Ghar Ghar Aushadhi Yojana

Why in News

  • On August 01, 2021, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched the 'Ghar-Ghar Aushadhi Yojana' and the 72nd Van Mahotsav under the 'Nirogi Rajasthan Campaign'.

Key Points

  • The Chief Minister launched the scheme by planting a medicinal plant of Giloy at his residence. Along with this, under the 72nd Van Mahotsav, the vehicle carrying Peepal and other plants was flagged off for planting in Bilaunchi village of Jaipur.
  • On this occasion, the Minister of State for Forest presented the first kit of medicinal plants to the Chief Minister. The CM also released posters, brochures and booklets prepared for wide publicity of 'Ghar-Ghar Aushadhi Yojana'.
  • Rajasthan is probably the first state, which has implemented such a unique scheme on a large scale to spread awareness about medicinal plants.
  • It is noteworthy that under the scheme, with a view to protecting the health of the people of the state and for the protection and promotion of medicinal plants, kits of 8 plants of Tulsi, Giloy, Kalmegh and Ashwagandha with medicinal properties will be provided free of cost to each family by the Forest Department.
  • It is worth mentioning that in order to make future generations aware of the importance and use of these medicinal plants to realize the resolve of healthy Rajasthan, it was announced to start 'Ghar Ghar Medicinal Scheme' in the budget of the year 2021-22.

'Prakritika' Terrace Garden

Why in News

  • Recently, the terrace garden 'Prakritika' was inaugurated at Vallabh Bhawan, Madhya Pradesh.

Key Point

  • Developed by: Madhya Pradesh Institute of Water and Land Management, Bhopal in an eco-friendly method.
  • Various medicinal, aromatic and forest species have been selected and planted for eco-friendly beautification.
  • It has been depicted by Mandana and line art to create the background of the cultural environment. Hanging plants have also been installed at various places to make the atmosphere of the terrace garden more beautiful.
  • WALMI institute has used the 'WALMI Early Forest Development Method'. In this method, the work of developing natural greenery and beautification on the concrete surface has been done by using the concept and technique of guaranteeing dense forest in one year.
  • This technique is completely organic, in which beds of one-meter depth have been prepared by mixing different types of organic materials, such as paddy straw, para, dung manure, Jeevamrut, Ghan Jeevamrut, Vermicompost etc. with soil.

National Youth Award

Why in News

  • Recently, Shubham Chauhan from Bhopal was selected for the 'Rashtriya Yuva Puraskar' 2018-19 by the Government of India for youth activities.

Key point

  • He will be awarded at a ceremony on the occasion of the International Youth Day, on August 12, 2021.
  • This award is given every year by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India for their outstanding activities for nation-building.
  • Shubham Chauhan led the team from Madhya Pradesh in the National Integration Camp organized by the Government of India in Jammu and Kashmir in March 2020, after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Similarly, Madhya Pradesh has partnered with Nagaland and Manipur under Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat Yojana to strengthen cultural relations between them.

Chief Minister Vatsalya Yojana

Why in News

  • On August 02, 2021, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami duly launched the 'Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana' for the destitute children during the Covid-19 period.

Key point

  • In a program organized at the Janta Darshan Hall located at the Chief Minister's residence, the Chief Minister transferred an assistance amount of Rs 3,000 to the bank accounts of the children identified in the scheme by DBT.
  • Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 3 thousand per month has been allowed to the children covered from July 01, 2021, till the age of 21 years. Along with this, arrangements for free ration, free education are also being made for them.
  • The DMs of the districts will protect the property of these children. Uttarakhand is the first state to introduce five percent horizontal reservation in jobs for orphans. The government will also focus on the skill development of these children.
  • MIS portal is being made for the operation of 'Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana', in which the details of all the children will be filled online by the districts.
  • Under this scheme, a total of 2347 boys/girls have been identified from birth to 21 years of age till August 01, 2021. A total of 1062 children have been benefited in the first phase on the occasion of the launch of the scheme.

Conservation and Promotion of Medicinal Plants

Why in News

  • Recently, the work being done in the direction of conservation, promotion and development of medicinal plants in Chhattisgarh has been appreciated by the international organization United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, (UNCCD).

Key Points

  • Under this, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Mohammad Akbar and Provincial Secretary of Traditional Vaidya Sangh of Chhattisgarh State Shri Nirmal Awasthi have been honored by the said organization UNCCD.
  • UNCCD appreciated the awareness campaign being run about medicinal plants in Chhattisgarh under the guidance of Mohammad Akbar and the efforts being made for the revival of the knowledge of medicinal plants and traditional medicine under the Home Herbal Garden scheme being run by Nirmal Awasthi.
  • Appreciating this, Mr. Rajeb Bulharout of UNCCD Secretariat honored him by issuing a certificate.
  • Provincial Treasurer of Traditional Vanaushadhi Trained Vaidya Sangh, Chhattisgarh, informed that public awareness campaign is being conducted under the Public Health Tradition, Promotion Campaign and Ghar Angana Herb-Bodi Bagiya Scheme of Chhattisgarh state by distributing medicinal plants free of cost every year.
  • In addition to seasonal diseases, life-giving herbal medicines, including Bramhi, Ashwagandha, Satavar, Tulsi, Kalmegh, Giloy, Adusa, Chirayata, Pathar Chur, Mandupparni, Bhuiavala, Bhringraj, Hadjod etc., are distributed by the traditional doctors of the state.
