Scheduled Caste and Backward Class Dharamshalas and Social Sector Institutions will get 75 percent and 50 percent Subsidy Respectively on Solar Energy

Why In News?

  • On September 14, 2022, Haryana Power Minister Chaudhary Ranjit Singh said that with a view to promote solar energy as alternative energy, the state government has decided to give 75 percent subsidy on solar power plants to be installed on the rooftops of dharamshalas of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes in Haryana and 50 percent subsidy on buildings of social institutions.

  • Chaudhary Ranjit Singh gave this information while addressing reporters at his office. He said that the state government will provide 50 percent financial assistance on the buildings of social institutions and the remaining 50 percent expenditure will have to be borne by the beneficiary institutions.
  • The Power Minister said that awareness has come among the people about the 'Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon' scheme. The Electricity Department is also running a continuous campaign to prevent theft of electricity.
  • He said that in the year 2019-20, 171688 campuses were checked and 45394 electricity theft cases were caught and a fine of Rs 138.79 crore was imposed, out of which Rs 92.94 crore was recovered.
  • Similarly, in 2020-21, 226213 premises were checked and 73524 electricity theft cases were caught and a fine of Rs 245.71 crore was imposed, out of which an amount of Rs 131.7 crore was recovered.
  • In the year 2021-22, checking was done in 312102 premises and 75839 cases of power theft were caught and a fine of Rs 272.23 crore was imposed, out of which an amount of Rs 132.53 crore was recovered. Thus, a total amount of Rs 357.17 crore was recovered as penalty.
