Food Safety Laboratory In Every District

Why in News

  • On March 9, 2022, Rajasthan's Medical and Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena informed the Legislative Assembly that food laboratories would be set up in every district during this financial year to check adulteration.

Key Points

  • The process of setting up laboratories in all the districts except Churu and Jalore districts is under process.
  • Proposals for labs at Churu and Jalore have been sent to the Government of India under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Lab operations can be started in these two districts only after getting approval.
  • The Medical Minister informed that as per the provision of Section 29(1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the State Level Rajasthan Food Safety Authority has been constituted vide government order dated June 22, 2020, for effective implementation of the Act.
  • It is noteworthy that in order to ensure that people get pure food items, in this budget announcement, the Chief Minister has announced the formation of Food Safety Authority in every district.
  • Food laboratories are operating in 11 districts of the state- Jaipur, Jodhpur, Alwar, Banswara, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bharatpur, Churu and Jalore to check adulteration. Apart from this, 9 mobile food laboratories are also operating in the state at the divisional level.
  • Approval has been issued to make provision in the budget for setting up of food laboratories in Sikar, Baran, Bhilwara, Barmer, Dholpur, Nagaur and Ganganagar districts in the cradle of the budget announcement.

National Safety Award (Mining)

  • Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Limited (RSMML) and its Barmer Lignite Mining Company Limited were awarded the 'National Safety Award' (Mining) on March 8, 2022.

  • These prestigious awards were presented to the representatives of the winning mines in a program organized by the Union Minister of Labor and Employment at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • Tulsi Ram Agrawal, Executive Director, Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Limited said that these national level awards have been given in view of the excellent safety performance of the mines during the last four years.
  • RSMML has been awarded the 'National Security Award' for the year 2019 and 2020 and Barmer Lignite Mining Company Limited for the year 2017 and 2018.
  • Group General Manager (Limestone) PR Prajapat, Group General Manager (Projects) Om Patel and Blasters Ashish Gilbert received these awards for the year 2019 and 2020 on behalf of RSMML at the function.
  • It is noteworthy that this national level award is given annually to coal, metal and oil mines in two categories to develop health competition among the safety parameters of mines by the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment.
  • Under these awards, stringent safety parameters such as zero accident rate for three consecutive years, complete safety of the workers working in the mine and regular health check-up are kept in view.

Deendayal Antyodaya Rasoi Yojana

  • On March 8, 2022, Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh informed that in the second phase of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana, one crore food plates have been distributed since February 26, 2021.

  • In the kitchen center, Chapati/Roti, seasonal vegetables, pulses and rice are made available to the general public in the form of clean and nutritious food. In the kitchen centers, daily lunch is being arranged per person at the rate of Rs 10 per plate from 10 am to 3 pm.

  • Aastha Sankul organization has taken steps towards livelihood through food, nutrition, health and cleanliness. The organization has inspired 2300 families of the area to produce vegetables through the kitchen garden. For this, 605 families have been provided with improved vegetable seeds at a rate less than the market price.
  • Under the cluster area, more than 6500 quintals of vegetables like tomato, okra, bhata, bitter gourd, gourd, cabbage have been produced by organic method by 2300 families in their own kitchen garden.
  • Apart from the use of these vegetables in home meals, they have also been made available for the nutrition of adolescent girls, pregnant women, newlyweds and children below two years of age. Due to this, the women of the cluster organization also benefited financially.
  • Under the Sankul Sangathan, the members of self-help groups are raising their standard of living through various livelihood activities. The women of the organization are involved in activities like sustainable agriculture, vegetable production, sanitary napkin manufacturing, bank sakhi and e-rickshaw operation. Along with livelihood related work, the women of the organization have also worked for awareness about Covid-19.
