garhwal and Kumaon to be Technical University Campus

Why in News?

According to the information received from the media on 19 April 2023, under the Department of Technical Education, the cabinet approved the proposal to operate six engineering colleges and institutes of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions as campus colleges under Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun.

Key Points

  • According to the cabinet proposal, Technical Institute Gopeshwar, Women's Technical Institute Dehradun, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical Institute Tanakpur, Nanhi Pari Frontier Technical Institute Pithoragarh, THDC, IHET New Tehri and Bonn Engineering College, Uttarkashi will be made a campus college of Technical University under certain conditions on the basis of where it is.
  • It was said in the cabinet meeting that financial assistance from the state government will not be provided to all self-financed institutions after the campus is built. BOG will continue to function as before in all self-financed institutions.
  • It is known that Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun was established on 27 January 2005 by the Government of Uttarakhand through the Uttarakhand Technical University Act 2005. It is the only affiliated university in the state for technical institutions.
