Madhya Pradesh Got the First National Water Award for the Best State for Excellent Water Management

Why in News?

On June 17, 2023, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar awarded Madhya Pradesh the first National Water Award in the Best State Category for its outstanding work in the field of water conservation, management and utilization at the 4th National Water Awards Ceremony of the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Key Points:

• Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar awarded the first prize to State Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat and Additional Chief Secretary SN Mishra.
• This is the fourth National Water Award-2022 of the country. As many as 41 winners in 11 different categories were felicitated at the event.
• Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat honoured Indore Municipal Corporation with the second prize in the Best Urban Local Body category for its excellent performance in water supply and distribution. He honoured Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and Additional Commissioner Siddharth Jain with a citation, trophy and a cash prize of Rs one lakh 50 thousand.

• Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat said that in the last 18 years, the area under irrigation in the state has increased to 45 lakh hectares, which the state government is committed to increasing to 65 lakh hectares by the year 2025.
• There has been an innovation in the state to deliver water directly from the dam to the fields through an underground pipeline. State's Mohanpura and Kundalia project, whose irrigation capacity is 2 lakh 25 thousand hectares, has been established as an exemplary irrigation project in the field of water use efficiency upgrade.

Joint Craft Market of Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh Launched

Why in News?

On June 16, 2023, Madhya Pradesh's Cottage and Village Industries Department's Additional Chief Secretary Manu Srivastava and Andhra Pradesh's Principal Secretary K.K. Sunita inaugurated the joint 'Craft Market’ of both states at Gohar Mahal in Bhopal.

Key Points:

• It is known that the 'Craft Market' is being organized by the Cottage and Village Industries Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Ministry of Textiles, Andhra Pradesh from June 16 to 25 at Gohar Mahal in Bhopal.
• Commissioner-cum-Managing Director Sant Ravidas Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation Sufiyah Faruqui said that the material produced by the artisans of Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh is available for sale in the 'Craft Market' to be held till June 25.
• Commissioner Handicrafts Faruqui said that on the basis of the agreement between Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, to make the crafts of Andhra Pradesh available to the people of Andhra Pradesh, the articles of Lepakshi Emporium of Andhra Pradesh will be displayed in Mrignayani Show-room. It will also be available for sale.
