Chief Minister Inaugurates Syed Modi India International Badminton Championship

Why In News?

On November 28, 2023, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Syed Modi India International Badminton Championship-2023 at the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy.

Key Points:

  • Organised by the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association (UPBA) under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (IBA), the prestigious tournament will run till December 3, 2023.
  • 2 lakh US dollars (about 1 crore 75 lakh rupees) will be at stake in this competition.
  • Around 250 shuttlers from 19 countries will fight for titles in men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
  • The tournament was started by the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association (UPBA) as the 'Syed Modi Memorial Badminton Tournament' in memory of Commonwealth Games champion Syed Modi in 1991.
  • From its opening until 2003, it remained a national level tournament. In 2004 it was organized as an international event for the first time.
  • The tournament was halted from 2005 to 2008 due to the political standoff between the UPBA and the Uttar Pradesh government, which ended with the transfer of the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy.
  • The tournament was introduced to the badminton circuit in 2009 as a BWF Grand Prix event. Since then the tournament is being held annually at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow, though in 2010 it was temporarily shifted to Hyderabad. In 2011, it was upgraded to the Grand Prix Gold event.
  • The Badminton World Federation included this tournament as a BWF World Tour Super 300 event in 2017, the competition of which started in 2018.

Haryana Decorated with Silver Medal for Excellent Performance in International Trade Fair

Why In News?

Haryana has been awarded silver medal in the Swachh Mandap (State) category for outstanding performance at the 42nd India International Trade Fair 2023 held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on November 27, 2023.

Key Points:

  • It may be noted that Haryana has received the award for the first time in the history of organizing the trade fair.
  • At the closing ceremony of the fair, Pradeep Singh Kharola, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Trade Promotion Organization, formed under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, presented the silver medal to Haryana. Anil Chaudhary, General Manager, Trade Fair Authority of Haryana received the award on behalf of Haryana.
  • A total of 51 stalls were set up in the pavilion built in about 600 square meters. While making proper use of the entire area, full attention was also paid to cleanliness along with properly displaying the goods manufactured in the state.
  • Apart from this, products prepared by women's self-help groups in different parts of the state, such as products made from amla, herbal products, basmati rice, handloom products, pickles, marmalade, shoes, meditation room in Faridabad explaining measures of mental peace, hafed and Vita stalls, synonymous with the progress of the cooperative movement, were attracting visitors.
  • The trade fair was held at Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan from November 14 to 27, 2023.

Governor released the book ‘Atulya Haryana’

Why In News

On November 29, 2023, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya released the book ‘Atulya Haryana’ written by Dr. Krishna Kumar at Haryana Raj Bhavan.

Key Points

  • Dr. Krishna Kumar, author of the book ‘Atulya Haryana’, is originally a resident of village Jhagadoli in Mahendragarh district.
  • Releasing the book, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya said that this book will prove to be a good source to know and understand about Haryana.
  • The book Atulya Haryana has been written on the culture, history, art and development of Haryana.
  • The author of the book, Dr. Krishna Kumar, is a journalist of electronic media and before this also three of his books have been published.
  • Dr. Krishna Kumar has received Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India for his work on the folk genres of Haryana and has also been honored by the Dalai Lama, the messenger of peace.

Chief Minister launched Bharat Jan Samvad Sankalp Yatra developed from Fatehpur Biloch village

Why In News

On November 30, 2023, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal launched the Vikas Bharat Jan Samvad Sankalp Yatra by flagging off the van from Fatehpur Billoch village in Faridabad district.

Key Points

  • The objective of this Yatra is to take the welfare schemes of the Central and State Government to every home and to ensure the upliftment of the person sitting in the last row of the society in the spirit of Antyodaya.
  • This yatra will go to every village of all the districts through LED vans and the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be heard during the yatra.
  • During the programs organized in the villages, citizens will also be administered an oath to contribute to the development of India by 2047 and become self-reliant.
  • Short films on the progress of the country and the state will also be shown through LED vans and performances will also be given by folk artists. Apart from this, promising players and individuals who have done excellent work or achieved special achievements will be honoured.
  • During the program, through 'Meri Kahani-Meri Jubani', people who have taken advantage of the schemes will tell how they have raised their standard of living by taking advantage of the schemes.

'Global School Award 2023'

Why In News?

Delhi Public School (DPS), Bokaro has been awarded the 'Global School Award 2023' in the category of providing innovation-based better educational environment and holistic development of students.

Key Points:

  • Anjani Bhushan, vice-principal of the school, received the award on behalf of the school during a global felicitation ceremony organized by AKS Education Awards in New Delhi.
  • Delegates from 70 countries participated in the event, where educational institutions, teachers and other stakeholders were felicitated in various categories. Among them, only DPS Bokaro from Jharkhand got the opportunity to get the Global School Award.
  • Its official announcement was made in a special assembly held at the vidyalaya on November 29. The Vice Principal congratulated Principal Dr. A.S. The award was presented to Gangwar.

18 products of Uttarakhand including Manduwa, Jhangora, red rice got GI tag

Why In News

On November 30, 2023, Vinay Kumar, Managing Director of Uttarakhand Organic Products Council, said that 18 products of Uttarakhand including coarse grains Manduwa, Jhangora, red rice have got Geographical Indication (GI tag). Including these, now 27 products of the state have received GI tag.

Key Points

  • After getting the GI tag, now no one will be able to copy these products nor will they be able to claim it as their own brand. This will prevent copying of products. Also, the products will get different identity at the global level.
  • It may be noted that to promote 'Vocal for Local', GI tag is provided to local products by the GI Registry Wing of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Through this, the latitude and longitude location of the production area, geographical and climatic characteristics of the product and the quality of the product are thoroughly tested.
  • For the first time, 18 products of Uttarakhand have got GI tag together. In a program organized at the Chief Sevak Sadan of the Chief Minister's residence on December 2, 2023, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Controller General of DPIIT, Prof. Unnat P. Pandit will give GI tag certificate to the products.
  • These products got GI tag: Berinag Tea, Manduwa, Jhangora, Gahat Dal, Red Rice, Black Bhatt, Malta, Amaranth (Ramdana), Lakhauri Chilli of Almora, Toor Dal, Buransh Juice, Nettle (Kandali) Nettle Fiber, Nainital Candle, Rangwali Pichhoda, Litchi of Ramnagar, Peach of Nainital, Chamoli mask, Uttarakhand wood art.
  • These products have already got GI tag: Tejpatta, Basmati Rice, Bhotiya Dan, Aipan Kala, Chiura Oil, Munsiyari White Rajma, Ringal Craft, Tamra and Thulma.
