Uttar Pradesh becomes first state to vaccinate 15 crore people
Why in News?
- Uttar Pradesh on June 1, 2022 became the first state in the country to vaccinate 15 crore people.
Key Points
- Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country where 15 crore people have been given both doses of the Covid vaccine.
- Uttar Pradesh, with a population of 19.95 crore (Census-2011), has so far provided more than 32.76 crore doses to the people of the state.
- In order to provide additional security cover to the people of the state, about 31.52 lakh booster doses have been given by the state government since January 10.
- So far, more than 2,45,92,596 vaccine doses have been given to children in the age group of 15-17 years and more than 1,02,11,117 vaccine doses have been given to children in the age group of 12-14 years .

Bihar to have caste census
Why in News?
- In an all-party meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on June 1, 2022, on the issue of caste census, it was unanimously decided that the castes and sub-castes of all religions will be counted in Bihar.
Key Points
- The Chief Minister said that the purpose of conducting caste-based enumeration is to take people forward so that no one in the state is neglected.
- In response to a question, the Chief Minister said the Central government was requested for a caste census at the national level, but the decision to do it at the state level has been taken after it was refused to be conducted at the national level.
- On August 23, 2021, a delegation led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met the Prime Minister and urged him to conduct a caste census in the country, and earlier also a resolution has been passed twice in 2019 and 2020 by the Bihar Assembly to conduct the caste census in the country.
- It may be mentioned that the caste census was last conducted in the year 1931, although the socio-economic caste census was conducted in the year 2011, its caste data was not released by the central government.

State level swimming competition inaugurated
Why in News?
- On June 1, 2022, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Lal chand Kataria and Minister of State for Sports Ashok Chandana inaugurated the State level Sub-Junior and Junior Boys and Girls Swimming Competition at Alankar College, Sirsi Road in Jaipur.
Key Points
- The competition will be held from June 1 to June 5, in which 325 players from 16 districts of the state are participating.
- Out of the 325 players who have participated in this five-day event, 45 swimmers are taking part in the sub-junior category, while 280 swimmers are taking part in the junior category.
- It is being organised under the aegis of Rajasthan Swimming Association, which is headed by Anil Vyas.

India's first bullet crusher machine installed at Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy
Why in News?
- India's first bullet crusher machine was recently installed at the Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy. The shell of the cartridge used in this machine is destroyed.
Key Points
- Using this machine, the used bullet will not be able to be reused. This system will not lead to misuse of cartridges.
- It may be recalled that more than 100 players in shotgun, pistol and rifle disciplines of shooting at the Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy are undergoing training from international coaches Mansher Singh, Jaspal Rana and Suma Shirur by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare.
- Apart from this, nutritionists, psychologists, sports science doctors, strength and conditioning trainers are also available for the players.
- Work on the 50m final shooting range at the International Level Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy is in progress. International level competitions require a separate final shooting range. On its completion, the Asia Cup and other international shooting competitions will be held

- On June 1, 2022, in order to extend the benefits of improved varieties of wheat, mustard and oats developed by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, to other states as well, the University promoted technical commercialization under public private partnership. Ltd. The MoU has been signed.
Key Points
- Wh 1270 varieties of wheat, RH 725 of mustard and OS 405 varieties of oats have been developed by the University.
- On behalf of the University, M/s Dev Agritech Pvt. Ltd. It has been granted a non-monopoly licence for a period of three years under which this seed company will be able to produce and market seeds of the above varieties of wheat, mustard and oats.
- The Rh 725 variety of mustard beans are longer than other varieties and have a higher number of grains and the amount of oil is also higher.
- The WH 1270 variety of wheat has been approved for cultivation in the North-South zone of the country last year. The average yield of this variety is 75.8 quintals per hectare, while the production capacity is 91.5 quintals per hectare. It has 12% protein content.
- The OS 405 variety of oats is suitable for the central zone of the country. Its green fodder yield is 51.3 quintals per hectare, while the production of grains is 16.7 quintals per hectare.

- Haryana has the highest unemployment rate of 24.6 per cent in the country, Rajasthan at 22.2 per cent, Jammu and Kashmir at 18.3 per cent, Tripura at f17.4 per cent, Delhi at 13.6 per cent, Goa at 13.4 per cent, Bihar at 13.3 per cent Jharkhand recorded 13.1 per cent, Himachal Pradesh 9.6 per cent, Telangana 9.4 per cent, Punjab 9.2 per cent, Assam 8.2 per cent and Sikkim 7.5 per cent.
- After the formation of the new government in Chhattisgarh three-and-a-half years ago, the government's focus was on schemes that balance the urban and rural economy and create new employment opportunities.

Inauguration of Dr. Nityananda Himalayan Research and Study Centre
Why in News?
- On June 1, 2022, Doon University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Surekha Dangwal informed that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was present at Doon University on June 2. Nityananda will inaugurate the building of Himalayan Research and Study Centre.
Key Points
- The centre has been constructed at a cost of Rs 22 crore in the name of renowned Himalayan geographer Nityananda.
- The Centre is envisaged to emerge as a centre of excellence in sustainable development of the Himalayan region and aims to integrate science and social sciences for evidence based decision making and teaching for sustainable development of the region.
- Apart from this, on June 2 , the Chief Minister will also inaugurate a two-day vocational advancement programme to be organised by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, which aims at Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It aims to enhance the skills and capabilities of women scientists and researchers of Uttarakhand.
