Two Vice Chancellors Honored with Honorary Degrees of Colonel

Why in News

• On March 7, 2022, the Governor of Jharkhand, Ramesh Bais honored Dr. Mukul Narayan Dev, Vice Chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University and Dr. Sonjharia Minj, Vice Chancellor of Sidho Kanhu Murmu University, with honorary degrees of Colonel at Raj Bhavan.

Key Points

• Along with this, both the Vice Chancellors were appointed as Colonel Commandants for NCC Officers and Cadets under their respective Universities.
• It is to be noted that only those Vice Chancellors selected from the Ministry of Defence, Government of India are given the title of Honorary Colonel, who have made special contribution in their university for the expansion and upliftment of NCC.
• These Vice Chancellors did the work of encouraging NCC cadets in their university. In view of these works, on the recommendation of the Director General of NCC, the Government of India decided to confer on him the honorary title of Colonel.
• The cadets of the Air Force and Naval wing of NCC also displayed several aircraft and aircraft models in the ceremony.

Process of Giving Direct Benefits of Schemes to Farmers Started

Why in News

• On March 7, 2022, Director of Agriculture, Jharkhand Nisha Oraon informed that the Agriculture Department has started the process of giving direct benefits of the schemes to all the farmers of Jharkhand.

Key Points

• Under this, farmers of women self-help groups formed by FPOs and JSLPS formed in the state will be given direct benefits of departmental schemes, so that middlemen can be eliminated.
• All the eligible FPOs and women self-help groups formed by JSLPS will be listed by the Agriculture Department at the district level, who will be provided the benefits of departmental schemes in the form of package plans.
• The meaning of the package scheme is that the women farmers from the Directorate of Horticulture, who will be provided vegetable seeds, mulching or poly houses for flower farming, will be given the benefit of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, which is being run by the Directorate of Agriculture. In this, the amount of grant is 90 and 80 percent.
• Similarly, women farmers who will be provided with agricultural machinery, will also be provided seeds for vegetable cultivation. With such an effort, there will be an expected increase in the income of such FPOs and financially empowered women groups, as well as an increase in productivity will also be reflected.
• Special initiative is being taken by the department for the empowerment of women farmers. Under this mapping of women oriented FPOs and SHGs with the schemes of Directorate of Agriculture and Horticulture is being done. In the financial year 2022-23, they will be given handholding and training along with the benefits of schemes, so that they can become self-reliant.
