Jamui's Jabir Ansari Won Bronze Medal in Karate Championship

Why in News

  • In the All India Inter University Karate Championship held at Kurukshetra University, Haryana from March 14 to 17, 2022, Jabir Ansari of Jamui, Bihar won the bronze medal by securing the third position.

Key Points

  • Jabir Ansari of Patna University won the bronze medal in the 75 kg weight category of this competition by securing joint third position with Rajesh of Venkateshwara Open University.
  • In the 75 kg weight category, Aman Kumar of Lovely Professional University Punjab got first position and Vaibhav Walia of Chandigarh University Mohali got second position.
  • It is noteworthy that about 1200 players from 190 universities across the country participated in the All India Inter University Karate Championship held at the Multipurpose Hall of Kurukshetra University.
  • Jabir Ansari, who has become a veteran in Judo Karate, is a student of Urdu Department in Patna University for the session 2020-23 and has been playing Karate since 2015.
  • Jabir Ansari has won many medals from state to international level championships. He finished second in the International Game held in Sri Lanka in the year 2017. In 2015, he won the gold medal in the National Championship and in the year 2021 secured the first position in the state level championship.
  • Coming from a simple family, Jabir hails from Tumba Pahar village of Jhajha block of Naxalite area of ​​Jamui district.
  • He has played in championships in China in 2018 and Turkey in 2019 and has been honored twice at the Sports Honors Ceremony of the Government of Bihar in 2018 and 2021.

Cashless Treatment of Workers From April 1

Why in News

  • On March 18, 2022, Anurag Choudhary, CEO of Ayushman Bharat Niramayam Society, informed that the workers engaged in construction works on sites like buildings, roads, bridges, ponds in Madhya Pradesh will be provided cashless treatment from April 1.

Key Points

  • It is noteworthy that 12 lakh 50 thousand laborers who are doing construction at places like buildings, roads, bridges are being linked to the Ayushman scheme under contract by the Ayushman Bharat Niramayam Society and Karmakar Mandal of the state government.
  • Under the contract, the labor families registered in the workers' board will be given the facility of free treatment by making cards. Under this, 12 and a half lakh labor families of the state will also get the facility of free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year.
  • 90% of the workers in the state are in the unorganized sector. These workers will be able to get a free treatment facility from Ayushman Yojana. Many times workers get injured in accidents during construction works and due to financial constraints they are not able to get treatment on time, but they will be able to get treatment through Ayushman Yojana.
  • Cards will be given to the workers of the unorganized sector including the workers registered in the Workers' Board. For this, camps will be set up at construction sites. At the same time, the card holder workers of the Karmakar Mandal can also get the card made from the kiosk center through labor card, Aadhar card and Samagra ID.
  • The cost of the treatment of workers undergoing treatment under Ayushman Yojana will be borne by the Workers' Board. For this, an amount of about Rs 1052 per worker will be deposited as annual premium in Niramayam Society by the Workers' Board.

New Income Limit for Old Age Pension

Why in News

  • On March 17, 2022, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said in a press conference in Chandigarh that a new income limit would be fixed for old age pensions in the state.

Key Points

  • The Chief Minister said that the Haryana government has taken this decision to prevent malpractices in government schemes and to weed out the ineligible.
  • Recently, in the investigation of PPP (Family Identity Card), 18 thousand widow women have been found in the state, who have remarried, but are also taking widow pension.
  • To get the benefit of old age pension, the income limit in the year 2011 was 50 thousand rupees. In the year 2012, this income limit was increased to Rs 2 lakh. Since then, there has been no change in the income limit of old age pension.
  • In order to bring transparency in pension, the state government has sent the data of persons aged 57 to 60 years in the field for verification through family identity card. After verification, their pension will start automatically on attaining the age of 60 years.
  • The birth and death registration process has been digitized and linked to Parivar Pehchan Patra, so that the information of family members is updated automatically.
  • The Chief Minister said that in the fifth phase, data of about 30.06 lakh families have been sent for verification. Till now the number of verified families below Rs 1.80 lakh is 13 lakh 53 thousand. It is estimated that the number of such families will be around 20 lakhs. Out of the verified households, the number of scheduled caste families is 31 percent and the number of families belonging to backward classes is 37 percent.

  • On March 17, 2022, Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais returned the Mob Violence and Prevention of Mob Lynching Bill, 2021 to the state government.

Key Points

  • Governor Ramesh Bais has returned the bill directing to redefine the word 'Mob' in this bill.
  • The Governor kept this bill with him for about four months and returned it in consultation with the Law Department.
  • Article 200 of the Indian Constitution deals with the powers of the Governor with regard to assent given to bills passed by the State legislature and other powers of the Governor such as reserving the bill for the President's consideration.
  • It is noteworthy that in the winter session of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly last year (2021), the Hemant government of the state got it passed by the House and sent it to the Governor for his approval.
  • In the Prevention of Mob Lynching Bill, 2021, the state government has made a provision for attachment of property with fine and punishment ranging from three years to life imprisonment.
  • In this bill, a provision has been made for the punishment of life imprisonment for the death of someone in mob lynching. Apart from this, there is a provision of punishment ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment for grievous hurt.
  • According to the bill, those instigating the mob will also be held guilty and will be given a three-year jail term. Whoever destroys any evidence connected with the offense shall also be deemed to be an offender. Apart from this, provision has been made in this bill to provide compensation to the victim's family and free treatment of the victim.

Proposal To Increase Labor Budget in MGNREGA

Why in News

  • On March 17, 2022, the Union Ministry of Rural Development approved an increase of two crore 22 lakh man-days in the labor budget of MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) in Chhattisgarh.

Key Points

  • After the approval of the Union Rural Development Ministry, now the target of employment generation under MGNREGA for the current financial year 2021-22 in the state will increase from 13.50 million man-days to 15.72 million man-days.
  • Chhattisgarh had achieved the target of generating 13 and a half crore man-days of employment under MGNREGA in the current financial year 2021-22 in the month of February itself.
  • It is noteworthy that so far this year, about 54 lakh five thousand workers of more than 28 lakh families have been given work under NREGA in the state. During this, employment of more than 100 days has also been provided to four lakh 75 thousand 374 families.

Six Private Hospitals Out of the List of Ayushman Yojana

Why in News

  • On March 17, 2022, Uttarakhand State Health Authority delisted six private hospitals for not providing all the specialty facilities available in the hospital to the patients on the Golden Card of Ayushman Yojana.

Key Points

  • The State Health Authority has delisted six private hospitals of Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Tehri districts. These include Combined Medical Institute, Dehradun (CMI), Sundar Mohan Dental Care and Root Canal Center Dehradun, Usha Bahuguna Alpha Health Institute Nainital, Gahtori Hospital and Research Centre, Kishore Hospital Udham Singh Nagar and Christian Hospital Chamba.
  • One month's time was given by the authority to the empaneled hospitals to provide facilities of all the specialties. Except Wellmade Hospital, no other private hospital was ready to provide all the services. On this the authority has taken action to cancel the listing.
  • According to the guidelines of the Ayushman scheme of the National Health Authority, all the facilities available in the empaneled hospitals will have to be provided to the patients.
  • There are many such private hospitals in the state, which have listed treatment of one or two diseases on the Golden Card. Due to this, problems are being faced in getting treatment for patients holding Golden Cards.
  • Golden Card is a card with the help of which any person of the country can get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in selected government and private hospitals under Ayushman Bharat scheme. This card is given to the poor people who are the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat scheme.
