Freedom Fighter's Funeral After 109 Years

Why in News

On February 4, 2022, the ashes of freedom fighter Lagur Nagesia were cremated after 109 years at Samri in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh.

Key Points

• Lagur Nagesia of Kusmi block of Rajendrapur in Balrampur district, along with Bigud (Bigu Bania) and Thithir Oraon, killed many people working for the British in the year 1913.
• After this incident, Thithir Oraon was killed by the cavalry of the British Army and Bigur and Lagur were put to death in hot oil.
• Of these, the skeleton of Lagur Nagesia was named after the teaching of science students at the then Edward School (the present Multipurpose School) of Ambikapur, which was kept there till now.
• The story of freedom fighter Lagur-Bigur is still famous in Surguja region as Lagur farmer and Bigur Bania.

Chhattisgarh Film Policy 2021 has been published in the Chhattisgarh Gazette on February 4, 2022. Under the policy, provision of grants has been made in different categories.

• With the implementation of Chhattisgarh Film Policy, local people including thousands of artists, technicians and producer-directors associated with the film industry in the state will get its benefit.
• It is noteworthy that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, under the guidance of Culture Minister Amarjit Bhagat, a new film policy 2021 has been prepared in Chhattisgarh.
• Under this film policy, provision and incentives have been made for the production, filming of feature films, web series, TV serials and reality shows and documentary films. This will encourage private investment in the film sector.
• The main objective of implementing Chhattisgarh Film Policy 2021 is to make Chhattisgarh a film friendly state and to give national identity to the culture and tourism of the state through film industry in the state and to provide maximum employment opportunities for the local people here.
