Bihar Budget 2022-23

Why in News

  • On February 28, 2022, Finance Minister of Bihar Tarkishore Prasad presented the budget for the year 2022-23.

Key Points

  • Bihar Budget 2022-23 is based on six points – health, education, investment in industry, agriculture and allied sectors, infrastructure (rural and urban) and welfare of different sections.
  • Following are the important facts related to the budget 2022-23-
    • Total Expenditure - Rs 2,37,691,19 crore
      • Revenue Expenditure - Rs 1,91,9566.7 crore
      • Capital Expenditure - Rs 45,734.52 crore
    • Total receipts - Rs 2,37,891.94 crore
    • Fiscal Deficit – Rs 25,885.10 crore (3.47 per cent of GSDP)
  • The budget estimate of fiscal deficit is within the prescribed limit of FRBM Act (for 2022-33 4.0 per cent).
  • The economic growth rate of the state for the year 2022-23 is estimated at 9.7 percent.
  • In the budget, a budget provision of Rs 500 crore has been made for the financial year 2022-23 for the Saat Nischay Part-2 scheme of Atmanirbhar Bihar under good governance.

Nayab Hunar Haat

Why in News

  • On February 28, 2022, Rajasthan's Industries and Commerce Minister Shakuntala Rawat inaugurated the 'Nayab Hunar Haat' exhibition at Urban Haat (in front of Jal Mahal) in Jaipur. The exhibition will be held till March 14.

Key Points

  • This exhibition is being organized under the joint aegis of Enterprise Promotion Institute and Rajasthan Minorities Finance and Development Corporation Limited.
  • About 100 more artisans and weavers are participating in the 'Nayab Hunar Haat' exhibition. The stalls have been set up by the artisans, which mainly includes lac bangles, kundan meenakari, painting, artificial jewellery, blue pottery, marble and metal handicraft, wooden handicraft, terracotta, hand block printing etc.
  • Apart from this, stalls of various institutions- Weavers' Union, Rajasthan Handloom Development Corporation, Khadi Board and Craft Council of Weavers and Autosmen etc. have also been set up.
  • Arrangements have also been made for live demos on blue pottery, weaving cloth on looms, making utensils with chalk, lac bangles etc. at the exhibition venue. Various cultural programs will be organized during the program at the venue.
  • The handcrafted art of Rajasthan is world famous, there is some art present in every region. Such events provide market support to the artisans to sell the products.
    • There is a lot of potential for the development of artisans, handlooms and various arts in Rajasthan, the state government is also going to create a Directorate of Handloom Handicrafts. Many efforts are being made for the upliftment of arts and craftsmen, that is why the export of handicrafts from Rajasthan has also increased.

Haryana's 'Reshma' : Largest Milk Producing Buffalo in India

Why in News

  • The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has given a certificate 'Reshma buffalo' of Murrah breed (from Budha Kheda village in Kaithal, Haryana) for producing 33.8 liters milk. With this Reshma has become the largest milk producing buffalo in the whole of India.

Key Points

  • When Reshma gave birth to the child for the first time, she produced 19-20 liters of milk. The second time she produced 30 liters of milk. When Reshma became a mother for the third time, she set a new record with 33.8 liters of milk.
  • The team of many doctors saw Reshma milking 7 times, after which she became the highest milking buffalo in India. With the certificate of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Reshma has come in the number one category of improved variety. Its milk fat quality is 9.31 out of 10.
  • Reshma has also won first prize in a cattle fair organized by Dairy Farming Association with 31.213 liters of milk. Apart from this, Reshma has won many more awards.
  • It is noteworthy that Naresh and Rajesh Beniwal, the owner of Murrah breed buffalo 'Sultan', that is famous in the whole country, are also the owners of Reshma. Sultan had been the national winner in the 2013 National Animal Beauty Competition in Jhajjar, Karnal and Hisar.
  • The Sultan used to give 30 thousand semen doses in a year, which were sold for lakhs of rupees. Sultan died in September 2021.

Recognition for DNB Course

Why in News

  • On February 28, 2022, National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi, district hospitals at Raipur, Kanker and Surajpur in Chhattisgarh have been recognized for the two-year post MBBS diploma course DNB.

Key Points

  • Due to the presence of specialist doctors and quality treatment in district hospitals, there is a steady increase in the number of seats for DNB courses in the state.
  • It is noteworthy that recently, Durg district hospital was also recognized by the National Board of Examinations for DNB courses for two seats each in ENT (nose, ear, throat) and pediatrics.
  • With this, Durg District Hospital became the first institute in Chhattisgarh to get recognition for DNB course.
  • All these hospitals have been given permission for this course for five years.

Short Film 'Patal-Ti'

Why in News

  • Recently, the short film 'Patal-Ti' focussed on the Bhotia tribe of Uttarakhand has been selected for screening at the 39th International Short Film Festival to be held in Busan city of South Korea.

Key Points

  • To be screened at the Busan Film Festival, the film is produced-directed by Santosh Rawat of Rudraprayag district.
  • The film has been ranked 14th out of a total of 40 films selected for the festival. Four of the best of these films to be screened at the Busan Film Festival will be sent for various world-class awards, including an Oscar.
  • The film is based on the story of a teenager from the Bhotia tribe, who measures the distance between the ghost and the physical in order to fulfill the last wish of his dying grandfather.
