Chief Minister honored 75 players of Gorakhpur Division

Why in News

  • On August 13, 2021, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honored 75 players of the Gorakhpur division at Digvijaynath Smriti Bhawan auditorium of Gorakshanath temple in district Gorakhpur.

Key Points

  • International wrestler Amarnath Yadav, international shooter Gajendra Rai, national-level table tennis player Ms. Shagun Kumari, national-level hockey player Ms. Muskan Paswan, gymnast Vivek Yadav, weightlifter Vikas Chauhan, state-level swimmer Saurabh Shukla, national-level basketball player Ms. Kshama Gupta and handball player Ms. Mukta Tiwari are prominently involved.
  • On this occasion, the Chief Minister talked about organizing a program in Lucknow to reward the medal winners in the Tokyo Olympics.
  • In this program, Rs 2 crore to the gold medalist, Rs 1.5 crore to the silver medalist, Rs 1 crore to the bronze medalist, Rs 1 crore to each player of the men's hockey team, and Rs 50 lakh to each player of the women's hockey team.
  • Sports coaches will also be honored in this event. Along with this, 75-75 players from all 75 districts of the state will also be specially invited.

Divyangjan Rights Act Implemented in the State

Why in News

Key Points

  • Under this act, provision has been made by the state government to provide equal opportunities to persons with disabilities, to utilize the potential of persons with disabilities by providing a suitable environment, not to discriminate against persons with disabilities on the basis of disability, etc. Similarly, the provision that they should not be deprived of their personal liberty on the basis of disability is also included in the Act.
  • The State Government has taken necessary steps to ensure the availability of proper accommodation to persons with disabilities, measures and provisions have been made to protect persons with disabilities from torture, inhuman, degrading treatment.
  • According to the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, all the departments, corporations, boards, and commissions will ensure its compliance. If the Act is not followed by the department, corporation, board, and commission, then there is a provision to take necessary action against the concerned body as per rules.

Haryana to Ban Plying of 15-year-old Vehicles

Why in News

  • Recently the Haryana Government is all set to ban plying of 15 years old vehicles with state carriage, contract carriage, and goods carriage permits in all the districts in the non-National Capital Region of the state.

Key Points

  • The State Government has notified draft rules to amend the Haryana Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993 to add the age for the operation of various types of transport vehicles in the state.
  • As per the new rules called the Haryana Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules 2021, two separate categories of National Capital Region area and Non-National Capital Region area have been created in the state. At present, there are 13 districts of Haryana in the NCR area. 
  • The rules stated, “The maximum age of vehicles allowed to operate in both the NCR area and the Non-NCR region will be nine years for tourist permit (motor cabs). For tourist permits other than motor cabs, the age limit will be eight years in the NCR area and Non-NCR area.”
  • Similarly, for all other permits including State carriage, contract carriage, a goods carriage, the maximum age limit in the case of CNG/electric/clean fuel vehicles will be 15 years while it would be 10 years for diesel vehicles in the NCR area. For the non-NCR area, the age limit will be 15 years for both categories of vehicles.
  • According to the National Green Tribunal’s 2015 order, petrol cars in Delhi-NCR have a life cycle of 15 years while the same for diesel cars in 10 years. Haryana Government had also in 2016 issued directions banning 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles from roads in NCR districts in a bid to curtail the pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR region.

Why in News

  • On 14 August 2021, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel honored well-known writer Satish Jaiswal with the 21st Vasundhara Samman at a function held at his residence office.

Key Points

  • The function was organized by Lok Jagran's monthly magazine 'Vasundhara' on the occasion of the 45th death anniversary of Gandhian Gramsevak Late Devi Prasad Choubey.
  • Culture Minister Amarjeet Bhagat presided over this function organized in collaboration with Chhattisgarh Government's Culture Department and Shri Chaturbhuj Memorial Foundation.
  • The 58th issue of the monthly magazine 'Vasundhara' of 'Lok Jagran' and the 109th issue of 'Bahumat', a monthly magazine of art, literature, and culture, was also launched in the ceremony. This issue of Vasundhara focuses on representative stories of 11 story writers of Chhattisgarh.
  • Vasundhara Samman, continuing since 2001, till now has been given to, Sarvshree Ramesh Nayar, Kumar Sahu, Shyamlal Chaturvedi, Basant Kumar Tiwari, Baban Prasad Mishra, Diwakar Muktibodh, Asha Shukla, Sharad Kothari, Girija Shankar, Himanshu Dwivedi, Vinod Shankar Shukla, Gyan Awasthi, Shyam Vetal, Abhay Kishore, Girish Pankaj, Sushil Trivedi, B.K.S.Ray, Prakash Dubey, Tushar Kanti Bose and E.V. Murali.
