The Country's Biggest Rubber Dam

Why In News?

  • On September 8, 2022, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated Bihar's first and country's longest rubber dam 'Gayaji Dam' built on falgu river in Gaya district.

Key Points

  • Built at a cost of Rs 312 crore, the dam uses rubber instead of concrete. It is also environmentally friendly. It is three meters high and 411 meters long. It has six spans of 60-65 meters in length.
  • Rubber sheets have been installed under the river in a length of about one thousand meters. Its diaphragm is three hundred meters. Dam is like a balloon. Its rubber tube has an automatic system for filling and removing air. Balloon air can be removed when the water is high. This will prevent and release water as per the need.
  • According to the information, the Austrian company and the Hyderabad-based agency have prepared it together. The rubber dam is made of 17 mm thick rubber. It is bulletproof. At the same time, it is being claimed that it will not deteriorate for one hundred years.
  • Built in Gaya, a famous pilgrimage site of Hindus and Buddhism, this rubber dam will keep water in the Falgu river throughout the year. This will facilitate people in bathing, pind daan and tarpan.
  • Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had laid the foundation stone on September 22, 2020. Its construction was then targeted in October 2023. But it was completed in 2022.

Haryana Land Pulling Policy-2022

Why In News?

  • On September 9, 2022, the Haryana Town and Country Planning Department notified the 'Haryana Land Pulling Policy-2022'.

Key Points

  • Farmers' land will no longer be forcibly acquired in Haryana for urbanisation and industrialisation. The land will be purchased only on the basis of the wishes of the farmers.
  • Along with this, land banks will be prepared in the state for different projects, so that the projects can get land on time and development work can be done quickly.
  • After getting the land at the will of the farmers, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP) will develop residential, commercial, institutional and infrastructure located within the urban area in the published development plan.
  • Besides, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) will also set up new industrial units in Haryana. Land rights certificates will be issued to land owners.
  • The Haryana Land Pulling Policy-2022 was approved in the Haryana Cabinet meeting on July 29.
  • Under the policy, any land owner will be able to offer land for the project within 60 days of seeking applications directly or through aggregator. This period can also be extended as required, which will not exceed 30 days. There will be no fee for the application and the application will be accepted only online.
  • Land owners can also take developed land in lieu of land. This will be based on the market value of the undeveloped land given to the land owners in the total cost of the project.
  • Annual interim financial assistance will be provided to every generor contributing to the development project, which will be included in the total cost of the project. If the land is offered through the aggregator, the aggregator will be eligible to receive the remuneration, provided that the remuneration is not less than 0.5 percent.

Inauguration of Two New Districts 'Manendragarh- Chirmiri-Bharatpur' and 'Sakti' in the state

  • On September 9, 2022, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated two new districts 'Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur' and 'Sakti' as the 32nd and 33rd administrative districts respectively in the state. Due to this, the number of districts in the state has increased to 33.

  • Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had inaugurated three newly formed districts - Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh and Khairagarh-Chuikhadan-Gandai in the state on September 2 and 3. He had also approved the development works of the new districts.
  • The new district of Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur has been carved out of Koriya district. It is bordered by Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh and Kusmi tehsil of Sidhi district in the north, Podi-Uproda tehsil of Korba district and Ramanujnagar tehsil of Surajpur district in the south, Baikunthpur and Sonhat tehsils of Koriya district in the east and Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in the west and Anuppur and Shahdol districts of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The estimated population of this district is four lakh 11 thousand 515. It includes subdivision Manendragarh, tehsil Manendragarh and Kelhari and subdivision Bharatpur, tehsil Bharatpur and subdivision Khargaon-Chirmiri, tehsil Khargawan.
  • Janjgir-Champa was already a district for the education department. Now it has also become an administrative district. The new district will include a total of 5 tehsils including Tehsil Sakti, Malkharoda, Jaijaipur of subdivision Sakti and Tehsil Dabhra of subdivision Dabhra.
  • It is bordered by Kartala tehsil of Korba district in the north, Sarangarh tehsil of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district in the south, Kharsia in Raigarh district in the east and Saragaon and Bamhanidih tehsils of Janjgir-Champa district in the west.
  • The total area of Sakti district is one lakh 51 thousand 976 sq km. Is. According to the 2011 census, the population of Sakti district is 6 lakh 47 thousand 254. The total number of villages in it is 465.
  • It is noteworthy that in 2000, the state of Chhattisgarh was formed by separating 16 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The previous BJP government led by Dr. Raman Singh had set up 11 new districts during the period of 2003-2018.
  • In December 2018, the Congress took power, then there were 27 districts in the state. Six new districts have been formed by the Baghel government in February 2020, including the formation of Pendra-Gaurela-Merwahi district in February 2020.

  • On September 9, 2022, several important decisions were taken including cancellation of 5 recruitment examinations under uttarakhand subordinate services selection commission (UKSSSC) in the meeting of Uttarakhand Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Key Points

  • The Cabinet has cancelled five recruitment examinations of uttarakhand subordinate services selection commission, which is surrounded by paper leak controversy. Now these recruitments will be done by Uttarakhand Public Service Commission. Along with this, the responsibility of 18 new recruitments has also been entrusted to the Public Service Commission. In the cabinet meeting, it was approved to amend the regulations of the Public Service Commission for this.
  • After the meeting, Secretary Personnel Shailesh Bagauli said that it has been decided to divide the recruitments of Subordinate Services Selection Commission into three categories.
  • Uttarakhand Public Service Commission has been given the responsibility of recruitment to a total of 7000 posts. Of these, there are 700 posts whose recruitment examination has been canceled. There are 5340 posts for which only advertisement has been published and 1187 are posts for which advertisement is to be published.
  • The Public Service Commission will issue a calendar for all the recruitments. All the rules related to group C will apply in this. Candidates whose fees were deposited, will not have to pay the fees again.
  • Several other important decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat-
