On death Due to Snake Bite, Family Members Will Get Rs 4 lakh

Why in News?

On March 31, 2022, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Disaster Management Minister Renu Devi announced in the assembly that if any person ever dies due to snakebite in the state, the state government will grant ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.

Key Points

  • It should be noted that till now there was a provision of ex-gratia grant on snakebite only in the flood period in Bihar.
  • In case of death of a person due to snakebite during floods, the Disaster Management Department, considering it as a natural calamity, is paid ex-gratia grant to the kin of the deceased as per the prescribed rate of subsidies from the State Disaster Response Fund.
  • The Deputy Chief Minister said that in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Disaster Management Department on March 7, 2022, in addition to the death due to snakebite during the floods, the death due to snakebite was included in the disaster of the local nature of the state, to the immediate family of the deceased. It was decided to pay the ex-gratia grant. This decision has come into effect from March 24, 2022 (date of notification).

Establishment of Stem Cell Therapy Based Bone Marrow Transplant and Pediatric Cancer Unit

Why in News?

On April 1, 2022, Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang informed that stem cell therapy based bone marrow transplant and pediatric cancer unit would be established in the state.

Key Points

  • Bone marrow transplant and pediatric cancer units will be established in four medical colleges of Madhya Pradesh namely Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Rewa.
  • A bone marrow transplant unit will be established in the state for the treatment of genetic diseases of children like sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia, thalassemia and cancers like leukemia, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
  • In the first phase, a 6 bedded bone marrow transplant unit and a 24 bedded pediatric cancer unit will be set up in Gandhi Medical College.
  • World class medical facilities will be made available through this unit. In this, self (autologous) stem cell grafting and other person's (allogeneic) bone marrow will be transplanted.
  • Due to genetic diseases like sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia and thalassemia in children, the infected bone marrow of children will be removed and a healthy bone marrow of another person will be transplanted.
  • For transplanting bone marrow of affected children, the primary donors are siblings of the children, who have a more than 25 percent chance of matching the bone marrow.
  • Autologous stem cell transplant will be done in patients suffering from cancers such as leukemia, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma by removing their own stem cells. The stem cells of the affected patient will be removed and cryo-preserved. Then an autologous transplant will be done.

Sikatiya Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme

Why in News?

Recently, in the meeting of the Council of Ministers held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, administrative approval has been given for the estimate of Rs 484.35 crore for the Sikatiya Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme for providing irrigation facilities in four blocks of Deoghar and Jamtara districts.

  • In the meeting of the cabinet, administrative approval was given for providing irrigation facilities through underground pipelines in the parts of Sarath, Karo, Vidyasagar and Jamtara blocks of Deoghar and Jamtara districts.
  • Under the Sikatiya Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme, cycle wise irrigation facilities will be provided in the irrigated area through a pipeline from the pump motor from Ajay Barrage Upstream located near Sikatiya village.
  • This scheme will be completed in three years, as a result of which 13,164 hectare area of 24 panchayats of the respective blocks will get a kharif irrigation facility.
  • Along with this, in case the requirement of water in the fields is limited due to excessive rainfall during any period, the water can be diverted and filled to the nearby reservoirs, so that water supply through ponds to the villagers for cattle and other works. can be done.

  • Recently, Science Park has been established in Government Higher Secondary School, Pauwara in Durg district and work of setting up outdoor-indoor Science Park in Government Higher Secondary School, Marra is in progress.
