Approval of Rail Project from Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar and Delhi to Panipat

Why in News?

  • In a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on 15 May 2023, it was informed that the Haryana government has approved Delhi-Gurugram-Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB)-Alwar and Delhi to Panipat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) projects. Now the approval of these projects will be taken by the Central Government.

Key Points:

  • It was informed in the meeting that the length of the Delhi-SNB RRTS corridor will be 107 km. In this, 70 km will be elevated and the remaining km will be underground. It will have 6 underground, 9 elevated and 1 at-grade station. There is a plan to build a depot at Dharuhera.
  • The length of this corridor passing through Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan is 23 km,83 km. and 2 km respectively.
  • The elevated portion of the proposed alignment will be between Old Delhi-Gurugram, Right of Way (ROW) of Sector-17 in Gurugram and NH-40, 48 up to SNB (Rajasthan border).
  • Binod Bihari Mahato Koyalanchal University of Dhanbad, Delhi, Harirajya has also issued an order regarding the examination of the students of Nursing School.
  • Yana and Rajasthan have approved the project, while the approval of the Central Government is under consideration. The proposed stations on the Delhi-SNB corridor are Sarai Kale Khan, INA, Munirka, Aerocity, Udyog Vihar, Sector-17, Rajiv Chowk, Kherkidola, Manesar, Panchgaon, Bilaspur Chowk, Dharuhera, MBIR, Rewari, Bawal and SNB.
  • Of the 103 km long alignment, 11.5 km of the Delhi-Panipat RRTS corridor will be elevated and the remaining 91.5 km will be underground. It will have 2 underground, 14 elevated and 2 at-grade stations. There are plans to set up two depots at Murthal and Panipat. Its length in Delhi will be 36.2 km while in Haryana it will be 66.8 km.
  • NCRTC Managing Director Vivek Singh said through video conferencing that the 17 km long section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor from Sahibabad to Duhai is about to become operational.
  • It may be noted that NCRTC is a Government of India joint venture company & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan are partner states.
