Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPCS) - Pattern

The Chhattisgarh State Service Examination is conducted by the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC). This competitive examination conducted by the commission consists of three levels sequentially: 

  • Preliminary Examination: Objective Nature 
  • Main Examination: Descriptive Nature 
  • Interview

The detailed pattern of each stage of the examination is mentioned below. 

Preliminary Examination 

  • There will be 2 compulsory papers of 2 hours duration each. Both the question papers will have objective-type multiple choice questions.  
    • There will be four choices of answers for each question out of which one is to be selected. There will be negative marking for wrong answers.

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 
    • In each question paper, essential qualifying marks for unreserved categories will be 33%, and 23% for reserved categories and handicapped candidates. 
    • The Second Question Paper - Aptitude Test shall be of qualifying nature. Marks obtained in this question paper shall not be added while preparing the merit list for shortlisting candidates for the Main Examination. 
    • Candidates shall be selected for the Main Examination on the basis of the merit list of the First Question Paper - General Studies.

  • Nature of the Main Examination: Question papers for the Main Examination will be of Conventional nature i.e., Short/Medium/Long answers Type 
  • Language for Answering Questions: All the question papers except the first – "Language" may be answered in Hindi or English chosen by the candidates. However, a candidate will not be permitted to write part of the paper in Hindi and part of it in English. 

Paper-wise Overview

    • There will be two sections in this paper:

      • Chhattisgarh State Issues 
    • The candidates will be given four options in each section and will have to write on two options from each section. The problem-solution (reason, present status including data, and solution) must be included.
