Islamnagar will be known as Jagdishpur

Why In News?

On February 14, 2023, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveiled the naming stone of Jagdishpur on the occasion of Gaurav Diwas program at Chaman Mahal in Jagdishpur (Islamnagar), Bhopal. Islamnagar will now be known as Jagdishpur.

  • It is worth noting that a notification was issued by the Revenue Department of Madhya Pradesh on the Gazette on February 1, 2023, in which the change in the name has been reported. It has been written in this notification that the name of Islam Nagar village of Bhopal district is being changed after the communication of no objection to the letter of Ministry of Home Affairs. This notification has been issued in the name of the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.
  • On this occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of works worth Rs 26 crore 71 lakh 86 thousand.
  • It is noteworthy that Jagdishpur is a gram panchayat located in Bhopal district. It comes under Phanda Block in Tehsil Huzur. Jagdishpur (Islamnagar) used to be the capital of Bhopal princely state in the past. Jagdishpur was the stronghold of Deora Rajputs. Jagdishpur was settled by Rajput rulers. Before the year 1715, the ruler of this place was Narsingh Deora Chauhan.
  • After the death of Aurangzeb 308 years ago, Mohammad Khan, a soldier friend of his army, fled to Jagdishpur via Uttar Pradesh, Malwa and Mangalgarh. First, he attacked Jagdishpur, in which he got a crushing defeat. After that Dost Mohammad Khan had invited Raja Narsingh Deora for a meal and killed him while eating. Then Dost Mohammad Khan took over Jagdishpur and named it Islamnagar.
  • The fort of Jagdishpur is known for its architecture. Gond Mahal, Rani Mahal and Chaman Mahal are the main tourist destinations in Jagdishpur.

State ‘Rupankar Kala Puraskar’ Announced

Why In News?

On February 14, 2023, State Rupankar Kala Puraskar has been announced in the field of fine arts in the state for the year 2022-23 by the Ustad Alauddin Khan Music and Art Academy of the Culture Department of Madhya Pradesh.

  • It may be mentioned that 10 state level awards will be given on February 20, 2023, in the State Rupankar Kala Puraskar on the occasion of the inauguration of Khajuraho Dance Festival in Khajuraho.
  • The awardees will receive a cash prize of Rs 51,000 and a citation. Also, an exhibition of award-winning and selected artworks will be held 20 from to 26 February 2023 at the Khajuraho Dance Festival venue.
  • In the State Rupankar Art Awards, Devkrishna Jatashankar Joshi Award for the year 2022-23 will be given to Amit Kumar Sinha of Jabalpur for his artwork 'The Shining Maker' and Mukund Sakharam Bhand Award to Samiksha Rathore of Bhopal for 'Titleless'.
  • In the State Rupankar Kala Puraskar, Syed Haider Raza Award for the year 2022-23 to Popil Manna of Bhopal for 'Depth of Fairness', Dattatreya Damodar Devlalikar Award to Prem Kumar Singh of Dhar for 'Untitled-1', Jagdish Swaminathan Award Man Singh Vyam of Bhopal for 'Zindagi Ek Safar', Vishnu Chinchalkar Award to Upendra Upadhyay of Indore for 'Semal Ki Bahaar', Narayan Shridhar Bendre Award to Omprakash Mahore of Gwalior for 'Rango Ka Bachpan', Raghunath Krishnarao Phadke Award Girish Ba of Bhopal. Urkude for 'Untitled-2', Ram Manohar Sinha Award will be given to Shivani Dubey of Bhopal for 'Historicity-6' and Laxmi Shankar Rajput Award to Anjali Raut of Jabalpur for 'Printed Queen-1'.
