Khelo India Youth Games, 2021 launched in Panchkula

Why in News?

  • On June 4, 2022, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 4th edition of 'Khelo India Youth Games, 2021' at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula, Haryana.

Key Points

  • The Khelo India Youth Games, 2021 will be held in 5 cities (Panchkula, Shahabad, Ambala, Chandigarh and Delhi) till June 13, while Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex Panchkula is the main venue of these sports events.
  • More than 4,700 athletes, including 2,262 girls from 37 states and Union Territories of India, are participating in the event. There will be a total of 25 sports in these games, which include 5 indigenous sports of India - Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta, Gatka, Mallakhamb and Yogasana.
  • For the first time, five traditional sports, namely, Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta, Malkhamb and Yogasana have also been included in this prestigious competition.
  • For the first time in the Khelo India Games, Haryana also organized a statewide torch relay. The specially designed canter visited all the districts and promoted sports and encouraged children to take up sports.

Haryana gets Rs 2,366 crore worth of Development Project

Why in News?

  • On June 4, 2022, Union Home Minister Amit Shah gifted development projects worth Rs 2366 crore to Haryana.

Key Points

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar laid the foundation stone of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Government Medical College to be built in Yamuna Nagar at a cost of about Rs 997 crore and Government Medical College, Kaithal at a cost of about Rs 945 crore.
  • In addition, he also laid the foundation stone for construction of water supply channel system for 2800 MW Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Project (Atomic Power Project) at Fatehabad district. The project will cost about Rs.394 crores.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the 2800 MW Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojna (Atomic Power Project) is an ambitious initiative of the Central Government. This will be haryana's first nuclear power plant. It will be based entirely on indigenous technology.
  • The plant will generate 2800 MW of power, out of which 1400 MW will be supplied to Haryana.
  • With the commissioning of this plant, power supply will be ensured not only to the people of this area but also to the people of the state. The areas around this plant will not only get employment, but also economic prosperity.
