Introduction
The UPPCS exam, also referred to as the 'Uttar Pradesh Combined State/Upper Subordinate Exam (General Selection/Special Selection)', is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). UPPSC conducts the PCS exam for the recruitment of candidates to work with the UP government for different posts. The UPPSC administers recruitment exams for a variety of positions, including Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Assistant Regional Transport Officer and others.
The examination is conducted in three stages, namely the Prelims, Mains, and Interview.The following section provides a detailed overview of the UPPCS Exam Pattern and Selection Process.

- Time Duration: Each paper will have 3 hours allotted for solving the questions.
- Maximum Marks: 200 marks will be allotted for each General Studies question paper.
- Language: A candidate may answer question papers in English or Hindi or Urdu provided that the language paper as a whole must be answered in any of the above languages unless it is otherwise indicated in the question paper.
- Nature: The marks obtained in the Mains Exam form the basis for the Interview.
- Examination Timings
- Morning Session: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
- Afternoon Session: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Note: A candidate is required to obtain the minimum marks in the General Hindi paper, which will be determined by the Government or the Commission, as applicable.
Interview Process (Viva-voce)
- According to the new PCS exam format, the interview, worth 100 marks, evaluates candidates' general knowledge, sense of morality, ability to communicate their strengths, intelligence, and overall aptitude.
- The merit list is prepared on the basis of the aggregate of marks obtained in the main examination and interview.
- The list of finally selected candidates is released usually one week after the completion of the entire interview.
Note:
- The candidates selected for appointment are also required to pass the medical tests as stipulated in the rules.
- In some cases, the process of direct recruitment is also adopted by the Commission. .
