Archaeological remains of Hazaribagh
Why in News?
Recently, the Archaeological Department of India has decided to study the special script written in Buddhist remains and sculptures found 72 years ago at Daihar and Sohra in Hazaribagh of Jharkhand.
Key Points
- For this, script expert Dr. Arpita Ranjan has been sent by the Archaeological Department of India, so that the period of the idols can be traced.
- It is worth mentioning that in 1950, the then chieftain Jagarnath Singh and other villagers had received many idols from Daihar and Sohra. Many attempts were made to study them, but they were not successful.
- This area is full of archaeological relics related to Buddhism. For example, the image from Daihar, worshiped by the villagers as Kamala Mata, is the Buddhist goddess Marichi. Also the idol found from Sohra, worshiped by the villagers as Samokhar Mata, is Tara, the goddess of Buddhism. At the same time, Jharkhand's largest Buddhist stupa has been identified in Manggarh.
- In view of its religious importance, it has been included in the Buddhist circuit.
