Three-Day Vasantotsav begins in Uttarakhand

Why In News?

On March 3, 2023, Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmeet Singh (Retd) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the three-day Vasantotsav at the Raj Bhavan complex in Dehradun.

• Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmeet Singh (Retd.) launched toll free farmers helpline number 18003135685 on behalf of Horticulture Department to solve the problems of farmers.
• He released a book titled 'Dry Floral Commercial' handbook of the Horticulture Department and a short film on Nakshatra Vatika. At the same time, the Postal Department released the special postal cover of Timru selected for this year and inaugurated the postage stamp exhibition.
• Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Vasantotsav gives the message of connecting with nature and encourages people to protect the environment. Through this festival, the products of Uttarakhand agriculture and horticulture will be promoted.
• In the cultural evening organized at Raj Bhavan, school children along with culture department presented mesmerizing programs and dances. Cultural artists presented folk dances like Jhumelo, Chhapeli, Chanchari, Tandi, Harul etc.
• 698 participants in cut flower (Traditional) competition, 191 participants in cut flower (non-traditional) category, 22 in potted plant category (private nursery), 42 in loose flower category, 17 in potted plant (non-floral) category, 13 in cactus and seclant category, 27 in hanging pot category, 22 in spot on photography, 17 in lawn category, 8 participants participated in fresh petal rangoli and 946 participants in painting competition.
• In the cultural evening organized at Raj Bhavan, school children along with culture department presented mesmerizing programs and dances. Cultural artists presented folk dances like Jhumelo, Chhapeli, Chanchari, Tandi, Harul etc.
• During the Vasantotsav organized at Raj Bhavan from March 3 to 5, many types of competitions will also be organized along with the flower exhibition.
