Inauguration of Two New Districts 'Manendragarh- Chirmiri-Bharatpur' and 'Sakti' in the state
Why In News?
- On September 9, 2022, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated two new districts 'Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur' and 'Sakti' as the 32nd and 33rd administrative districts respectively in the state. Due to this, the number of districts in the state has increased to 33.

- Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had inaugurated three newly formed districts - Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh and Khairagarh-Chuikhadan-Gandai in the state on September 2 and 3. He had also approved the development works of the new districts.
- The new district of Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur has been carved out of Koriya district. It is bordered by Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh and Kusmi tehsil of Sidhi district in the north, Podi-Uproda tehsil of Korba district and Ramanujnagar tehsil of Surajpur district in the south, Baikunthpur and Sonhat tehsils of Koriya district in the east and Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in the west and Anuppur and Shahdol districts of Madhya Pradesh.
- The estimated population of this district is four lakh 11 thousand 515. It includes subdivision Manendragarh, tehsil Manendragarh and Kelhari and subdivision Bharatpur, tehsil Bharatpur and subdivision Khargaon-Chirmiri, tehsil Khargawan.
- Janjgir-Champa was already a district for the education department. Now it has also become an administrative district. The new district will include a total of 5 tehsils including Tehsil Sakti, Malkharoda, Jaijaipur of subdivision Sakti and Tehsil Dabhra of subdivision Dabhra.
- It is bordered by Kartala tehsil of Korba district in the north, Sarangarh tehsil of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district in the south, Kharsia in Raigarh district in the east and Saragaon and Bamhanidih tehsils of Janjgir-Champa district in the west.
- The total area of Sakti district is one lakh 51 thousand 976 sq km. Is. According to the 2011 census, the population of Sakti district is 6 lakh 47 thousand 254. The total number of villages in it is 465.
- It is noteworthy that in 2000, the state of Chhattisgarh was formed by separating 16 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The previous BJP government led by Dr. Raman Singh had set up 11 new districts during the period of 2003-2018.
- In December 2018, the Congress took power, then there were 27 districts in the state. Six new districts have been formed by the Baghel government in February 2020, including the formation of Pendra-Gaurela-Merwahi district in February 2020.
