Painted Rock Shelter Found in Mahasamund

Recently a painted rock shelter site has been discovered in Mahadev plateau in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh.

The discovery of this rock shelter was done under the leadership of Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Dr. P.C. Paras .
Rock paintings of archaeological importance have been found in this rock shelter. In these rock paintings, geometric figures including dancing human groups, monkeys, sun and moon are made of red ocher colour.
This is the first painted rock shelter known so far under Mahasamund district. Based on the rock paintings available here, the antiquity of human civilization and culture in this area is possible till the Mesolithic period.
Important archaeological sites like Sirpur and Khallari already exist in Mahasamund district. Sirpur also has the distinction of being the capital of ancient Chhattisgarh.
Megalithic sites have been found from Bartiabhatha in the district. In this sequence, this painted rock shelter discovered can be considered as the oldest known site so far from the point of view of history and archeology of Mahasamund district.

On August 04, 2021, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the 'Uttarakhand Earthquake Alert' app to provide early warning of earthquakes in the state.

This is the country's first early warning mobile application, which can alert users before an earthquake. With this, Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to launch an earthquake alert app.
This app has been developed by Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.
Some of the main features of this app are as follows-
- This application uses Earthquake Early Warning (EEW), a real-time earthquake information system, which can detect the onset of an earthquake.
- This app will give early warning of earthquakes 30-40 seconds before the earthquake, for which about 64 sensors have been installed in the entire state.
- It is capable of warning of an earthquake of magnitude 5 or more on the Richter scale.
- The app can also help provide the location of people trapped inside a structure after an earthquake.
- It disseminates information about the occurrence of an earthquake as well as the likely time and intensity at the location of the earthquake to prevent any loss of life.
- It is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms and is available in two versions.
Uttarakhand is an earthquake prone state, so this app can make a significant contribution to the authorities to carry out rescue operations during earthquakes.

Recently, the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has given recognition to the water testing laboratory operating in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh.

After getting the recognition by NABL, now the common citizens of the district can get the water tested, which will improve accuracy in the water test results.
It is worth noting that this is the 10^th NABL accredited water testing laboratory of Chhattisgarh.
NABL is an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), of Government of India and registered under the 'Societies Registration Act, 1980'.
The Government of India has authorized NABL as the sole accreditation body of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.
