Why in News
On November 10, 2021, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved to declare 15 November as Tribal Pride Day. 15th November is also the foundation day of Jharkhand state.
Key Points
- This announcement of the cabinet gives approval to the glorious history and cultural heritage of the tribal communities. This Tribal Pride Day will be observed every year and will recognize the efforts of the tribals to preserve the cultural heritage and promote the Indian values of valor, hospitality and national pride.
- This day is dedicated to the memory of the brave tribal freedom fighters, so that the coming generations can know about their sacrifices towards the country.
- As part of Tribal Pride Day celebrations, the Central Government in association with the State Governments will start a week long festival from November 15 to November 22 to showcase the glorious history of tribal society, culture, heritage, contribution of tribal society in the freedom struggle.
- Born on November 15, 1875, Birsa Munda fought valiantly against the exploitative system of the British colonial system and led the movement against British repression, calling for 'ulgulan' (revolution).
- The Prime Minister had approved the establishment of 10 tribal freedom fighter museums across India including Ranchi on the Independence Day of 2016. The old jail in Ranchi, where Birsa Munda breathed his last, is being renovated as a museum.
