Robotic operation of two children in Sanjay Gandhi PGI

Why in News

On February 18, 2022, for the first time at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (PGI) of Medical Science Lucknow, doctors gave new life to two children by performing a complex operation with robots.

Key Points

  • PGI, Lucknow has become the first institute in the state to achieve the feat of operation of children through robots. Both the girls were operated by the doctors of PGI, Lucknow under the leadership of Dr. Ravi Kanojia, Pediatric Surgeon of Chandigarh PGI. The health of both the children is improving.
  • According to Dr. Basant Kumar, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, PGI Lucknow, the first operation took one hour and the second one and a half hours. The cost of each child's operation is about one lakh rupees.
  • A three-and-a-half year old resident of Sonbhadra district was suffering from a congenital disease called 'Lump in the gallbladder'. This disease is called colidocal cyst in medical science. Because of this, the bile ducts were bloated and there was pain in the stomach. Robotically operated the gall sac was removed and the duct was attached to the intestine.
  • The second operation was for a blockage in the esophagus and stomach of a five-year-old girl from Jhansi, causing vomiting and belching. In medical science, this disease is called Echligia Cardia. After the operation this problem has been resolved.
  • Dr. Basant said that the robotic operation is accurate and safe. It has less risk. With bleeding and pain patients need not stay more in the hospital.
  • It is worth Mentioning that in only five institutions in the country, children's operations are being done with robots.

On February 18, 2022, Sakibul Ghani of East Champaran created history by scoring a triple century in his debut match in the Ranji Trophy match being played at the Jadavpur University ground in Kolkata.

Key Points

  • Sakibul Ghani played a brilliant innings of 341 runs (56×4 and 2×6) in 405 balls while playing against Mizoram for the Bihar team.
  • Due to his brilliant innings, Bihar made a huge score of 609 runs in 148.5 overs in the first innings. This is the first time in the history of Ranji Trophy when a batsman has scored a triple century. Along with this, Sakibul Ghani also took the national record for the highest score in the debut match of Ranji Trophy.
  • Earlier this record was in the name of Madhya Pradesh batsman Ajay Roheda. Ajay scored an unbeaten 267 against Hyderabad in his debut match in 2018.
  • 22 year old Sakibul Gani is a resident of Mohalla Agwara in Motihari city. His father is Mohd. Mannan Gani. He has consistently performed well in the competitions organized by the BCCI for the last two-three seasons. He has performed well in Under-14 in 2015, Under-19 in 2016-17 and Bihar Under-23 in 2017 and 18, Vijay Hazare Senior Trophy in 2019 and 2021, Mushtaq Ali (20-20) held in Chennai in 2020 and Vijay Hazare (50-50) trophy held in Delhi in 2021.

Youth Parliament Competition

Why in News

Eight students of Nalanda were selected at the district level in the Youth Parliament Competition held in Bihar recently.

Key Points

  • These selected students will represent the district in the state level competition to be held from February 23 to 27, 2022.
  • The selected students will get an opportunity to participate in the National Youth Parliament to be held in Delhi on 8th and 9th March, 2022.
  • This competition was conducted online by Patliputra University NSS. Out of these, four boys and four girls have been selected.
  • Dr. Bineet Lal, Program Officer of Nalanda College NSS and the judge of the competition, said that the selected students had expressed their views on one of the six subjects prescribed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
  • Mansi Kumari, Amit Kumar, Amar Raj from Nalanda College and Arpita Raj, Shobha Kumari from Nalanda College of Women and Sapna Kumari, Sunny Prashant, Sunny Kumar from Kisan College have been selected in this competition.
  • It is noteworthy that on January 12, 2018, at the inauguration of the 22nd National Youth Festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the idea of organizing a District Youth Parliament. After this, the first National Youth Parliament Festival was organized in January-February 2019.
  • The main objective of organizing the Youth Parliament is to know about the opinion of youths of 18 to 25 years for the New India Vision of 2022 and involve them in it.

Book Launch of “CM’s Address in Bihar Legislative Council”

On February 18, 2022, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh released a book that has a collection of speeches given by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar Legislative Council.

  • The Deputy Chairman said that after Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister in 2005, the image of Bihar as a Sick State has been changed and he made national and international recognition through his work.
  • The name of the book released is “Published Collection of CM’s Address in Bihar Legislative Council”.
  • In this book the speeches of the Chief Minister given during the 151st to 195th session of the Legislative Council have been compiled.
  • The program was organized in the auditorium located in the annexe of the Legislative Council.

MoU Between NHM and WISH Foundation

Why in News

On February 18, 2022, an MoU was signed between NHM Rajasthan and its technical partner institute 'WISH Foundation' at Swasthya Bhawan with the aim of improving the essential facilities and services as per the National Quality Assurance Standard in the state hospitals and health centers of Rajasthan.

Key Points

  • Minister of Medical Health & Services, Parsadi Lal Meena informed that due to this MoU for a period of three years, necessary reforms will be brought in proper utilization of medical services and resources available at 100 health centers of the state as per national standards.
  • Under these programmes, health centers are inspected by skilled monitors at various levels. According to monitoring, marks are given for each service, on the basis of which three-year certificate and financial amount are given to the winning health institutions.

Important Decisions Taken in the Meeting of the Council of Ministers

Why in News

On February 18, 2022, a meeting of the Council of Ministers was held under the chairmanship of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in which various important decisions were taken.

Key Points

  • The State Council of Ministers approved the proposed Narmada Expressway as Narmada Pragati Path in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Along with this, approval was given to authorize the Department of Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion to prepare an action plan for the purpose of financing development and investment promotion of industrial areas on the Narmada Pragati Path.
  • The cabinet approved the collection of consumer fee for five years through a contracting agency on 17 pre-constructed roads under Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation.
  • In order to encourage startups in the state, MP Startup Policy and Implementation Plan 2022 cum process and guidelines have been approved. Under the policy, provision has been made for financial and non-financial facilities and assistance and facilitation to startups and incubators.
  • The cabinet approved an estimated expenditure of Rs 50 lakh to send equestrian Faraj Khan to Germany for training for the preparation of the 19th Asian Games 2022 (China).
  • The cabinet gave its approval to change the name of 'Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board' to 'Madhya Pradesh Staff Selection Board' and hand over the related work to the General Administration Department.

Jal Jeevan Mission

Why in News

On February 18, 2022, Madhya Pradesh Public Health Engineering Department approved ISA for water supply schemes of rural areas of the state in Jal Jeevan Mission. Approval of Rs 44 crore 65 lakh has been given for the appointment.

Key Points

  • Implementation Support Agency (ISA) is selected as per the guidelines of Jal Jeevan Mission. This agency will provide its services for drinking water and community management, water quality, rain water harvesting / recharge, water resource management, capacity building and awareness generation, public health engineering and water in the water supply scheme area.
  • In order to provide water to the entire rural population of Madhya Pradesh through tap connections, water supply schemes are being run under the National Jal Jeevan Mission.
  • Under Jal Jeevan Mission, ISA for water supply schemes of 10 thousand 261 villages in 13 districts of the state- Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Gwalior, Datia, Guna, Ashoknagar and Shivpuri respectively. Appointment has been made. This amount can be spent on the services of these districts.

Special Room in Mini Secretariat on the Lines of Google Office

On February 18, 2022, Hisar Deputy Commissioner Dr. Priyanka Soni inaugurated the Maternity Room on the lines of Google Office in the Mini Secretariat Complex.

  • Deputy Commissioner Dr. Priyanka Soni said that there is a separate place for the newborn children of women employees working in big private companies. In companies like Google, female employees can leave their children there. This maternity room has been built on some similar lines.
  • Mothers who come with their newborn babies to the Secretariat premises are unable to breastfeed their babies due to lack of privacy. Because of this, children start crying from hunger. Women feel uncomfortable while breastfeeding in public places, in such places women are not able to change even the diapers of children.
  • Realizing the above problems, it was instructed to set up a maternity room on the ground floor of the Mini Secretariat through the Department of Women and Child Development.
  • The purpose of setting up a maternity room is to provide such mothers with a secluded place where they can breastfeed their child. They will also be able to sit here comfortably during the working hours.

Balwadi Scheme

Why in News

In a cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on February 18, 2022, it was decided that 'Balwadi' would also be started in the premises of 6536 schools of the state where Anganwadis are running.

Key Points

  • They will be operated like 'Balwadi' pre-school, where children in the age group of 5 to 6 years will get education through academics and games.
  • This decision of the state government is in line with the National Education Policy 2020. 68 thousand 54 children will be benefited in the academic year 2022-23 through this scheme to be operated under the name 'Balwadi'.
  • Children's material named 'Balvatika' has been prepared for the operation of 'Balwadi'. Preparations have been made for the training of teachers. Kindergarten will be run in the school premises two hours before the meal break.
  • By running this scheme at these places, the foundation will be provided to improve the basic literacy and numeracy among the children before school, which will prove to be the foundation stone in improving the educational level of the children in the primary level.
  • Out of 3 lakh 23 thousand 624 students in the age group of 5-6 years of the state, 68 thousand 54 students will be benefited from this session (2022-23).
  • It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had announced the operation of 'Balwadi' in his message to the public on Republic Day on January 26, 2022.
  • The total number of primary schools in the state is 30 thousand 574 and the number of Anganwadi centers is 52 thousand 474. The number of such Anganwadi centers, which are located within the school premises, is 6 thousand 536. Pre-schools are to be started at these places through education and sports for children of 5-6 years in the name of Balwadi. Phase wise schemes will be expanded in the coming time.

On February 18, 2022, Avik Tikku, a class 3 student of Dikshant International School located in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, secured first rank by securing 40 marks in SOF International English Olympiad.

  • Avik Tikku was given 1000 rupees, gold medal and certificate as a reward. Myra Sawhney of class 3 got 38 marks at regional level and 11th rank at international level, who was awarded 500 rupees, medal and certificate.

On February 18, 2022, a 60 seater Interpretation Center (Mini Theatre) was launched in the zoo by the Nainital Forest Division at a cost of Rs 35 lakh.

  • Through this, the employees, officers and trainees of the Forest Department will be shown a documentary film about the life of wildlife, avoiding the incidents of forest fires and the work done by the department.
  • DFO TR Bijulal said that in various countries including America, various information and training are given through the Interpretation Center method.
  • An amount of Rs 35 lakh was given to Nainital Forest Division under the state plan to set up an Interpretation Center.
  • Now the employees and officers of the forest department will be given training to understand and do the work done by the department.
