'Locust Control in Rajasthan'

Why in News

  • On March 16, 2022, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria released the book 'Locust Control in Rajasthan' at Pant Krishi Bhawan.

Key Points

  • In this book, information has been given about the steps and innovations taken by the Agriculture Department for control during the locust attack on crops in the year 2019 and 2020 in Rajasthan.
  • Along with this, detailed technical information related to locusts and measures to be taken for control have been told in the book.
  • It is noteworthy that swarms of immature pink locusts and adult yellow locusts are active in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Dausa and Bharatpur districts of Rajasthan state and Jhansi and Mahoba districts of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Locust control campaign was carried out in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. This campaign was started from Rajasthan on 11th April, 2020.
  • Locust control campaign was carried out by Local Circle Offices (LCOs) in July, 2020 at 25 places in 6 districts of Rajasthan – Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nagaur and Dausa and two places in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • In addition, control operations were carried out by the state agriculture departments at 4 places in Jhansi and Mahoba districts of Uttar Pradesh and at 2 places in Bharatpur in Rajasthan to eliminate small groups of locusts.
  • The Government of India's Locust Warning Organization (LWO) and ten Locust Circle Offices (LCOs) are located in Rajasthan (Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Phalodi, Barmer, Jalore, Churu, Nagaur, Suratgarh) and Gujarat (Palanpur and Bhuj), mainly in Rajasthan. and 2 lakh sq km of Gujarat. 'Eat Smart City Challenge' Competition

Why in News

  • Recently, 4 cities of the state - Indore, Ujjain, Sagar and Jabalpur have been selected in the top 11 of the country in FSSAI's 'Eat Smart City Challenge' competition. 180 of the country and 9 districts of the state participated in the competition. These cities have been awarded by FSSAI.

Key Points

  • The 'Eat Smart City Challenge' competition was held to strengthen the food security ecosystem and inculcate a culture of consumption of quality food among the common citizens.
  • In this, various activities related to food safety include regulatory sample collection, increase in food licenses and registration, promotion of food safety in public places, providing information about food safety to common citizens through social media, clean street food hub, clean vegetable market, Bhog, Eat Right School, Eat Right Campus, Hygiene Rating etc.
  • In order to provide quality, healthy and nutritious food items to the common citizens, the Food Security Administration is running a 'Freedom from Adulteration' campaign against those who adulterate food items.
  • There are 15 mobile laboratories operating in the state for testing of food items. Common citizens can get their food items tested for just Rs 10 from a mobile laboratory. Modern laboratories are being built in Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur to increase testing capacity.
  • Raja Bhoj Airport Bhopal is the first airport to get Eat Right Campus among the institutions of the state to get the first certification in the country. The first temple to get 'Bhog' (BHOG) certificate is Mahakal Mandir, Ujjain and the first mosque/dargah to get 'Bhog' (BHOG) certificate is Dargah-e-Hakimi, Burhanpur.

Colleges Will Get Provisional Accreditation for Two Years

  • On March 16, 2022, Commissioner, Higher Education, Deepak Singh said that the National Assessment and Accreditation Council has made changes in the evaluation process of colleges. Now the colleges which have completed one year of establishment will get provisional accreditation.

  • Deepak Singh said this while addressing a one-day workshop on provisional accreditation training at Sarojini Naidu Government Girls Postgraduate College.
  • He said that NAAC accreditation is obtained after evaluating the overall performance of any educational institution. PAC for newly established colleges is a good initiative.
  • He directed the principals and professors of colleges of Bhopal and Sagar divisions who came under training to prepare their respective colleges for NAAC evaluation. 110 principals and professors of 55 colleges participated in the training.
  • It is noteworthy that training for provisional accreditation is being given at Bhopal, Ujjain, Jabalpur and Gwalior.

MoU between Uttarakhand Health Department and Meditrina of Kerala

  • On March 16, 2022, Uttarakhand state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Meditrina Hospitals of Kerala for the treatment of heart diseases in the state. Meditrina will offer its services at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (Coronation) Hospital in Dehradun.

  • Director General (DG) of State Health Services Dr. Tripti Bahuguna and Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Meditrina Hospitals Dr. N. Pratap Kumar signed the MoU in the State Health Directorate.
  • The contract has been signed for a period of seven years. Under this, serving and retired employees of the state government, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, BPL, ESIC, ECSH and CGHS card holders will get free treatment and general category patients will get treatment at concessional rates. Treatment and surgery related to heart disease in children will also be done.
