Fire Safety Week

Why in News?

• On April 14, 2022, to prevent fire accidents during summer, statewide Fire Safety Week was started in Uttar Pradesh.

Key Points

• Special emphasis was laid in the Safety Week that 'Prevention is better than cure', so that the damage caused by fire can be reduced to a great extent.
• A flag pin has also been put up by the Fire Department for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence to mark the beginning of the Fire Safety Week being observed from April 14 to April 20.
• The objective of Fire Safety Week is not only to save the state from fire hazards but also to create awareness and awareness among the public, especially in rural areas, farm-barns and kutcha houses from fire hazards.
• The motto of Fire Safety Week is 'Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity' in industrial and commercial establishments.
• In this campaign, people are made aware about the main causes of fire (like electrical short-circuit, overloading of electricity, careless use of gas cylinders, smoking etc.) through digital media along with training on how to exit safely through mock drills.

GPR Survey for Archaeological Structures in Banka and Patna Districts

Why in News?

• Recently, Deepak Anand, Director of Archaeological Directorate said that in the GPR survey being conducted by the Government of Bihar, the GPR survey in Bhadariya village of Amarpur block of Banka is almost complete, while the survey will start soon in Patna district.

Key Points

• Director Anand pointed out that ancient Patna, known as Pataliputra, was the capital of the Magadha Empire. Pataliputra was the land of knowledge, which has been related to astronomers and scholars like Aryabhata, Vatsyayana and Chanakya.
• Regarding the Mandar mountain in Banka, he said that there are many references in Hindu mythology, such as this hill was used in the churning of the ocean.
• It is worth mentioning that the archaeological importance of Bhadariya village of Banka came to the fore recently when villagers found some ancient bricks and structures made of bricks. According to preliminary studies, the remains found here are 2600 years old.
• Recently, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also visited the discovered archaeological site on the banks of river Chanan and announced to develop the place located in Bhadariya village as a tourist destination.
• GPR is a geophysical method that uses a radar pulse to image the upper surface. This non-destructive method uses electromagnetic radiation in the microwave band (UHF/VHF frequencies) of the radio spectrum and detects reflected signals from subsurface structures.
• This technique helps in the identification of archaeological sites and their structure, thereby assisting in the interpretation of ancient settlements and man-made structures before possible excavations.

77th National Conference of API 'APICON, 2022'

Why in News?

• On April 14, 2022, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the 77th National Conference of Association of Physicians of India (API) 'APICON, 2022' at Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre, Sitapura.

Key Points

• On this occasion, the Chief Minister honored the doctors with the prestigious Jivraj Mehta Award for the year 2020 and 2021 and also released various books written by medical experts.
• Organized by API Jaipur Chapter, this 4-day conference will be organized till April 17, 2022.
• It is worth mentioning that this annual conference of API is being organized in Jaipur after 10 years.
• More than 6,000 international and national doctors will participate in this conference. The conference will feature outstanding discussions and debates covering all aspects of medicine, from discovering innovative ways to live in the 'Pink of Health'.
• Epicon, 2022 will prove to be a milestone for first hand experience of technology in the practice of medicine as well as in organizing hi-tech conferences. The conference will also provide ample exposure and business opportunities to the industrial partners.

Training Institute for Drone Pilots

Why in News?

• In a meeting of the Board of Directors of Drone Imaging and Information Service of Haryana Limited (DRIISHYA) held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on April 14, 2022, it was decided to set up a training institute under the aegis of DRIISHYA to provide training to drone pilots in Haryana.

Key Points

• This institute will prove to be helpful in meeting the various training needs of personnel of DRIISHYA and other organizations.
• Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the establishment of Drishya is a unique beginning in the state, as now with the help of drones, the extension of the area can be traced as well as illegal encroachments can be controlled.
• While directing the concerned officers to ensure speedy disposal of various types of survey and imaging work, the Chief Minister said that apart from the Revenue Department use of drones should also be ensured in other departments like Urban Local Bodies, Power, Disaster Management, Mining, Forest Transport, Town and Country Planning, Agriculture etc.
• It is worth mentioning that Haryana is the first state to form a separate corporation to provide faster speed to UAV powered governance applications.

Statue of Sidhu-Kanhu to be Built in the Park and Sports Ground of Telipada, Jharkhand

Why in News?

• Recently, the officials of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation said that along with the construction of a park and a sports ground in the name of martyr Sidhu-Kanhu with Rs 2 crore in Telipada, the statue of Sidhu-Kanhu will also be installed.

Key Points

• The park and sports ground are planned to be constructed at the place where people of the tribal community have been celebrating the Sohrai festival for centuries.
• Sidhu Murmu and Kanhu Murmu were the leaders of the Santhal rebellion (1855–1856). They rebelled against the British colonial power and corrupt zamindari system in eastern India (present-day Jharkhand and Purulia and Bankura in Bengal).
• India Post also issued a postage stamp of Rs 4 in their honor in 2002. Along with this, a Sidhu-Kanhu Memorial Park has also been built in their honor in Ranchi.

Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand

Why in News?

• Recently, the Home Department has been nominated as the nodal department by the Uttarakhand government for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state.

Key Points

• After this decision, the Home Department will prepare a draft of Uniform Civil Code along with constituting a committee for this.
• It is worth mentioning that the government, in its first cabinet meeting itself, while deciding to form a committee for this, had said that the committee would include experts related to law and law as well as other fields.
• For this, the Justice Department was entrusted with the responsibility of preparing its draft while making it the nodal department, which has now been changed to the Home Department.
• It is noteworthy that the provision related to Uniform Civil Code has been given in Article 44 under Part-4 of the Constitution.
• At present Goa is the only state where Uniform Civil Code is in force.
