DVC will Set up 2200 MW Solar Power Plant

Why In News? 

According to information received from the media on January 4, 2023, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in Jharkhand will install a 2200 MW capacity solar power plant in its command area. These will be installed in different areas of the command area. Its DPR has also been prepared. 

Key Points 

  • DVC sources said that a floating solar plant of 2,000 MW will be installed here. For this, the DPR of the two thousand MW power scheme has been prepared and sent to the central government .  
  • Floating solar power plants of 600 MW capacity will be set up at Maithan, Tilaiya and Panchet Dam. Apart from this, a 200 MW capacity plant will be set up in Konar Dam. At the same time, a 200 MW solar plant will be installed in the field. It also includes a roof top.  
  • The study is being conducted in the command areas of Koderma, Maithan and DVC for 200 MW. The DPR will also be prepared soon. In the first phase, a site has been selected at Koderma for the 10 MW plant.  
  • According to the information, DVC is working on the solar plant as well as the hydel plant. A study has been conducted to set up a hydel plant in Luguburu, a holy place of Sarna devotees in Giridih. Here the plan for a pump storage hydel plant of 1500 MW capacity is underway. As soon as its DPR is prepared, it will be sent for the approval of the state and central government. After that, this scheme can be included in the next budget.  
  • It is noteworthy that this is the first dam and hydroelectric power station built by Tilaiya Dam DVC which has been built on the Barakar River. This dam is 1200 feet long and 99 feet high.  
  • Maithan Dam is located on the banks of the Barakar River. It is about 48 km from the coal town of Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. located far away. This dam with an underground power station is unique throughout South-East Asia.  
  • Panchet Dam is built on Damodar river in Panchet area of Dhanbad district in Jharkhand. It was inaugurated in the year 1959. Panchet Dam is the fourth of the 4 multi-purpose dams, which falls in the first phase of Damodar Valley Corporation.
