Two Teachers from Jharkhand honoured with National Teacher’s Award

Why In News?

On September 5, 2023, President Draupadi Murmu honored two teachers from Jharkhand with the National Teacher’s Award 2023 at a ceremony organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on the occasion of Teachers' Day.

  • It is noteworthy that President Draupadi Murmu honored a total of 75 selected teachers from across the country with the National Teacher’s Award for the year 2023 in a ceremony organized at Vigyan Bhawan.
  • In this teacher's felicitation ceremony, all the awarded teachers were given 50 thousand rupees in cash, citation, shawl, quince.
  • This year, two teachers from Jharkhand were selected for the National Teacher’s Award, who were honored by the President. The honored teachers include Mohd Ijazul Haq, Principal In-charge of Middle School Dewankhana Chatra and Manoranjan Pathak, Computer Science teacher of Sainik School Tilaiya Koderma.
  • It is known that the headmaster in charge of middle school Diwankhana, Mohd. Ijazul Haq was given this honor for teaching children through sports, always working for the betterment of students through social work, connecting children from underprivileged classes with education and teaching children based on art. In the year 2022, he also received the Best Teacher District Award.
  • National Teacher’s Day:
    • Celebrated on 5th September every year since 1962, the day aims to honor the contribution of teachers including school teachers, researchers and professors in India.
    • The then President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, suggested celebrating his birthday as Teacher's Day in response to the students' request for the celebration.
  • National Teacher’s Award:
    • The National Teachers Awards aims to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers of the country and to honor those teachers who through their commitment have not only improved the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students.
    • These awards are presented by the President of India on 5th September every year.
    • The award consists of a silver medal, a certificate and a cash amount of Rs 50,000.
    • This year, in addition to the teachers selected by the School Education and Literacy Department, teachers selected by the Higher Education Department and Skill Development Ministry have also been included in the scope of the award.
