Nine New Dairy Plants will Open in the State
Why In News?
- During his speech at the inaugural session of International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit 2022 held in Greater Noida on September 12, 2022, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state is the top milk producer of the country and the next two Nine new dairy plants will be operational in the years.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Conference 2022 held in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The conference was last held in India in 1974.
- The four-day dairy conference is being attended by dairy people from all over the world, including India. Apart from this, industry leaders, experts, farmers and policy makers will also participate in the program.
- The conference focuses on the theme 'Dairy for Nutrition and Livelihood'. Apart from this, it also focuses on job creation and nutrition, which are quite relevant issues.
- Yogi Adityanath said That Uttar Pradesh contributes 16 percent to the total dairy production of the country with an annual milk production of 319 lakh tonnes and is the top milk producing state in the country.
- He said that at present 110 dairies are functioning in the organized sector in Uttar Pradesh and this includes dairies in the cooperative sector. There are also 8,600 milk societies in the state, through which more than four lakh members engaged in milk production are active.
- He said that at present work is going on in full swing to start a new greenfield dairy plant in Uttar Pradesh. These plants will be commissioned in the next one to two years. Work is underway to establish four more such milk producer institutions in different areas of the state. He said that the state government would invest in the state under Nand Baba Milk Mission during the next five years.

- On September 12, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit 2022 (IDF World Dairy Summit 2022) held at India Expo Center & Mart, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
Key Points
- Held from September 12 to 15, the four-day IDF WDS 2022, focused on the theme of 'Dairy for Nutrition and Livelihood', is a gathering of global and Indian dairy stakeholders including industry stalwarts, experts, farmers and policy planners.
- Around 1500 participants from 50 countries are expected to participate in IDF WDS 2022 . The last such summit was held in India almost half a century ago in 1974.
- The Prime Minister spoke of the importance of 'livestock' and milk-related business in India's cultural landscape. He said that unlike other developed countries of the world, the real strength of the dairy sector in India is small farmers. India's dairy sector is identified more by 'production by mass' than 'mass production'. Based on the efforts of these small farmers with one, two or three cattle, India is the largest milk producing country.
- He said milk production across the world is growing at a rate of 2 percent while in India it is growing at an annual rate of over 6 percent. The sector provides employment to more than 8 crore families in the country.
- The government has taken several steps for the betterment of the dairy sector, resulting in an increase of over 44 percent in milk production in the last eight years.
- The Indian dairy industry is unique as it is based on a cooperative model that empowers small and marginal dairy farmers, especially women.
- The success story of the Indian dairy industry, which accounts for about 23 per cent of global milk, produces around 210 million tonnes annually and empowers over 80 million dairy farmers, will be showcased at IDF WDS 2022.
- Organizing this summit will help Indian dairies as well as help farmers in getting information about global best practices.
