Greenfield Economic Corridor approved
Why In News?
Recently, the Union Ministry of Road and Transport has approved the Greenfield Economic Corridor to be built from Ghaziabad to Kanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Key Points
- This corridor is 380 km. long and will be ready by 2025. Once it is built, people from Ghaziabad, Hapur and large parts of western Uttar Pradesh will no longer need to travel on the Yamuna Expressway.
- This corridor will connect the Lucknow to Kanpur Expressway between Unnao and Kanpur, while connecting the existing Meerut Expressway in Ghaziabad and Hapur.
- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started work towards preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). This work will be completed by December 2023 and after that the project will be ready in 24 months.
- The project has been named Ghaziabad/Hapur-Kanpur/Unnao Greenfield Economic Corridor.
- NHAI officials say that the construction of Ganga Expressway from western Uttar Pradesh is also going to start, which will connect the expressway going to Lucknow in the middle, due to which a lot of traffic will go to the Ganga Expressway, so initially the four-lane between Ghaziabad-Kanpur. The same corridor is being built. Later it will be increased to eight lanes as the traffic increases.
- Significantly, the underpass, flyover and service road will be constructed on the lines of a six-lane greenfield corridor.
- With the construction of this corridor, the vehicular pressure on the roads of Ghaziabad and Noida will be reduced.
- It is noteworthy that the announcement of the construction of a new economic corridor from Hapur to Kanpur was made by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in September 2019.
