National Nutrition Month

Why in News

On September 7, 2021, Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the fourth 'National Nutrition Month' in Lucknow and also released the baby shower card 'Shagun' and a mascot 'Aanchal' of the ICDS department.

Key Points

  • Poshan month will be conducted by dividing it into four categories:
    • In the first week- Plantation at the nutrition garden.
    • In the second week- Distribution of Nutrition kit to Anganwadi beneficiaries.
    • In the third week- Yoga and Ayush.
    • In the fourth week- Special campaign for identification of SAM (Severe Acute Malnourished) children and construction of a community kitchen for them.
  • In the National Nutrition Month 2021, special emphasis will be given on the plantation campaign for the establishment of nutrition gardens and the identification and monitoring of Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) children.
  • Apart from these, distribution of Yoga and AYUSH (yoga sessions focusing on children, adolescent girls, girls and women) and nutritional promotional material and supplementary nutrition etc. will be done.
  • On this occasion, the Governor inaugurated 529 new Anganwadi centers constructed in 24 districts of the state.
  • Apart from this, he honored the excellent performing Anganwadi workers, Chief Sevikas and Child Development Project Officers by giving them citations and symbolically distributed appointment letters to 10 out of 91 newly selected Child Development Project Officers.
  • It is noteworthy that every year the month of September is celebrated as Nutrition Month (Poshan Mah) across the country to ensure community mobilization and increase people's participation. It was launched in September 2018.

‘Clean Air Blue Skies’ Workshop

Why in News

On the occasion of 'International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies' on September 7, 2021 an online workshop ‘Clean Air Blue Skies’ was organized in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Alwar and Udaipur districts of the state by Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board and Center for Science and Environment, Delhi.

Key Points

  • The event was organized to create awareness among individuals, communities, corporates and the government about the importance of clean air for health, productivity, economy and environment.
  • The workshop also provided a platform to diverse groups including urban local bodies, industry associations, academia and a large number of schools, civil society groups and media representatives. Around 287 schools of Rajasthan were invited for the event.
  • Anand Mohan, member of Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, presented an overview of the National Clean Air Program and five non-attainment cities of Rajasthan and shared his remarkable observations with CSEs and stakeholder agencies.
  • It is noteworthy that to promote efforts to protect human health and improve air quality, 'International Day of Clean Air for Blue Sky' is celebrated every year on 7 September.
    • This year's theme is 'Clean Air, Healthy Planet', which emphasizes the adverse health effects of air pollution, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • Its aim is to prioritize the need for clean air for all.

CM lays Foundation Stone of 2 Power Grids

Why in News

Recently, Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated 132/33 KV Grid Substation Meral established at Bhagodih of Garhwa district and Laid the foundation stone of 132/33 KV Grid Substation Nagar Antari (Bhawnathpur) and sub station Chhatarpur.

Key Points

  • The Chief Minister said that Makri, Pandariya, Buka, Garda, Saraiya, Arsali etc. areas of Garhwa district would be benefited by the establishment of this grid sub-station Meral.
  • Now the consumers of these areas will get relief from the problem of low voltage and all the people including businessmen, schools and other institutions will get freedom from electricity related problems.
  • The Chief Minister said that the foundation stone of 132/33 KV grid sub-stations at Nagar Antari (Bhawnathpur) and Chhatarpur has been laid in view of the future demand for electricity in Palamu Division. In the coming 24 months, both the power substation grids will be ready.
  • He said that GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) technology is being used for the first time in the power substation grid to be built at Chhatarpur, which will reduce disturbances in power transmission.

'Handlooms and Handicrafts' Exhibition

Why in News

On September 7, 2021, Chhattisgarh's Village Industries Minister Guru Rudrakumar inaugurated a seven-day handloom and handicrafts exhibition at Satnam Bhawan, located in Bhilai, Durg district. The exhibition will run till September 13.

Key Points

  • The exhibition is being organized by the District Handloom Office, Durg.
  • In this exhibition, Dhokra handicrafts, iron crafts, wood crafts, bamboo crafts, tattoo crafts, shisal crafts, terracotta crafts, murals, stone crafts, cowry crafts, tumba crafts, including traditional textiles of the states prepared by weavers and craftsmen.
    • Stalls have been set up for handloom textiles like kosa silk, tussar silk, cotton dress material, saris, dupattas, chadars, bedsheets and khadi textiles and materials manufactured by village industries.
  • The artefacts of Janjgir made from paddy straw, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Mahavir Swami and Ganeshji's attractive artefacts made of paddy straw, are prominent among the various artefacts in the stalls set up in different districts in the exhibition.
  • On this occasion, Guru Rudrakumar appreciated all the handloom textile and handicraft art stalls and described it as a medium to keep our culture and civilization alive.
  • He said that people associated with village industries get direct benefits from such events and a better market is also available for their art and the products made by them. This helps the artisans and craftsmen to express their expression through art and encourages them and they work with double zeal.

'Mor Jimmedari' Campaign

Why in News

On September 7, 2021, Chhattisgarh's Health and Family Welfare Minister T.S. Singhdeo launched the awareness campaign 'Mor Jimmedari' in collaboration with other voluntary organizations including UNICEF and Ekta Parishad.

Key Points

  • On this occasion, Minister Singhdev flagged off the Mor Jimmedari Awareness Rath to motivate the people of the state towards covid behavior and vaccination.
  • Singhdeo said that the campaign to make people aware of 100 percent vaccination and corona behavior in the state by UNICEF, Ekta Parishad and other allied organizations is a commendable initiative.
  • Through UNICEF, their volunteers will go door-to-door in 600 inaccessible villages of 20 districts of the state to make people aware about the prevention of Kovid vaccination and infection.
  • He appealed to all eligible people to get Covid vaccine for protection and control from Corona. Volunteers including UNICEF's Chhattisgarh Head Job Jakaria, Ekta Parishad's Ramesh Sharma were present in the program.
