Sports Literacy Mission

Why in News

  • On August 9, 2021, Governor Kalraj Mishra oversaw the 'Sports Literacy Mission Vehicle’ at the Raj Bhavan to create awareness about the Olympic Games and to connect the new generation with it.

Key Points

  • The Rajasthan Government launched this vehicle to create awareness about the Olympic Games across the villages through 'Sports a Way of Life' organisation. This organisation is also creating awareness through 'Khel Praveshika'.
  • Governor Mishra said that sports culture should be developed at all levels. He described such efforts as important to connect the young generation with sports and encourage it at all levels.

66th Rajasthan State Senior Table Tennis Competition

Why in News

  • The 66th Rajasthan State Senior Table Tennis Competition was organized on 7th and 8th August at Moolchand Chauhan Indoor Stadium, Ajmer in Rajasthan.

Key Points

  • In this competition, Nandini Nagori of Jaipur won the women's title by defeating Radhika Sharma of Ajmer in the final of the women's category. In the men's final, Harsh Srivastava of Ajmer defeated Vivek Bhargava of Jaipur to win the men's title.
  • In the two-day competition, a total of 86 contestants from Jodhpur, Sirohi, Pali, Alwar, Bikaner, Jaipur, Churu, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Jalore, Udaipur, Ganganagar, Bharatpur, Dausa have won prize money of about Rs 25,000.
  • It is noteworthy that the Table Tennis Association of India and the Rajasthan Table Tennis Association are among the few sports federations in the country and the state, which successfully organised all state and national competitions even during the severe global pandemic.

Country's First Passenger Train to Run On Hydrogen Fuel

Why in News

  • The Indian Railways has decided to introduce the country's first hydrogen-fuelled train.
    • Initially, the hydrogen fuel-based technology will be introduced on the 89 km long Sonipat-Jind route.

Key Points

  • The Indian Railways has decided to introduce the country's first hydrogen-fuelled train under the 'National Hydrogen Energy Mission'.
  • Initially, 2 DEMU rakes will be converted, and later 2 hybrid narrow gauge locos will be converted based on hydrogen fuel cell power movement.
  • Significantly, this decision has been taken to cut down on the Green House Gas (GHG) emission under 'Paris Climate Agreement 2015’ and ‘Mission Net Zero Carbon Emission Railway' by 2030.
  • So far, this method of power generation in railways is being used by Germany and Poland only.

Dedicated Satellite Channel for Tribals

Why in News

  • Recently, the Jharkhand government has launched the first satellite TV channel 'Tribe TV' for the tribal communities in their own language.

Key Points

  • This channel will be broadcasted in the Santhali/Santali language.
  • After Santhali, Tribe TV will also be launched in other popular tribal languages like Mundari, Kurukh etc.
  • Its headquarters will be at Raiganj, North Dinajpur in Bengal and it will be run by an organization named Kalyani Solvex.
  • The focus of Tribe TV will be in Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Bihar as a large number of Santali tribes reside in these states.

KCC and Chief Minister Livestock Distribution Program

Why in News

  • On August 9, 2021, Chief Minister Hemant Soren distributed a total of Rs. 734 crore under Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and Chief Minister Livestock Distribution Program to about 2 lakhs farmers.
  • This amount was distributed to the farmers on the occasion of 'World Tribal Day'.

Key Points

  • The main goal of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and Chief Minister's Livestock Distribution Program is to reduce poverty in the state by increasing the income of farmers. Along with this, the problem of malnutrition present in the state is also to be solved through livestock distribution.
  • On this occasion, the commitment of increasing the contribution of the agriculture sector to the GDP of the state was expressed by the Chief Minister by strengthening the economic condition of the farmers in Jharkhand.

Tribal Atlas of Chhattisgarh

Why in News

  • On August 9, 2021, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel released the Tribal Atlas prepared by the Tribal Research and Training Institute (TRI) on the occasion of World Tribal Day.

Key Points

  • Chhattisgarh has become the third state in the country after Odisha and Jharkhand to prepare Tribal Atlas.
  • In this Tribal Atlas, information about the culture, customs, dialects, tribal arts and crafts, Teej-festival, dance, tribal tourism, special backward tribes of the state as well as information regarding the scheduled area of the state has been included.
  • Also, in this atlas, information about basic educational institutions like tribal sub-plan area, tribal ashram schools/hostels, Eklavya Model Residential School, Prayas Vidyalaya, administrative units in the state, community-wise tribal population, sex ratio, educational status and health facilities will be provided, also included.
  • In this atlas, a brief district wise habitat profile in respect of 42 tribes of the state has been done through inset map.
  • Along with the habitat profile, information about the district-wise majorly inhabited, tribe, forest area and different conditions has been presented.
  • The atlas also includes the basic survey of special backward tribes conducted by the Institute in Census 2011 and information from the Tribal and Scheduled Castes Development Department.

Sitanadi Tiger Reserve

Why in News

  • On August 9, 2021, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel handed over community forest resource rights to five villages in the core areas of Sitanadi Udanti Tiger Reserve in Gariaband district on the occasion of World Tribal Day.

Key Points

  • In a virtual program, the Chief Minister has entrusted the rights of community forest resources to the forest rights committees of these five villages of Gariaband district.
  • After recognizing community forest resource rights to these villages in the core areas of Sitanadi Udanti Tiger Reserve, Chhattisgarh has joined the states where this right has been given in the core area of the Tiger Reserve.
  • This is the first time in the state that community forest resource rights have been given in the core area of the Tiger Reserve. This right was given to village Karka in the buffer area of Sitanadi last year.
  • The five villages settled in the core areas of Sitanadi Udanti Tiger Reserve, which have been given this right, include village Masulkhoi (975.58 hectare), village Karhi (984.92 hectare), village Joratarai (551.42 hectare), village Baroli (1389.61 hectare) and village Bahigaon. (1651.72 hectares).

Why in News

  • 'Poona Narkom Abhiyan' was launched by Sukma District Police on the occasion of World Tribal Day on 9th August, 2021.

  • Under this campaign, medical camps were organized in different places of the district including district headquarters for the tribal villagers of rural areas in collaboration with the district health department.
  • Along with this, daily useful materials were also distributed to the villagers.
  • Under this campaign, work will be done to bring awareness to the policies of the government along with education, health and employment.
  • Under the Poona Narkom campaign, the youth will be made aware and trained in the field of employment by the Sukma Police.

Samman Pension Scheme

Why in News

  • On August 9, 2021, Chief Minister Dhami, in a conference held at the Town Hall of Dehradun, renamed the 'Kutumb Pension Scheme' to the dependents of the freedom fighters of the state as 'Samman Pension Yojana'.

  • Expressing respect for the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, the name of this scheme has been changed to Samman Yojana.
  • On this occasion, the dependents of the freedom fighters were honored and their contribution was appreciated.
  • The main objective of this scheme is to improve the standard of living of the dependents of freedom fighters and to provide them financial assistance.
