Jagriti Yadav of Lucknow became UK High Commissioner for a Day

Why In News?

  • On October 10, 2022, 20-year-old Jagriti Yadav from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh became the High Commissioner in the British High Commission for one day in India in the 'India edition of the High Commissioner competition for one day'.

Key Points

  • The British Embassy said that Jagriti Yadav is the sixth winner of the India edition of the High Commissioner competition for one day.
  • Jagriti Yadav spent a day as Britain's top diplomat in India after winning the sixth edition of the High Commissioner's Competition for a day. Jagriti also experienced a wide range of diplomatic activities, including meeting with various stakeholders. During this Jagriti also participated in many programs.
  • It is known that this competition is organized annually since the year 2017. The aim of this competition is to empower women for the next generation.
  • Along with Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Jagriti also launched a book honoring 75 Indian women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).
  • UK High Commissioner Alex Ellis said Jagriti is articulate and focused and showcases talent across India. As women grow, we all rise. The UK and India do a lot together to promote gender equality, including research and education. He told that this year 50 percent of Chevening Scholarship for India has been provided to women.
  • It is noteworthy that the High Commission organizes a 'High Commissioner for a Day' competition every year to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child (October 11). More than 270 girls from all over India had applied for this year's competition.

300 Feet Deep Hand Pump will be Installed in 10 Thousand Villages of Bihar

Why In News?

  • On October 10, 2022, the Department of PHED (Public Health Engineering Department) of Bihar informed that preparations have been started to install one hand pump in 10,000 villages to provide water to rural areas of the state.

Key Points

  • According to the department, to overcome the shortage of water in the rural areas of the state, each hand pump will be installed in 10,000 villages, whose depth will be 300 feet.
  • PHED will select 10,000 such villages for installation of hand pumps, where people get regular water for 12 months and 24 hours.
  • The officials of the department said that the proposal would be sent to the cabinet soon for the approval of the plan to install hand pumps in the villages. After the proposal is approved, such villages will be selected where hand pumps will be installed. A target of about six months will be set to complete this scheme.
  • Keeping in view the next 50 years, the department has taken this decision to install a 300 feet deep hand pump, so that people get the water they need in every season.
  • According to officials, tap water is being supplied to every household in Bihar. Despite this, after marking such villages and villages, hand pumps will be installed keeping in view the level of groundwater there.
  • It is noteworthy that at present eight and a half lakh hand pumps are working in the state, from which people are getting water. Geo-tagging of all these hand pumps has been done so that the regular operation of the hand pump can be monitored regularly. At the same time, whether the hand pump is working regularly or not, signatures are taken from three people of the locality, whose hand pump has been installed around the house.

Rajasthan Rural Family Livelihood Loan Scheme

Why In News?

  • On October 10, 2022, Rajasthan Cooperation Minister Uday Lal Anjana informed that the Chief Minister has approved the implementation of 'Rajasthan Rural Family Livelihood Loan Scheme' for the families of rural areas of the state.

Key Points

  • Under the Rajasthan Rural Family Livelihood Loan Scheme, interest-free loans of Rs 2,000 crore will be given to one lakh families for non-agricultural works in the year 2022-23 . Families living in rural areas of the state for the last 5 years will be eligible for this loan. This loan will be available through commercial banks, regional rural banks, cooperative banks and small finance banks. The state government will provide interest subvention of Rs 100 crore for such loans.
  • Cooperative Minister Uday Lal Anjana informed that the families of small and marginal farmers and landless laborers who are doing tenants, oral lessees, sharecroppers etc., fulfilling other eligibility criteria in the scheme, will also be eligible. Apart from this, rural artisans and members of rural family living in non-agricultural work will also be eligible.
  • Along with this, loans will be made available to individual members of self-help groups, producer groups and business groups of Rajivika for group activities. Individual loan will be given to a maximum of 10 members per group and the maximum loan amount will be Rs 2 lakh.
  • He said that for the loan, the applicant must be a resident of the work area or district of the bank branch and his base and support base should be maintained. The family member should have a Kisan card issued by any licensed bank. Families who do not have Kisan Credit Card will be sanctioned credit cards for non-agricultural activities as new members. No processing fee will be charged from the applicant.
  • Minister Anjana informed that the applicant will be sanctioned as the entire loan credit limit. The credit limit amount will be assessed keeping in view the capital requirements of the business, working capital and day-to-day needs. The sanctioned credit limit will have to be renewed every year, that is, on completion of one year, the outstanding amount will have to be deposited in the account and the credit limit will have to be renewed for the next year. For this scheme, the state government will also give continuous interest subsidy in the coming years.
  • He said that a target has been set to provide interest free loans to one lakh rural households including 55 thousand 158 by commercial banks, 36 thousand 741 by regional rural banks, 5 thousand 949 by cooperative banks and 2 thousand 152 by small finance banks. The sanctioned loan amount will have to be repaid within a period of one year and the borrower can get the credit limit renewed for the next year.
  • The eligible family will be selected from the rural area on the basis of the total target number allotted to the district by the District Collector. The committee headed by the District Collector will examine the eligibility criteria and send the loan application form to the concerned bank branch of the online applications received on the portal. The branch will take a decision on loan sanction in 15 days.

Rehabilitation Policy will Soon be Made for Destitute Children in Uttarakhand

Why In News?

  • On October 10, 2022, Uttarakhand's Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya informed that for the first time in the state, the Street Children (Destitute) Rehabilitation Policy will be implemented from November 9.

Key Points

  • The Minister for Empowerment and Child Development said that the proposal has been prepared by the government, which is set to be implemented on the occasion of the state foundation day (November 9).
  • He said that a proposal for rehabilitation policy has been prepared to connect orphans and children roaming destitute on the streets in the state with the mainstream of education.
  • It is noteworthy that the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Development has prepared a draft of this policy. Suggestions were sought from the district magistrates and concerned officials of all the districts to finalize the policy.
  • Departmental officials have informed that there are three types of children living on the streets. One is the children who live alone. Others live with their parents. The third is the children who stay on the road all day and go to the slums as the day progresses. Such children are not in school or in the family. Most of the children are from states outside Uttarakhand.
  • He said that such children are especially in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts. Arrangements are being made to build shelter homes for these children in the policy.
  • Officials say that at present, shelter homes are running in Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani, which will be increased according to the need.
  • Regarding the policy, some district magistrates have also proposed that these children should be kept in the shelter home during the day, while in the evening they should leave with their families.
  • In this policy, along with the education of these children, there is also a preparation to connect them with skill development.
