Three Day Under 19 State Level Badminton Competition

Why In News?

  • On December 11, 2022 the three-day junior boys and girls (Under 19) state level badminton competition held at the indoor stadium of Dumka, Jharkhand, came to an end, in which Neeraj Kesari of Ranchi in the boys' category and Sara Sharma of Ranchi captured the title in the girl's category.

Key Points

  • In the boys' singles, Neeraj Kesari of Ranchi defeated Harshit Raj of Gumla and Sara Sharma of Ranchi won the title by defeating Vaibhavi Mann of Dhanbad in the girls' singles.
  • On the other hand, in the doubles match of the boy's category, the pair of Emmanuel Kujur and Priyanshu Tirkey of West Singhbhum defeated the pair of Harshit Raj of Gumla and Neeraj Kesari of Ranchi and in the doubles match of the girls, the pair of Seraikela's Adya Singh and Sara Sharma of East Singhbhum won the match. By defeating the pair of Manisha Mishra and Yogita Bora of East Singhbhum, they won the title of boys and girls doubles category respectively.
  • In the mixed doubles match played on round robin basis, Neeraj Kesri of Ranchi and Sara Sharma of East Singhbhum stood first while Emanuel Kujur of West Singhbhum and Yogita Bora of Ranchi stood second.
  • Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh said that in the span of 22 years since the formation of the state, several efforts have been made for the development of sports by various governments. Presently Jharkhand is working diligently to develop sports talent and provide better facilities to them.
  • The players who have secured the first position in the state level badminton competition will get an opportunity to participate in the national level competitions to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from December 18.
  • About 60 participants from other districts of Jharkhand including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Ramgarh, Latehar, Lohardaga, Chaibasa, Seraikela, Dhanbad, Deoghar and Dumka displayed their Jauhar in the competition.
